On The Beach Again
Waterday, 10th of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Sunny, Buggy
Wes the druid is about to set off down the beach to retrieve parts of Pterry's skeleton so he can attempt to do some natural magical research in hopes of coming up with a new spell for himself.
He has asked his elven friend Galanthas to accompany him, hoping to find Jaxsen to see if he would like to go along as well.

Just doing a bit of house cleaning here.

Returning from the Treehouse, once again regretting his consumption of Randall's concoctions, Wes uses the last of his magic to raise the levels in the water barrels again. Then he goes off to his hut for a well-deserved rest. During the night, he dreams of soaring over the tree-tops as a great lizard-bird, snatching monkeys from the tallest branches, plucking birds from the sky, and swooping down over the ocean to pluck fish from the waters. He awakes before dawn, still regretting his consumption of Randall's concoction.
He completes his prayers as the sun rises and steps outside, intent on returning to the remains of Pterry to salvage some bones. With the new day, and his magic returned, he is able to heal both himself and Galanthas, once his elven friend arrives.
Wes:
Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 5
Galanthas:
Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 8
Wes:
Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 6
With that done, Wes look around to see if Marge and her ladies are making a trip to the river today. He'd also heard a rumor that Jaxsen the monk may be accompanying the water-carrier party. He looks to see if this is true.

Marge spots Wes in the morning and approaches the kind half-elf.
"I see you've been at it with the water barrels again, yes? You are gonna put some of us out of a job here, friend!" She says this with great admiration in her tone.
"I guess we wont need to fetch water again today, huh? That's good! I have my girls working on a net for Liam and his bees. It would be nice to get that finished, finally."
"And where are you off to so early in the day, my good man?"

Wes
"Good morning Marge! Wes replies. "Yes, I've been doing my best to spread the bounty of Obad Hai as much as I can. You know, when I first came to this island I thought it was in search of adventure, but I've realized Obad Hai brought me here to help the folk of Beachtown survive, prosper and learn to live with the land."
"Galanthas and I are returning to the bones of the bird-lizard we killed yesterday. Obad Hai has told me of a new form of magic I can use if i can bring back one of his bones to make a tool from. We shouldn't be gone too long I hope. Good luck with your work today."

Jax, having finished his early morning meditations and exercises, comes walking through town, literally looking for something to do. Seeing Wes and Galanthas talking to Marge, he approaches the trio. When a break in the conversation opens, he'll speak up. "Good morning, Marge. Sorry I've been gone a while. Will you be needing help carrying water for the hive today? Bralm looks poorly on those who aren't working!" He finishes with a grin.

Galanthas seems excited about what the new day might bring. He dons his armour and sword and then thanks Wes for healing him. The night of rest was also of help.
He greets Marge with some exaggerated courtesy and just adds to what Wes says: "Yes, it seems there's lots to do here. Another day of adventuring before us. Have a nice day Marge!"

Marge seems as happy as a lark hearing all of the kind words and the aggressive desire to help out around town. She thanks all three of you sincerely before going off to do more chores. She looks in the barrels that are still quite full and tells Jaxsen he is off the hook for the trip today.
"You three take it easy out there! Even if you are just going up the beach a spell. You never know what you might run into. We need to keep the good folks like you around here as long as possible!"
"Oh ya.....and Wes! You might want to go see Mr. Nehru about the carving on that tree of yours. He seemed pretty mad about it yesterday."

Wes
"So it seems dear Marge," Wes replies."But the life of Beachtown has improved since Obad Hai began watching over us. I'm sure Mr Nehru will see that once I've explained it to him."
Wes turns to Galanthas and Jaxsen. He proposes that they wait a few more minutes to see if any latecomers want to join them in their short trip. The druid also asks them if they have any suggestion about how they should travel.

"No problem. I can wait. As for suggestions... If we're going to get Pterry's bones, is guess we get walk on the forest rim." He turns to Jaxsen, extending his hand: "By the way, I'm Galanthas the Wise and hail from the Dim Forest. Been here for like five days. Pleased to meet you."

The trio readies to leave on their few hour walk up the beach. Wes is willing to wait for a while, but he doesn’t see anyone else who looks eager to join them.
Getting better at spotting the tree dwelling phanaton now, the druid and the elf see a few single creatures high in the branches along the first portion of their journey up the beach trail, but none of them attempt to garner attention.
As the group approaches the dead carcass of Pterry again, they notice the scene on the beach here has changed slightly. The huge mass of leathery wings and ripped open chest cavity is pulled up a little closer to the tree line now. It appears that something was trying to pull it into the jungle or possibly into the shade of the overhanging trees for a more comfortable dining experience.
It still looks mostly intact, but you can already see the undulating cloud of flies and bugs around it from many feet away. You don’t spot any monsters or animals currently feeding on the thing. The smell is not pleasant.

Jaxsen asks Wes, "Is there any particular manner in which the bone you seek needs to be extracted from the remains? The Queen's Children are feasting quite aggressively and I have noticed that their... appetites ... do not bother me as much as some others. If it is something I could do, I would be happy to do so."

Wes
Wes shakes his head.
"No. The larger the bone the better, but I have no other special requirements about it. However, I think I should take the bone myself, to retain the connection to The Shalm.
He scans the area around the carcass again for any further signs of movement, or life. He also looks at the sand for any tracks that might indicate the type of creature that dragged it up here.
"Why is it here? A pack of animals, like the coyotes that roam along here, would eat it where they found it. Another large lizard would probably do the same. Why is it moved up here?"
"On our first trip into the jungle here, a few weeks ago," says Wes,
"we were ambushed by giant man-eating apes. I'm wondering if it's a similar creature here. Something smart enough to want to eat in the shade. And smart enough to set an ambush"
Wes looks at Jaxsen again.
"Thank you for offering your assistance. If you want to scout the area, I can conceal you from the sight of many kinds of animals with The Shalm's magic".

Jaxsen Reiter
I'm sorry about Jax not responding to Galanthas' greeting. I missed it. Jaxsen would surely have shaken the man's hand and introduced himself as well.
Jax responds to Wes' inquiry. "I imagine that whatever was dragging the carcass to the trees is planning to use the rest of it. Bags, pouches and clothes from the hide and wing skin. Jewelry from the teeth. Tools from the smaller bones, maybe even musical instruments. My bet is the tree people. I saw this thing once, from a distance, while we were carrying water. I am impressed with your hive work bringing it down. "
The Monk continues, "Yes, please! I was turned Invisible to scout the maze. It is an amazing ability! I was able to accomplish a lot more that way."

Wes
"Hmmm. That's a very interesting thought. I hadn't really thought about the phanaton being so advanced" muses Wes. He waves off Jaxsens' praise. "We weren't really trying to kill him, but he kept attacking and got a bit too close to Galanthas and the baby. The power of Obad Hai held him and Galanthas finished him off. I think the phanaton would have if he didn't though."
"It's unfortunate. The creature was a great hunter and this area was part of his territory. He probably kept lots of other hunters and scavengers out. I wonder what will take over now he's gone? And will it be as easy to hide from?"
Once Jaxsen is ready, Wes casts his magical incantation.

Jax verifies the position of all his gear and snugs it down. He then looks at Wes and says, "Ready." When the casting is done, Jaxsen adds, "Is this right? I can still see myself."
I'll save the posts needed to explain.
"That is incredible," he says, his eyes wide. "Specific invisibility.... So I don't have to wonder exactly where I'm about to put my foot. OK, first things first. Let me approach the carcass and see what kind of tracks there are. I'm no Ranger, but small, fuzzy humanoid feet would almost certainly be Monkoons."
Jax then begins to approach the carcass, staying to the hardest packed bits of beach, so as not to leave tracks of his own.

Jaxsen agrees with Wes making him invisible to any animals. Once the deed is done, the monk stares at his arms for a moment, not sure if he has vanished from sight or not. Once the druid reassures him, the brave young human goes off alone to check out the carcass.
Just as expected, the sand around the area of the dead animal is covered with tiny, furry, footprints. Jaxsen being no ranger, assumes that these were made by several of the tree dwelling phanaton, though they are clearly wiped away under the area where the beast was dragged. The carcass appears to have been pulled about 10 feet or so closer to the trees from where it fell, though it seems to be a bit more bunched up and not laying as flat as it once was anymore.
The brave follower of Bralm walks around the entire carcass, gently swooshing through the cloud of flying insects as he draws near to it. The stench it gives off is rather hard to breath, which isn't getting any better due to the hot sun overhead. The monk spots no immediate danger anywhere around the dead lizard.
