Eventually (someday?) this will lead to the module Die Vecna Die.
But since the characters are only level 3, it may be a long while.

Hmmm I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Can you explain further?

There is no limit as to how many PCs can be in any given game.

I get it, but... I don't see the point.

No DM to lead the game? No set rules to follow? No... Goals?

Are you thinking like the Flailsnails games on G+?
Like pickup games, a different GM per mini-session?

I don't think that's what you're saying, but some interesting ideas here....

lol... even a mini-session in PbP can take weeks. Or months. Might as well just start up a new campaign folder for it. Easy enough to archive it when it's done, and then you have a categorized record of the event, vs. one long thread with 135 pages to it.

So... breaking it down to its basic components, Stone, you just want a chat room, right? I suppose it might have some merit for someone who wants to practice their role-playing skills, but I don't know if such a thread would have much longevity. It's hard enough to keep a game going that actually has goals and a game leader directing things.

It's an interesting idea. I'm in a new game, and I'm having a good time right now with the roleplaying in the tavern. But it seems that it could only hold interest for so long. I like the idea of using it to hone your roleplaying skills, but it sounds like it would need a DM to throw in some curveballs, so to speak, to keep the tension and thus roleplaying going.

Yea, I can see where curveballs would keep it from turning into a chatroom vibe. Above all, I'm still new here, just wanted to make sure the idea had already been bounced around.

Never been bounced around. You're the first to bring anything like this up I believe. Its a really good one though. I may have more ideas later. Interesting thread.

You dont have to go adventuring, the adventure comes to you. Think of it as the 'Deep Space 9' of Dungeons & Dragons. Or the 'Restaurant at the End of the Realm'. :ugeek:

Multiple DM stuff would be fantastic too. I would be interested in learning the ins and outs of DMing by pbp and it seems like a great start up project, so if anyone thinks they wanna co-op.... :)

Any other ideas before I ask Toni for the reins of the TOTUS, the Tavern of the Unseen Servant?
Or better yet, the TIOTUS, The Inn Of The Unseen Servant. Because an Inn probably has rooms upstairs, or outback, or.... BELOW

I personally would allow as many players as I could find. But if/after it gets alot of peeps, I would really like some input.

Yeah, sorry, Stone, I certainly don't want to discourage you from giving it a try. Good luck with the project!

Cant help but think you have some doubt. Better to air them now, than after a long admin setup.

Nah. Just doesn't sound like my cup of tea. That doesn't mean it isn't a good idea or that others won't join you. It's just not something I'd participate in.

I'm not worried about Admin setup. ToniXX does all that. ;)

I had some more thoughts and questions about this that I wanted to bring up:
  • We could do this with multiple DMs. How that would work I don't really know.
  • I could set up the forum so that any REGISTERED user can post. This means that there is no list of users that have to be maintained, thus, anyone could walk into the tavern and start talking.
  • It seems that there should be some underlying plot/drama/tension going on, and it should be set in a certain world. This sort of steers away from having multiple DMs, because it might be hard to get more than one DM on the same page as far as plot and what world it all occurs in.
  • We could select a world... maybe one that we know pretty well, and go with that. But which one? Greyhawk?
I just wanted to throw these thoughts out there.

I was thinking generic world since I'm not too familiar with settings.
Player backgrounds could add to the history perhaps....which opens up a whole new idea...
The Unseen Servant Setting.
Assuming Tonixx can come up with a large generic map (?) each member could populate a given section?...my head hurts again....I better stick to the Tavern for now.

I better stick to the Inn for now.
I will give my ability to dm here a shot someday. It will happen sooner or later.
I would/will use 2.5 edition, allowing the optional races, so dont freak out if you wander into an Inn with a tableful of minotaurs and goblins that have had too much to drink someday.

Alright, by posting here, I have taken the next step in creating the campaign I will be running. Here is what has been decided upon.

The Inn of the Unseen Servant (Seemed appropriate)
World of Greyhawk (most loved by players)
2.5 Edition with Split Ability scores and Optional races (with a few exceptions)
EDIT- NOT DOING OPTIONAL RACES- yet
Skills and Powers, Spells and Magic, Combat and Tactics, Tome of Magic
(It's the youngest of the old school systems, but it's the one I learned on)
No Book of Artifacts (too powerful, I learned that the hard way)
No Psionics (No fun as a DM)

I will eventually want players to come up with story background on why they have entered......
The Inn of the Unseen Servant somewhere on the streets within the City of Greyhawk.
Upon acceptance, then character creation begins.

If all of that is acceptable, then change Roller app to gm and Ill take the next steps.

You are really going to have to lead us by the hand on this one. I think most folks here (myself included) aren't familiar with all that material.
Stonjuz wrote:No Book of Artifacts (too powerful, I learned that the hard way)
Good Lord! You mean to tell me the BoA was an option for character generation in some of the games you played?

"I will have a Ring of Gaxx and a Sword of Kas, please." :D

I would suggest doing a recruiting thread with some more info exactly what the game/adventure is about, how many players you want, etc, and take from there. Once minimum number of players is reached start doing chargen.

Official first recruitment call for ....
The Inn of the Unseen Servant
(although I still don't have any blessing from Tonixx, or any of the other moderators, to call it that yet)
2.5 EDITION Players Options (split abilities)
Skills and Powers, Spells and Magic, Combat & Tactics - No Psionics
As much as I love the idea ---- no optional races (maybe my next game)
Characters can be humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, halflings, half-elves and half-orcs
City of Greyhawk

Choose a race & class (and character kit if you want, although I think they are kinda weak)
no monks (because that's the way my buddy Kaskoid would want it)
....and be the first to have a drink in ....
The Inn of the Unseen Servant

Character creation is a bit longer than most.
Bringing characters over from games that have dried up is welcome, but some or most would require modifications.
