I have to admit, I'm a little surprised by this. It took less than 3.5-hours to fill six slots. On a weekend, no less.

It has to be the edition. It felt like I had to pull teeth to get players for my Pathfinder game. It literally took days, if not a week, to get the four players I have in it.

Small sample size, but apparently: BX > Pathfinder

some games never get off the ground. :)

well, yeah. Oops, dang it Rule 3!!!

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

No, I'd just say B/X <> Pathfinder.

I'll definitely agree with that.

Definitely!

I'm enjoying the Pathfinder game so far. It's a lot of work, trying to manage all the rolls, but it's been fun (for me, at least).

They are very different games, with different focuses, limitations, and benefits. Unless the player is adaptable, you're going to attract very different sorts of players for each game.

Plus, I'd guess that almost everyone here knows B/X or something close. Pathfinder is a different game. I know I probably wouldn't be able to jump into a Pathfinder game without learning a new system. So there's a larger pool of potential players for a B/X game than for Pathfinder.

You will either be the sixth party member (where I'm going to cap it) or first on the waiting list. I sent a PM to Ed (GreyWolfVT) because I'm not positive if his post was a "Yes, I'm interested" or merely a comment.

If he's in, he's the sixth. If not, you are. Either way, I appreciate your interest. I'm guessing, with as deadly as the Basic game can be, the waitlist will be used, so be ready. ;)

I'd be happy to have you.

Depending upon whether Ed is in or not, you're first or second on the waitlist. Be ready, I may throw a heavily wounded ghoul at the party... you know what they're capable of. ;)

We really going 3d6 in order. Man we use to build some crazy PCs in the OD&D games I've played in.
That'll decide what everyone plays methinks - then again maybe not.
Looking forward to this Dave!

Yep. :D Honestly, when I think about Basic D&D, that is the first thing that comes to mind. I do plan to give each player a pool of three bonus points, though, that you can spend however you'd like (all three can be added to a single stat, or one point can be added to three different stats). The only restriction is no ability can be raised over 18 using these bonus points. Players may also be able to adjust their stats (spend two to add one), but the rules will need to be followed there (e.g. only raising prime requisite, not lowering charisma, etc...).

Me, too! I haven't played Basic D&D in a long time. It'll be fun.

I assume it will be an honest roll method? Manual rolls; dice roller Chargen rolls not accepted?

If we're going to go old school, we should all start off on the right foot.

The great thing I've learned about OD&D is that your stats don't have to dictate your class. Widsom doesn't give bonus cleric spells, intelligence doesn't make magic users any better at using magic, dextrous thieves aren't any better at thieving than clumsy ones, etc. The only benefit to a high prime attribute AFAIK is the XP bonus. You can play a stupid magic user, a foolish cleric, or a clumsy thief if you want. That's rather aweseome.

We're not actually starting the character generation process yet, but this is true. Once the game forum has been created, I'll start posting the house rules I'm working on, which will include all the details on generating your ability scores. At a high level, it will basically be using the following two macros, but there are other steps to consider, so please sit tight for a bit longer.

STR: [3d6], INT: [3d6], WIS: [3d6]
DEX: [3d6], CON: [3d6], CHA: [3d6]

I'm as excited as anyone, but since I'm not even sure what I'm going to run yet, it will be a while before we're ready to actually ready to start playing.
