You find yourselves in the nation of Ardun, located in central Margant. Specifically, you are in the mining town of Craldash, in the western portion of the Newiron Hills. The town is bustling and goods are moving faster than usual. It is early evening in the month of Deilan. The climate is warm and the sun sets late in the day this time of year.
You have heard that the Tûran tribes on the high steeps of eastern Tibbenlan, a nation to the north and west, have banded together and are on the offensive. They call themselves The Order of the Red Blade, and are moving east, recruiting or enslaving humanoid and human tribes as they go. The Order has entered the territory of Fallmeade, north of Ardun, and threatens to occupy its capital, Clydwyn. There is talk that the Red Blade forces will soon move through Terian’s pass and enter Ardun itself. King Elding has ordered the army to move north to stave off a possible attack.
Even with the talk of war, the townspeople are trying to enjoy the night. You have been in town for a week or so, and are becoming restless. Tired of the usual menu at the inn, as well as that ugly half-orc waitress who works there (and overcharges you), you’re on the street looking for different fare. Your attention is drawn to a boisterous establishment. The sign reads ‘Tavern of the Crimson Nymph’, and just as you turn, a body is flung out through the front doors. Two burly guards step out and stand over the small frame writhing in the street. They warn the offending thief to not return or face a worse fate.
This tavern looks promising. You walk past the guards and enter through the double doors. The place is busy, but there are couple tables available. You see busty dwarven waitresses serving large tankards of ale, and the food being enjoyed looks tasty and abundant! As you take in the scene, one of the waitresses says ‘I can’t serve you unless you take a table. How about this one?’ She motions to a table in the center of the room with seating enough for all of you.
As you take your seats, some of you notice a burly (and surly) half-orc sitting at a table off to the side, alone. He keeps giving your group somewhat menacing glances, but he doesn't seem to be much of a threat.
