Poag's Mines of Khunmar with Labyrinth Lord! [Open]

I'm back, somewhat hearty and hale from an unfortunate series of health problems. Now that I'm where my health allows me to participate in RPGs I'd like to offer the US community a chance to play an old fashioned megadungeon! Yes, that's right...a megadungeon!

I will be using Stefan Poag's Mines of Khunmar as a base resource for the dungeon with changes and additions as I see fit. I'm looking for 4-6 characters and the characters will start at 1st level with max HP. Advancement will depend on reaching various milestones throughout the game, not on treasure or monsters killed. While not exactly sandbox, the location will be in either the Greyhawk or Thyatis setting, a decision to be determined later (or perhaps from player input, it's up in the air at this point).

I will be using LL Basic rules. I'm a fan of S&W but I think LL is more popular here on Unseen Servant. I'm going to go what I think will give me more players. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The game will have house rules. Mucho house rules, or maybe not.

Death is almost certain, so let no player get too...attached to their characters. Players are to have a backup character in case of an untimely demise during the game. As this is a PbF format, a megadungeon can take forever to run and I am expecting players to come and go over the course of the campaign. The game will continue on as players join and leave.

Fortune favors the bold, my friends. Who has the guts, the courage, the overreaching sense of destiny to brave the depths of Khunmar? (Or should I have said, the avarice and greed?).

What kind of game pace are you going for?

On average I’m expecting a rate of one post every two or three days. I’m pretty laid back so no worries if a player gets bogged down in real life. If anyone thinks they will be out of pocket for a week or so, just give me a heads up.

Is there still place? I downloaded the Labrynth Lord. I believe I have played this edition for Blackmoor a few years ago

I rolled up stats that suggested a magic user (well, really, they suggest a sickly town clerk, but let's be generous in our estimations). So, I have some questions:

1. The M-U's spell book can contain however many spells, even if I only have one spell slot. Will I start with one spell in it, or is there I chance I have more?
2. Are you willing to give any guidance in choosing a good spell? That is, some adventures make a lot of use of Detect Magic or Read Languages, while others hand-wave those as boring, and others are suicide if you're not loaded with Sleep.
3. Objections to an M-U carrying darts?
4. Since my character is a) very weak, and b) doesn't have much to spend money on, I'm planning on hiring as many retainers as possible. Do you mind? They're very much a part of old-school play, but some DM's are annoyed by them, as they represent a lot more information that they need to keep track of. What's the going rate for a decent retainer?

I count six players and that is all I can handle at one time. All six of you have been added to the Khunmar game. ATM, I’m not taking anymore active players though this may/will change down the road. I will take reservations for those interested in joining when such a moment presents itself.
