Giant Ant Colony, Beneath the Desecrated Temple of Osorus, The Underground City
Lost City of Khemsa, Forgotten Kingdom of Verulia, Great Eastern Desert, the World of Hyboria
Day Eight. Dawn?, 21st day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia

The invaders of the anthill press their advantage! Suddenly, in a blur of silver and an eruption of flames, they halve their enemy's number! But what remains of the systematic, relentless plague does not falter in their steadfast defense of the colony!

To the north, Mako, Cruloc and Xorzen shift to the other battlefront as Amethu crouches beneath the billowing black smoke to watch the blazing barricade, and their rear flank. He readies another oil flask when suddenly, out of the blazing holocaust lunges the gigantic soldier ant being burned alive! Its inhuman will is indomitable!

Engulfed by flames, it attacks nonetheless! Razor sharp mandibles savage the sorcerer-priest of Uthoth (-3hp damage) and hold him so the long grotesque stinger can impale him and fill his bloodstream with a deadly toxin! (-4hp more damage. Please Save vs Poison or take another 5hp damage!)

On the southern front, a line of mangled insect corpses grows around the raiders' feet! Garrin, Kiri, Loche and Zahra toil to add to it! Evading their enemies' ravening jaws, Loche gashes a crawling attacker with his dagger! And yet another colossal insect falls like ripe grain beneath Zahra's merciless sword!

Kiri Khutan's enchanted trident fails to pierce a thickly plated exoskeleton but, at the spellsword's command, the hovering torch borne aloft by the spirit of his dead ancestor moves southeastward, illuminating this great subterranean hollow.

As Cruloc binds his wounds (+1hp), Mako sees this space is an immense food store for the colony. The vast low chamber is filled with large, organized piles of fungi, lichens and other plant matter, ravaged mummified corpses of men, and dead insects and worms all grown to gigantic proportions by the warping chaos of Zargoth's very presence! The far wall holds another round tunnel, leading out to the east.

Zahra

I don't see any more bugs on the map, but I'm going to assume the worst.

Zahra flicks the insect's oddly-colored blood off her blade and turns to attack the next.

Loche

After landing a sucessful strike, Loche presses the attack! Unfortunately, his blade skitters ineffectually off the ant's armor.

The barbarian follows Xorxen's lead. Advancing, he hefts his spear and looses it at the fiery monstrosity!

Even while being consumed alive in the raging conflagration, the gigantic burning ant will not relent! With a ruthless will, it fells his attacker, Amethu, filling his veins with a poison like liquid fire! (5 hp damage) Still aflame, the colossal arthropod looms over the fallen sorcerer-priest, ravenous jaws flexing in anticipation, when suddenly a javelin blossoms from its hideous multi-faceted eye!

The unerring missile had flown from Xorzen's hand, and all his lean strength was behind it! The fiery soldier ant is instantly killed! Its flaming wreck, and the roiling ebon smoke pouring from its ruined frame, block the northern channel from the single-minded reinforcements of the nest, for now. Near the flaming barricade, Amethu lays insensate and bleeding.

To the southeast, Garrin's sword hums through the air, shears clean through the armor-plated bulk of his rapacious enemy, and rings on the stony ground in a shower of blue sparks!

At the side of the son of Atlantis, there is a gleam of steel as titanic Kiri drives his trident down, smiting the last crawling monster dead in an ichor mist!

This battle is over - the invaders of the nest, victorious. But they know that all around them, beyond their sight, unrelenting forces mobilize against them, hungry for their deaths!

Zahra
For a minute, Zahra can't see that the battle is won. She looks from side to side, red eyes searching for the next enemy. When she realizes they've won- at least temporarily- she sheathes her blade and bends forward at the waist, gasping for air.

"Grandfather, if you please, light the eastern tunnel so we may see what lies beyond! We must find our friend the crazed priest," says Kiri breathing hard from exertion.

When he sees Amethu is down, he rummages through his pack and pulls out another of the vials, reading the inscription again with the aid of his enchanted visor. "The inscription is a prayer to Osorus, bringer of light and warmth. I don't know if it is specifically a healing aid like the one that revived me - that one was dedicated to the god of healing. Perhaps it's worth a try?" he says to the group.

Cruloc

"I know not of this Osorus, but Crom cannot see us down here. Even if he could, prayer would be useless."

Cruloc rushes forth, drags Amethu away from the burning husk of the monstrous ant, and sets about binding the Verulian's grave wounds.

Xorxen aids Cruloc in getting their friend pulled away from the fires.

"We cant stay here. That fire wont keep them back for very long."

The wiry monk retrieves his javelin and stores it back in its quiver before moving closer to the southern chamber again.

Cruloc

"Xorxen! Fetch my spear while I tend to Amethu if you would. It landed somewhere over there." Cruloc momentarily takes a finger out of the Verulian's hemorrhaging wound to gesture toward the vanquished ant, and a gout of crimson sprays the side of his stern countenance.

He puts his finger back in.

Day Eight. Dawn?, 21st day of the month of Yuluk, 1279th year of the Age of Aquilonia

Cruloc and Xorzen drag Amethu away from the flaming wreck of gigantic ant carcasses that hold back the inexorable tide of unrelenting insect warriors.

The adventurers quickly regroup and recover. Zahra's amazonian bloodlust fades. By Mako's light, Cruloc the barbarian treats Amethu's wounds (+1hp) and the masked albino priest awakens!

Kiri commands his ancestor's spirit to carry the torch eastward to the farthest wall. Garrin and Loche follow the otherworldly, hovering brand, searching the vast food store of the ant colony for Tjoruy. Of the ramshackle prophet of the underground city, there is no sign. But both can see the eastern tunnel wends southward into darkness. And among the dozen huge piles of edible matter, the Pict thief finds a cylindrical tube at the bottom of one mound, and the son of Atlantis discovers a glimmer of silver within another.

Zahra
Zahra hurries to join the searchers looking for the half-mad priest. As she walks, she wipes down her blade, cleaning the oddly-colored fluids from it.
