Mass Chaos
Round 12

The tumultuous battle continues to rage on as more and more of the snow demons fall to their deaths. Trotter looks for a winged demon to slay and as it turns out, he doesn't need to wait long. One of the creatures lands right in front of the one legged hill giant so the tiny ranger shoves his sword through its guts. The blow is so unimaginably powerful that the sword continues on through the back of the creature and then proceeds to puncture the hill giants thick neck hide. Both creatures flop over dead as the smiling Trotter withdraws his bloody sword.

Halo and the girls do about the same amount of damage on their side of the brown, trampled down gardens. Both magical lions get scratched a little but they manage to take down another demon while the paladin exterminates more evil from the world, killing the last giant easily with a double blow from the sunsword!

Xano misses her target but Blodget is right there to skewer the monster from behind. It drops over dead as more fly in to take its place. Both of the thieves are attacked again, causing a few more minor wounds.

Wyntar feels the irritating tingling of magic course through him but, he is just able to fend it off. He pulls out his old faithful and fires off four more magical finger bolts. Two missiles each shoot out at an unsuspecting pair of the marauding demons, killing one and wounding another. Just then Mira's fog appears in a thick bank, five feet off the ground. The halflings seem fine with it but, Wyntar and Xano must pull their heads out of the thick mass and squat down to avoid being stuck in it. It is now nearly impossible to track the rest of oncoming enemy.

Still very much trying to kill you, some of the crazed snow demons fly straight into the thick cloud mass, slowing them down considerably. The manticore and remaining ba'atun continue to make their way back towards the action and will arrive shortly. The demons leaders seem to be figuring out that they can still get under the cloud mass and attack on foot. Mira hollers at Halo, trying to communicate her idea to him, mostly because he is the only one that might be able to hear her.

Morgi decides that now would be a good time for him to bring on the bolt. He looks down to the mountains far below and picks a safe spot to target. He can't get too close to the castle for fear of hitting his party so, he flies towards the oncoming monsters a little. He times the bolt out perfectly to get as many of the enemy in the blasts range as possible. The lightning bolt rips from the clouds and crashes towards the ground, killing 5 more of the snow demons in the process. The ridiculous odds are still not in the party's favor but the sheer number of enemy is slowly diminishing.

Trotter's grin nearly splits his face as he moves under the fog to the other hill giant, practically salivating at the chance to take it down!

Sword of Sharpness to hit [1d20+4] = 10+4 = 14, dmg v l [1d8+15] = 2+15 = 17

There aren't any more hill giants alive.
Halo will try and gesture to the others to head for the interior of the castle, though by the sounds of it the wall of fire is blocking their way so he is unsure how Mira thinks they will be able to do so.

He will call the girls and retreat, setting about slaying any snow demons that get in his or the girls way.

Halo's possible attack

Sunblade [1d20+7] = 13+7 = 20 : [2d4+10] = 2+10 = 12 : [2d8+10] = 14+10 = 24

I didn't realize it was messed up when I posted it.

Wyntar considers is his next action with much haste. He thought he saw Halo gesture something toward the group...if they could only communicate with each other! Wyntar begins wildly chanting, while waving his arms and shooting his hands out toward the wall of fire. Dispel Magic

Blodget, halfling thief:

The foolish young hobbit was stunned that the great and mighty heroes' battle plan has resulted in the complete annihilation of all the beings they were attempting to save.

Blocked by the roaring wall of flames, partially blinded by the mists above him, deafened by the ear wax, the nigh-invisible, Elven Cloaked hobbit could do nothing but attack any foes visible beneath the hovering mists!

Backstab if possible:
Blodget Shortsword: [1d20+2] = 3+2 = 5, Damage: S/M: [1d6+2] = 6+2 = 8, Damage: L: [1d8+2] = 8+2 = 10

Is the Ring of Regeneration factored into the damage tally? Thanks.

Having seen the lightning and recoiled at the clap of thunder that seemed to roll across the sky, Mira understands Morgi has unleashed his most powerful magic against the Snow Demons, and thus must spend precious time mustering another such strike. Knowing all others have protected their ears from the Demons' constant screaming, she still decides to take a desperate gamble. Popping the stopper from her scroll case, she trembles as she finally is forced to bring the sacred scroll into use.
Placing it on the floor, with the case and stopper used as anchors, she reads.

Whispering Wind, target: Morgi.

Flame wall here, fly under fog. She will repeat the message, and speak slowly.

Mass Chaos
Round 13

Once the party is able to kill all of the demons that were stuck in Mira's thick fog bank, it becomes a rather useful tool in defending the rooftop. The winged demons are at a huge disadvantage trying to move in under the fog and still fight with you. They are easy enough to cut down when fighting them one on one, and they are now beginning to bunch up on the far north end of the roof where they can get under the area that the fog didn't reach.

The halflings aren't affected by the 5 foot ceiling in the least, finding this battlefield downright cozy. Wyntar knows that the fight must be brought to the fleeing cloud giant so he uses his magic to successfully dispel the wall of flames that covered the huge arched doorway. Mira tries to use a scroll to deliver a message to the druid high above that she can't hear and can no longer see. Remembering that he is also surrounded by a force that does not allow magic to penetrate it, she has no idea if it worked at all.

Then, just like that, the thick cozy fog instantly disappears, making most of the party easily visible again to the last of the advancing enemy. The three huge manticore continue lumbering towards you as you suddenly notice the white fur of the attacking snow demons is covered in the blood of your now dead allies.

Blodget hangs his head a bit as he sees the very last of the aarakocra warriors plummeting from the sky off in the distance. He takes his aggression out on an advancing ba'atun, nearly disemboweling it from behind. The dead and dried up brown gardens are beginning to run red with the blood of all the dead monsters. Halo gestures for the group to head for the massive set of spiral steps that lead down into the gargantuan cloud castle.

Wyntar looks to the sky to see the Manticores coming for them. They must get down into the depths of the castle without being immediately followed. He jumps around waving his arms, trying to get his comrades' attention. He points everyone towards the steps as he begins casting a spell to block their retreat. Wall of Fire

Mira replaces her sacred scroll and also hurries inside, tho trying not to get stepped on by her comrades. Invisibility has its drawbacks. The fact that her fog bank suddenly disappeared is troubling, and she grips her scrollcase fiercely, ready to once again use its power if needs be. She tends to hang toward the rear of the party. That her Wind Spirit friends have perished in battle is something to be mourned later.

Halo will lead the way into the castle and the spiral stairs once he sees the flame wall disappear. He will usher everyone with and call the girls to him as he makes a retreat.

Once everyone is within the castle he will try and sense where the strongest concentration of evil is.

Blodget, halfling thief:

The foolish young hobbit makes sure his hood is up and gladly follows the suggestions of Halo and Xano, frantically scampering away from the charging manticores and into the safety of the... evil Cloud Giant's lair???

If they make it inside alive, he whispers with a quavering voice, "M-m-mind your steps, everyone, if you please! There's no telling what nasty tricks await us here!"
Blodget squeezes to the front and quietly searches for traps ahead of them.

The Ebb and Flow of Mass Chaos
Round 14

With the help of Wyntar, Halo is finally able to get everyone's attention. He visually directs the group to retreat towards the now open stairway. Xano, Blodget, and Trotter all disengage the battle and turn to run to the stairs. They are each attacked from behind as they run away, but Xano is the only one who is mildly scratched in the process. 4 dam

Halo, the girls, Mira, and Wyntar meet at the absolutely massive doorway and wait for the others to join them. Wyntar has a little surprise in store for the perusing snow demons that just destroyed his friends. He begins mumbling and points his powerful staff down at the gardens. Just as soon as his three friends get past him, he lights up the sky with an enormous wall of fire. He angles the wall slightly so it covers as much of the stairway opening as possible. The flames appear just as the demons swoop in for another attack. Four more of them are burned to death as they attempt to follow you through the fire wall. Their charred, burning bodies land on the massive stairs and the air begins to fill with the stench of their burning rubbery bat-like wings. The flames basically seal the entire doorway, preventing the rest of the pursuing enemy from getting to you.

As you start down the stairs, your minds are somewhat blown by the utter enormity of this castle. This tower is absolutely gargantuan and the spiral stairs are far too huge for a man sized creature to descend. You see that there is another much smaller set of stairs that run down one side of the wall. These are presumably used by any normal sized guests or possibly the servants of the giants.

After Blodget checks and finds no traps on the usable stairs, Halo leads the way, searching his mind for the presence of evil.

He finds it.

Just as the group is about to continue the search for the cloud giant, he welcomes them into his home. 5 tiny bolts of black energy form in mid air far below on the stairway. They silently shoot up the steps, heading straight for the paladin. All five missiles hit him directly in his pretty face, causing him great pain and anguish. 16 dam It is as if the bolts were targeted right at that very spot and hit unerringly. Wyntar is somewhat familiar with this deadly magic, though his bolts are a lighter color.

Xano gets a quick glimpse of the now visible cloud giant as it turns and runs further down the massive steps. The burnt faced paladin can still feel the evil presence moving away from the group. After what seems like an endless descent, you reach the bottom and see a massive 40 foot doorway that must lead into a room. There is no visible door that you can see, just a vapor-like mist that is filling the opening. It looks similar to the strange cloud material that makes up the walls, floors, and ceilings of this massive place, but it does not look solid to the touch.

Morgi does not see the cloud giant. He is still flying 160 feet above the castle, but he does notice that the three manticore are now targeting him instead.

Pausing once he sees the smoky floor Halo calls upon his holy powers and lays hands upon his injured face. (14hps healed).

"I do not trust this floor," the little paladin says warily, leaping off and using his boots to levitate to the ceiling, pulling himself along the roof of the chamber, making his way along the chamber."Cover me would you guys?" he asks as he begins his ascent.

Smokey floor?

The floor is no different here than anywhere else you have seen.
