Session 1: Red Larch
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Roderick's interest is piqued. Finally, a good deed in need of doing!

Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Delgrot indicates he'll take a drink and something to eat while waiting for the story to be told fully to those seated and ready to listen. "I'll take an ale and some mutton if you have any."

Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Jane
"Let's sit," Kay says, joining a few of the longer, rectangular tables together for a larger seating area. Samdarag is more than ready to take a load off and takes a seat at one end of the table. "Sit," he says, welcoming the rest of you to join him. You do.
"Tell 'em 'bout Jane!" George cries from deeper in the inn. "You'll have to forgive the boy," Samdarag and Kay say at the same time, their words overlapping. The merchant nods to the innkeeper, signaling for her to continue. "Jane, a young woman who had a room here, is missing. She and George are an item." Kay states.
In the background, Arryn efforts to control the inconsolable lad, with Rona still latched to his arm. "Arryn and Rona are Jane's parents," Kay continues, indicating the older man and clingy woman working to console the upset young man with some limited success.
Kay continues: "Apparently, Jane retired to her room last night and hasn't been seen since. We immediately summoned Arryn and Rosa, and George. Arryn, who's still trying to calm George, believes Jane may have been summoned by Helmaer, an old wizard up north, and had to leave in a hurry. George insists that Jane would not have left without saying goodbye or even leaving a note or message."
"There is no sign of struggle in her room." she adds.
"Tell them that her door was found unlocked!" George says loudly, but in a more controlled manner after having been calmed down enough to eavesdrop upon the conversation. "And I have her bag of spell components, which I found where she keeps them under her bed," he adds, holding a small pouch above his head. "She would never have left without them if she left on her own," George adds.
Kay and Samdarag, apparently without a firm opinion one way or the other, hold any responses they may have. Arryn, Rona, and George pull up yet another table and join the current assembly.
A moment later, Ghileeda returns carrying a large tray loaded with five, one-gallon pitchers of a white, swirling liquor. "Banshee's Breath," she says in an exotic voice, just assuming the presented beverage would inspire questions. "It's made from a wild berry," she starts. "It's sweet, and has an effect similar to mint gum in that it always feels cold." she explains. "It's a popular drink here, any my personal favorite," Kay chimes in. "You're welcome to something else if you're feeling less adventurous."
Tonight, for those at this table... drinks on are the house."
Once the drinks have been poured and some general pleasantries have been enjoyed, Arryn finally brings the conversation back to the matter at hand. "The bottom line is, our daughter is missing. Whether she left voluntarily --" he says, holding up a gloved hand to preemptively control any potential outburst from George. "Or is the victim of foul play, we don't know."

About Jane
While Arryn appeared to begin to respond, it is George that rises from his seat and thanks Roderick, and Unna, and anyone else agreeing to assist in locating his love interest. "She is becoming quite the user of magic since being Helmaer's apprentice," the young man says in response to Unna's question. "Oh," he proclaims, then begins fishing through a small pouch on his belt until he produces a small piece of paper, which he proceeds to unfold before turning it around and holding it for everyone to see. "This is her. She drew this herself," he says proudly of the self-portrait: "She's twenty years old -- like me -- and has long black hair and beautiful green eyes," he says proudly. "She usually wears a blue cloak with silver clasps at the neck, oh, and the small silver signet ring I gave her that had a "J" engraved on the inside of the band."

Delgrot replies "Now wait a minute aint Helmaer the fella we're takin some supplies to fer you Samdarag? If we're already headin that way I dun see no reason why we can't help look fer Jane. I'm in can't say no ta findin someones lost love." he says with a smile.

Alara
Alara takes a glass of Banshee's Breath and gives it a try, finding it quite pleasent.
As the situation unfolds, she looks more and more concerned for the fate of Jane
"I can understand your concern, you must be beside yourself with worry. Perhaps we could take a look at her room, we might notice something that was missed. I think Delgrot has a good idea about visiting Helmaer, he might have useful information or perhaps even magic we can use to help find her"

Nexus sits and partakes of the free fluids. Raising his eyebrows and coughing in that wheezy way people do when something is too strong for them but they are trying to pretend it’s delicious the illusionist nods amiably.
Has she ever done something like this before? Does she have any enemies, or admirers? Has anyone else here abouts vanished like this before? I agree that a wizard who leaves behind their spell components is one that hasn’t left voluntarily.

Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Jaroo listens politely but gets a little lost with all of the quick banter about Jane and who she may know or the conditions she may have left. The room we are in is nice. He thinks, That George guy - isn't the romantic partner always a suspect in manners like these?
Re: Session 1: Red Larch
Q&A
The table takes in the questions about Helmaer, and, aside from knowing he's a retired wizard, the only one who really knows anything about him is Samdarag, who's already shared about as much as he knows about it. He's retired, but still practices occasionally. He will sometimes entertain the local children. He almost never travels, and no one, not even George, or Jane's parents Arryn and Rona, have met him. None provide any reason to suspect the old wizard. George begins to get riled when Nexus asks if Jane had done anything like this before, or if she had any enemies or admirers. "Of course not!" he snaps. "Except for me, of course." Jaroo wonders privately whether George might be considered a suspect? And, no, Kay assures the group that no one has disappeared like this from her inn before.
The group is allowed to search her room, which is sparsely furnished with little more than a bed, desk and chair, a footlocker, and a few small chests. The footlocker and chests have apparently already been searched, and lie open when the group arrives. Four sconces are mounted, one to each wall, with unlit torches resting in them during the day. An unlit lantern rests on the floor next to the footlocker. Jane has added a few potted plants to decorate the place a bit. On the desk are random piles of paper and parchment; most are black and white self-portraits drawn by Jane, similar to the one previously shared by George.
When George learns that the group had previously been tasked with making a delivery to Helmaer, he strongly encourages them to complete this delivery without interruption -- other than to stop and ask anyone they meet along the way if the person had seen Jane, of course.
The group learns that the one-story kitchen annex at the back of the inn is currently out of commission due to a kitchen fire, which was caused by the poorly drawing chimneys. "We got the drinks," Kay starts. "But you're going to want to head to the tavern across the road called the 'Helm' to get yourselves a proper meal," which she strongly recommends, especially if the group is considering the long journey to Westbridge.
"And, don't forget, Samdarag has agreed to cover your accommodations if you want to spend the night here in the Larch and set out tomorrow."
---
We'll pause here in case you have any other questions. You can also decide on your plans. Two of you are slightly wounded, which a night of rest would heal... and would also allow everyone to recover spells, etc... Or, you can set out now (or after a short meal).
Your call.

I think setting off in the morning is a wise idea. A full compliment of magic would be wise if we are to tackle kidnappers and dark fey baby stealers and all that jazz.
