Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Korin will tie the other end of the rope line to a sturdy tree and help hold the rope using his sturdy dwarven strength.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Ox, the tallest member of the group, takes his first tentative steps out in the river, secured by the rope held by his friends. His initially gained foothold is successful; oddly enough the river doesn't seem as deep as its steely blue colour might have originally suggested. However, the force of the flowing water is fairly strong and he will have to watch each step carefully if going further.
Distance covered: 33%. Continue across ? If so, roll d100 again.
(FYI Pyro is AFK for 7-10 days so I will watch over Norbold in the meantime)

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Korin gives Ox more slack in the rope as he moves.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
As Ox bravely continues, reaching the middle of the stream, he loses his concentration for a second! His right boot slips off a smooth slimy stone - and he plummets down on his knees, suddenly finding himself kneeling up to his chest in water. Apart from the surreal feeling of being surrounded by a silent, steely slow moving mass of water, he's OK (although everything he carries below armpit level is totally soaked, such as the tinderbox, his spell book, ink & quill, dry rations....)
Ox is now two thirds across. Continue or return ? In any case: roll d100.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
From the north shore, Norbold lets out a sigh of relief when seeing Ox raise his hefty frame out of the water. Ox stands up, confidently and forcefully, water running off him, droplets glittering in the morning light. He remains standing, staring boldly ahead, eyes fixed on some point in the unknown distance.
Norbold shouts to him, somewhat agitatedly: "Nearly there now Ox, is it safe to continue ? See any crocodiles ? Need more rope ?"
Ox will, if he wants to, be able to continue onward, turn back, change direction or remain standing right out where he is in the dark, slow-moving water.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Ox continues to move forward.
Baxtaw Let us move back to Shortbread. We should attempt to set a trap for it or build a fire in front of opening. Wait for the others to return to battle it. I will not survive a battle with that thing.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Korin wonders just how deep the water is for someone of his stature...

Phoenix holds his breath as he hold the line. Hoping that the tall adventurer makes the crossing he is surprised they have chosen somewhere so deep and treacherous to cross. Hoping the rope will aid the others cross the little gnome chews his lip in anticipation.

Norbold, still concerned about Ox' safety, tries to make sense of his reply: "Whazzat ? Your shortbread ? Did it get soaked ? Uh - what trap - are you trapped ? We can't light a fire until we're safely across!"
Ox roll another d100 for the last wading distance.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Ox, now seriously weighed down by his wet gear, struggles the last few steps.....and collapses on the south river bank, the rope still tied around his waist. He is safely across! The soft sand is delightful to the touch, almost paradisical, not what you would expect in such clammy oppressive surroundings.
He has arrived more or less exactly in the middle of the beach. In the rock/mud wall, there are two openings to the left, and two to the right. He does not detect any movement...

Ox will search for the nearest sturdy tree to secure the rope to.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
The foliage hanging over the wall with the openings doesn't provide many strong branches - it's more like soft, leafy stuff. To find secure branches, trunks etc Ox will have to look either to the left of the leftmost opening or to the right of the rightmost opening. Unless he has some iron spikes or similar items to nail straight into the mound wall.
Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Ox will look closely at the river to what which area safest for the rest of the party.

Re: Chapter 03: Minn's Mound
Korin thinks about the situation "Maybe we shoulda floated Ox an the rope down on a log so he coulda secured the rope to somethin sturdy."
