You continue climbing the spiral staircase, Agrippo at the fore. After another 40’, the stairs end at a 10’x20’ landing made of flagstones that wobble underfoot. A chill draft whistles mournfully through the room, rushing down from the circular stairs on the north end of the east wall, through the landing, then to the south down the stairs you just climbed. A heavy metal-bound door stands in the wall to the west. Beside this door, an ancient portrait stands watch over the area, its eyes staring defiantly back at your own.
Tibbius gasps.
“I just saw the eyes in the portrait move!”

Vorkath thrusts Excommunicator into the portraits face. "Die evil spirit!"

Robert sticks his torch into the portrait in hopes of setting it aflame.
"Burn! After all Vorkath is not the only one here that gets to set things on fire." throws in a sarcastic look and smile.

Vorkath and Robert approach the portrait, intent on destroying it. Vorkath raises his sword. Robert drops the end of his torch towards the painting. Suddenly, they stop, entranced by what they see in the portrait.
The colors in the portrait shift and swirl. The rather dull colors become more vivid. You find yourselves hypnotized, unable to look away from the shifting, swirling patterns.
Only Ireena and Tibbius resist the enchantment. Tibbius pushes his way forward toward the the portrait. He tries to slash it with his dagger, but finds it surprisingly difficult to hit. His blade hits only air. He slashes again, nicking the frame. An arm reaches out of the frame. In its hand, it wields a short sword. It swings wildly at Tibbius, missing him entirely, but the portrait recovers and slashes the magic-user across the chest!
(Tibbius: -3 HP). Tibbius’s riposte hits nothing but air.
Tibbius changes tactics. As the portrait barely misses with another swing, Tibbius reaches toward it and speaks the word “
Gigawatz.” The frame shimmers and shudders with an electrical shock! The frame looks badly burnt and frayed, but the pattern of swirling colors continues to captivate your attention.
The elf finds himself floating toward the ceiling. He stabs ineffectivly at the portrait as he rises. Within a minute, he is 10’ in the air and still rising.
He quickly ponders his options. The portrait is heavily damaged—one more hit might destroy it. He is out of melee range from the portrait, but could throw his dagger, hoping that a hit would destroy the painting and release everyone from its spell. He could cast a spell to fly, breaking him from the levitation, allowing him to resume attacking—or flee. But using that spell would leave him very low on magic until he was able to rest. He could attempt to dispel the magic in the portrait, although its magic is certainly powerful. Of course, there's also his wand, with its unpredictable results.
Tibbius acts...
Okay, folks, tell me what Tibbius should do. The next move may be crucial and I don't want to NPC the entire combat.
Where is Ireena in all this, you may ask? Stay tuned.

Is Agrippo enchanted also? If not he will maliciously vandalize the portrait with the pointy end of his spear,
to hit 11, damage 8

Yes, Agrippo is also enchanted by the patterns. Any thoughts on what Tibbius should do?

"oh the colours, the colours.... reminds me of dark Cherises' eyes, and luscious Wenda's cherry lips, and juicy Lucys freckled thigh, Madam Eva's grey hair"...Agrippo lost in a world of lust and wonder...

If we are indeed resting soon I say fly and wack it.
Iluq, enchanted by the portrait, simply stands there with a look of happiness as his mind is elsewhere.

FYI, melee attacks while flying are at a cumulative -1 per round up to a max of -3 (see DMG p. 52). Because Tibbius wouldn't have full control of his movements due to the levitation also being in effect, his attacks would be at an additional -1 and his AC at +1.

Tibbius continues battling the portrait as the rest of you stand enthralled.
As he continues to rise, Tibbus reaches into his pockets for a bit of dust, throws it over his shoulder, says
“aerialus peterpanus” and begins to fly! But the portrait uses its levitation against him. When he climbs or dives, a force pushes him the other way. It’s a little like trying to ride a horse across a ford through a raging river.
Tibbius sheathes his dagger and grasps his staff with both hands as he momentarily flies away from the painting then comes about to swoop toward the portait. The levitation’s push suddenly changes direction and he loses his grip on his staff! He manages to recover and catch the staff before it falls, but the fumble opens Tibbius to a counterattack from the portrait. The portrait swings twice. The first attack comes nowhere near the flying mage, and the second only nicks his arm
(-1 HP).
The portrait strikes again, hitting the mage solidy in the leg
(-4 HP). Tibbius backs out of melee range. Holding his staff with one hand, he draws his magic dagger and throws it at the portrait. The blade clatters harmlessly off the wall. He draws and throws his other dagger, the one that glows with a continual light. It hits! The dagger lodges in the center of the portrait! The colors fade, the swirling pattern stops, and all that remains is a portrait of a dead man with a dagger in his chest.
The rest of you emerge from your trances to see Tibbius flying near the portrait. Randolph Cat pokes his head in from around the corner to the stairs and lets out a curious, “Meep?”
Ireena is nowhere to be seen.
