Stronghold: All things related to Designing and Building

#1 Post by Johnny Champion »

This is the place for all questions and thoughts related DIRECTLY to a stronghold.

This applies to Mage Towers and Battle Cleric Citadels as well as primary Castle.

EDIT: I have some information that gives some directions for building a stronghold. It is pretty good and I am willing to pass along.

Here is the most current link to the Scholl Valley Area: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1BkE ... authuser=0

Tip #1: Site

Some strongholds guard lonely mountain
passes many days’ travel from the nearest
city. Other strongholds have settlements
grow up around them, the communities
thriving under the protection the stronghold
provides.

Regardless of location, your stronghold
must have a settlement it relies on for any
goods it can’t make itself—everything
from necessities such as food to luxuries
such as platinum candlestick holders.
Other smaller or larger settlements may be
near your stronghold, but the inhabitants
of your stronghold travel to this primary
settlement to hire new staff members and
purchase needed supplies.

For your stronghold, identify which settlement
serves as its primary link to civilization.
But choose wisely because you will need availability of
materials and labor.

If you build your stronghold far away from
sources of labor and materials, your stronghold
costs more. In your case, real estate
expense is NOT a major factor in area of selection.
You must balance these factors when selecting your
stronghold site.

The first obvious question would seem to be: Why are we paying for real estate when we have been granted a fiefdom??????
Who exactly would be paying the guy who gave us the fiefdom??????
So apparently this is a total grift!!!!

I bestow upon you the honor of a fiefdom in Detroit and that'll cost you one huge flawless diamond. Have a nice day. : )

DM: My mistake...i rewrote after realizing that I (Margrave of Tradonne) gave you the 30 sq mile plot.

He's just asking about the location.... since ya know, it's been over a month and we apparently haven't decided on a location to settle.

I've decided on 3 different locations, but every time I consider a location I find out it's in the ninth circle of hell!!!

I like the land in the Texamore Valley just south of Lake Belaney. You have plenty of fertile land, a lake north and south and forests east and west. You have the town of Belaney nearby, as well as Fairfield and Stockton a short river-ride away. Plus Faelwen is intrigued by the islands in Lake Belaney for her Mage Tower.

DM: The party can design and chose a preferred site at any time. Obviously, you are not there currently, but an overall design concept is worthwhile to prepare.
