Drudsa the dabbler prepares Read Magic twice in the morning, casting one as he starts to study his newly acquired tome after breakfast.

He will try to identify which spells are contained in the book, then will choose the one he will start studying. If none of the party members needs his assistance in the course of the day he will remain at the inn studying.

Meagnor the Elf has got Charm Person memorized after waking up.

He will talk to Quinthos as soon as he can: "My friend, our mission before going to the village may be quite dangerous. We need to enter some caves infested with humanoids and maybe undead. Will you join us or wait outside? Do you have weaponry? I have a spare scale mail, a sword and a short bow if you need. We would feel more comfortable if you travel with us using some protection."

Meagnor will do some shopping before visiting Father Varis to talk about the emissaries.
He will buy another quiver, 8 silver arrows, 2 weeks worth of dried rations and another sack (600cn) (total 73gp).

Marodin the Cleric will, at first light, seek out Black Kate of the City Guard and see if she will agree to show him some fighting tactics with the war-hammer. If she's available, he will spend the day training with her.

At the end of the day, he will seek out the dwarves he commissioned at the festival and retrieve his masterwork war-hammer. After he picks that up, he'll stop at the Church and donate both his old war-hammer and the one they got from Elwyn's men. He will also tithe 230 gp to the Church.
TK, are you ok with the idea of carrying two shields? I'd like to keep my old shield as well as the new one I bought at the festival, in case one gets shattered. If this is not allowed, I'll donate my old shield to the Church as well.

Saul will try to find someone to train him with his new bow, preferably, or with the dagger if such a person isn't around.

Lanny gives Saul the names of the three finalists in the archery competition in case he wants to seek out any of them as possible trainers.
From yesterday: "Lanny makes inquiries as to who the remaining three contestants are. The slope-shouldered man is Grundar, a local trapper and mountain man. The girl is Ermina Span, the daughter of a local merchant and trader. The third individual is a relative unknown, a guard who had signed on with the caravan before leaving Darokin. His name is reported to be Sam."

Saul thanks Lanny. Where would his empty head lead him if people didn't remind him of everyday details like these.

He tries to find the merchant so he talk to Ermina Span. If that fails he's going after Grundar, then Sam. Usually this order would be dictated by the fact there is a girl involved but this time he chose her because she should be easier to find. The fact that she's a girl is just a welcomed bonus.

Both Drudsa and Tratiln spend their day in study. Tratiln finds the cantrips in his spellbook to be incomprehensible, base human magic, though Drudsa is able to identify them.
It sounds like both Drudsa and Tratiln want to spend their time studying. Let me know which spells you wish to tackle first.
It takes half the amount of time as a first level spell to learn a cantrip. So, Drudsa has a base 25% chance to learn a cantrip after just four hours of study.
Tratiln's spellbook:
0-level spells (5):1d28=19, 1d28=27, 1d28=3, 1d28=5, 1d28=11. Catfall, Clean, Gallop, Mend and Weathertell
1st-level spells (2): Leap and Rainbow Attack
Drudsa's spellbook:
0-level spells (5):1d28=28, 1d28=20, 1d28=16, 1d28=15, 1d28=10. Firefinger, Knot, Know Direction, Mute, Werelight.
1st level (3):1st level spells (10 and 14 indicate new spells): (1d14=13, 1d14=1, 1d14=7) Analyse, Magic Missile and Ventriloquism.
2nd level (3): Aargh, I forgot to copy the roll link. It was 1, 6 and 10. Continual Light, Invisibility and Mirror Image.
3rd level (1):Third level spell: (1d13=12). Protection from Normal Missiles.

Marodin finds that Black Kate is enjoying the festival. She is tall and wiry, with brownish skin and an infectous smile. She would be stunningly beautiful were it not for the fact that most of her nose is missing. "Bastard bit it off, back when I was in fighting in the ring", she says, upon noticing Marodin's look, "These are the first days I've had off in months, priest. Tell you what, though. I'll teach you what you want, when you return. It'll cost you 250 gold, at that."

---------

Marodin retrieves his warhammer without a hitch. On his way back he stops by the temple to donate some old equipment and tithe some of his treasure. Father Varis catches him before he leaves. "You'd asked about taking on an apprentice? I've got two candidates for you, if you want to come see." He leads Marodin into a back room off the church, where a number of novices are polishing silver candlesticks. "Rugard, Semele, could you come with us, please?"

Rugard is a cheerful teenage boy with curly red hair and freckles. Semele looks tough and capable, the way the middle child in a large family often looks, accustomed to fighting for food and attention. Both stare at Marodin hungrily. It is obvious that stories of the cleric and his deeds have spread to those in the church, as well as the fairgrounds.
Black Kate reaction roll: (2d6=9). Refer to page 145 for training costs. Black Kate will add 25% to the base chance. Based on the errands he is running, he can practice with his weapon by himself for six hours today. Let me know if you want to do that.
Two henchman candidates: Both are 1st level clerics. All ability scores start at 9, modified by 1 roll of 1d12-6. Note that a negate roll doesn't modify the base score down. Str, Int, Wis, Dex, Con and Cha.
Rugard:1d12-6=1, 1d12-6=1, 1d12-6=5, 1d12-6=0, 1d12-6=4, 1d12-6=3 10, 10, 14, 9, 13, 12. HP: 1d6+1=2
Semele:1d12-6=1, 1d12-6=-2, 1d12-6=4, 1d12-6=4, 1d12-6=5, 1d12-6=-4. 10, 9, 13, 13, 14, 9. HP:1d6+1=2

Go ahead and make one an offer, if you would like. Refer to the House Rules section for my recommended minimum offerings.

Quinthos the Elf

"Thank you friend Meagnor, but I have my bow and a sharp knife. If it is alright with you I shall wait outside with the mounts. While I am sure you and your friends are more than capable, I cannot afford to take risks when my village is in such danger."

--------

The guard at the gaol attached to the townhall is clearly uncomfortable with the idea of letting Meagnor in to see the prisoner. "I don't know . . . " he says, "the Baron left specific instructions not to let anyone see the criminals. But . . . seeing as you're one of the ones who brought him in . . . I'll let you back, but he's to stay in the cell and I'll be with you, so don't try any funny business."

Saul finds Ermina back at the fair, pitching hoops at bottlenecks and doing a fair job at it. When asked if she will teach him to use his short bow she blushes. Saul notices she has a dimple in one of her cheeks when she smiles. "I'll gladly show you a thing or two, but be aware I've never taught anyone before." She looks around. "We can go to the archery field now, if you'd like. I don't think it's being used."
Reaction roll: (2d6=9) Saul will not gain any numerical advantage studying with her for such a short while, but it will count as 8 hours of study, allowing him a chance to learn it. Saul chance (30%): (1d100=80)

Lanny rises early in the morning, preparing Read Magic to study his scroll and also studying the overland terrain map that Tratiln gave him. He greets Quinthos at the inn.

"Good morning my friend! It looks like we will be travelling across the mountains to get to your village. How is the weather and terrain through those parts? By the way, Quinthos, is your village in Darokin? Or perhaps beyond that, in the elven kingdom of Alfheim?"

Lanny will spend the morning purchasing some mountaineering and camping gear, including a bedroll and tent, and other mundane equipment in preparation for the long trip.

Afterwards, if he is not needed by the party, he will wander around the festival area in search of Myraal (hopefully less drunk today) and will make a visit to the Guild Library if necessary. He seeks some literature about the Grand Duchy and its people, as well as information about his magic arrows and the history of the Traladaran people.
I checked our mountaineering/camping gear - it looks like we have a grappling hook, a couple of hammers, some spikes, and 6 coils of rope between us, so I think we are ok in that department.
Quinthos the Elf

"I'm not sure, actually. Not Alfheim, for sure. We are, I believe, on the border between Darokin and Karameikos. Tell the truth, it is an ideal situation, for we pay taxes to neither!"

--------

Lanny finds Myraal at one of the ale tents in the morning, enjoying a flagon of Wulfwolde Brown along with half a roast chicken. "Aha!", the portly mage roars, upon Lanny's approach, "one of the young elves who found Aleena's body!" Lanny makes his requests and the mage nods. "I certainly do have some of the information you seek, both about the Duchy and potentially this lost tribe of yours. If I may have an arrow to study for a few days, I can be sure to give you a more exacting report. From what you say, however, it sounds like the Gregori clan that used to live hereabouts. I'm not planning on going anywhere today, but if you would like to stop by the tower sometime next week I can lt you see the books I have on the Duchy, and provide some more detailed information about the Gregoris."
Myraal has a 25% (1-25) chance of being sober: 1d100=7. Huh. Look at that.

Tratiln looks over the spellbook and while the cantrips confuse him is intrigued by the Rainbow Attack intruiging and will spend the day trying to learn that spell.
@tk - how does this work - will the spell still be in the spellbook once I'm done or does it disapear like a scroll?

The spell remains in the spellbook, unlike a scroll. Conversely, one cannot cast a spell directly from a spellbook.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad wakes up and decides to have Light memorized for the day.

He will spend his day waiting with Quinthos, and grooming the mounts, speaking to them as he does so.

To his own mount, he says, "I cannot yet understand the language of horses, unlike some of my brethren. One day, however, I will hear you clearly, and at that time will ask for your name." The horse's powerful build and champagne coloring reminds him of the elvish horses of lore, capable of carrying their riders great distances without tiring. "Until your true voice is known to me, I will call you Elf Wing, for it is as if you were one the horses of legend reborn!"
Does Quinthos have a horse of his own? If not, then Bregalad will offer to purchase one for him.

Before entering, Meagnor explains himself for the guard, without much detail: "Thank you very much. I feel comfortable knowing that the city guard takes their jobs so seriously. Please, understand that tricking this man into thinking that we are his friends was important to get them here and I want to find out if he will still collaborate with us. Father Varis would confirm this."

In the cell, Meagnor will talk to the prisoner: "So, how are you being treated here?"

The ranger laughs at Quinthos's clever remark. "Actually, Quinthos, my inquiries about the terrain were simply to ensure that we are properly equipped for the journey. If you think we will require extra gear for crossing the mountains, or if there are scarce sources of water along the route, please let us know before we leave town."

Lanny thanks Myraal for the information and presents him with one of the magical arrows.

"We shall be gone for a few days but look forward to seeing your Guild Library when we return. We have some spellcasters in our group... Must one be a guild member to enter the library and peruse the books? And is it possible to borrow or buy items from the library?"

Lanny returns to the inn and to his room. He spends time in quiet meditation, directing his internal magical energies towards his eyes, then opens his eyes to read and study his new scroll, focusing first on the Shield spell. However, Lanny's mind is restless with plans and strategies for dealing with Elwyn and Bargle, which prevents him from focusing on the arcane letters and symbols of the spell, so he gives up and goes over to talk to Drudsa.

"Pardon me, Drudsa, but this spell is giving me a headache. I wonder if you might like to scribe it for me into your own spellbook. I purchased all the special inks and supplies needed to do it, but I just can't seem to focus on this right now. This Shield spell, as far as I can tell, would be of greatest benefit to you anyway, seeing as how you are unarmored. I know you have other spells you are studying, but I will extend this offer to you nonetheless."
Based on the description of the Shield spell in the Dark Dungeons rulebook, I think it would not do Lanny much good at all, but it could be of immediate benefit to Drudsa, so that is why Lanny is making the offer. Lanny is still interested in learning the spell eventually, but he could always learn it later from Drudsa's spellbook. Also, since Drudsa picked up Invisibility in his new spellbook (so that Lanny could potentially learn it later from Drudsa's spellbook), Lanny will just keep the Invisibility spell on the scroll... just in case of an emergency.

Quinthos does not have a mount, and thanks Bregelad profusely for the gift. "Now we shall all be able to move faster than an elf could walk, and thus will reach my village much more quickly!"

He answers Lanny's question as well. "The most direct route is past where we encountered one another; there is a narrow trail that runs much of the way, through mountain passes and dense forest. It would be possible, I believe, to travel north along your Duke's road for a time, then turning west. There is a trail of sorts that way too, I believe, but it is much longer than the straight path I took."

The Cleric of Leptar

The prisoner's dour expression lightens when he sees Meagnor enter the corridor of cells. With a furtive glance at the guard standing impassively by he motions the elf forward. "Thank the Sly One you're hear! Those fellows you handed me over to are the town guards, you fool! Are you going to help me escape?"
