Camp is made and meals prepared. As darkness falls the stars come out one by one, followed by the waning moon. Off on the horizon, just visible above the looming mountains, a comet appears in the sky, trailing a tail of fire behind it.
Thaumont 21, AC 1000
The morning come cool and clear. Bregalad's cough has worsened overnight, and he barely slept as he tossed and turned.

Saul has a splitting headache. Too much anger does his sleeping no good and Bregalad's cough has him worried... one more person to worry about.
"You trying to compete with Thordin's snore? - he looks over to their companion and gives him his best grin - You are sounding better but you've had the benefit of practising all night, we should get you to a physician."
His mood is severely improved but he can't forget the previous day.
"Eh, guys... I have to apologise over what happened yesterday. I'd say I don't know what came over me but I know. I lost my head and that's that, no excuses, no curses, nothing. Just me being a lousy person. Not the first time it happened but I hope it was the last."

Drudsa the dabbler
"No need for apologies as far as I am concerned Saul. Any encounter can be risky despite an apparent weakness of the opponent: that arrow that struck Semele could have just as easily taken any of us down."
Seeing the trouble faced by Bregalad the young mage adds
"Maybe it is wiser to retreat back to Threshold. There we can seek healing to whatever curse is tormenting Bregalad and we can also obtain more holy water, which will prove useful when facing the undead in the lower levels of the tower. We also have to decide if we are going to continue supporting the authorities with the hunt of Elwyn the cleric. He is not gonna sit idle in his hideout, while this tower will most likely still be here for us to explore later."

Lanny the elf
Lanny spends his time on the night shift studying the stars with his spyglass. He is intrigued by the appearance of the comet.
"I wonder, Bregalad... Fifty years have passed since the wizard Kelgar lived in this tower and watched a similar comet through his spyglass... What if this comet passes by our world every fifty years? Whatever the case, I hope we find the antidote to your illness inside the tower, otherwise we will need to return to Threshold as soon as possible to seek out medical help."
In the morning, Lanny repacks his bedroll and tent and then looks around at his companions.
"There may be more kobolds in the area, perhaps we should keep our animals in the coachman's quarters if we are returning to the tower. Although Drudsa brings up a good point. We should return to Threshold soon if we are unable to find the solution to Bregalad's ailment. I do believe it is time to return to our duties in seeking out Elwyn and Bargle anyway. But I am willing to spend one more day searching this tower if everyone else is."

The spyglasses' magnification, while perfectly respectable for observing terrestrial phenomena in greater detail, proves inadequate to accurately study the comet streaking through the cosmos. At least, Lanny is unable to discern if there is life upon it as the journal found in the necromancer's tower seems to suggest. The spyglass certainly makes it appear closer, and in greater focus; the fuzzy edges visible with the naked eye resolve into crisper lines when viewed through the spyglass. While the comet viewed without magnification appears as a yellowish, elongated blob of light, through the glass Lanny can see subtler colors of blue and green around the edges.

Meagnor the Elf
"I'll stay and fight if that's what my friends want. But if the aid needed by Bregalad lies at Threshold, there is where I think we should go. Can you handle one more day, my friend?"

Tratiln agrees with the others, "I do wish to cleanse this place of the evil that is inhabiting it but I doubt I would ever want to turn it into our base. Perhaps we could sell it. But our friend and companion comes first. Whatever the cough is, it is not natural and we need to make sure it is taken care of less he suffer permament damage. And I too wonder if there is any news on the Elwyn or Bargle front. Their plots intrigue me and worry me at the same time."

Bregalad the elf
Bregalad raises himself up, after his restless sleep. He returns to Tratiln the borrowed shield (thereby lightening his load), and then responds to the party.
"Friends, thank you for your concern. Returning to Threshold may be the best course of action for me, but I still wish to free Sasha (even if the ghost proves not to be her true spirit). Grant me this one wish.... that we sprinkle holy water upon the evil symbol, and then burn it away with flaming oil. I cannot abide the continued existence of those foul marks. Afterwards, I leave my fate in your hands."

Lanny the elf
Lanny listens to Bregalad's suggestion about confronting the arcane symbol.
"I have no objections to your request, Bregalad - that arcane symbol may be the very evil that needs to be destroyed. But if we are going back to the upper levels of the tower, I suggest we first search the storage rooms on the third floor. The wizard may have stored some of his own journals there."
Lanny intercepts the shield that Bregalad tries to return to Tratiln.
"Allow me to carry this for you, Bregalad, until your strength returns. I need a shield anyway, as mine was shattered by the zombies. Allow me also to take your place in the second rank until you are healed. Watch over Semele and Drudsa."

Marodin
Marodin wants to do whatever will help Bregalad get better. I think it's worth doing some exploring in the tower's depths while we are here, as it seems that solving the ghost's curse would cure the elf as well, but if we don't find a solution soon, we may be best off seeking a Cure Disease or Remove Curse spell.

Thordin the dwarf
"I say we go back into that tower and finish this. The cure for Elf #2 is in there somewhere."

Bregalad the elf
"Yes. Thordin's numbering system will be thrown off, if elf number one, two, or three is no longer with the party. Let us not tax our strongest fighter's mind!"

"If he keeps the party up all night with his snoring he may just be the only one fighting."
Saul lets out a laugh before looking despondent, realising something.
"Hey, why is he the strongest fighter, Elf #2?!"
His attempt to pass his question for a jest fails, Saul's ego is shattered and he hasn't even had a decent breakfast!
"Fine, we check the damn tower for a cure. I still say we should head back to town before exploring it but screw it, as soon as Semele is up and running we should leave though I still think Bregalad should go with her back to town and sit this one out."

Lanny the elf
Lanny checks his equipment to make sure he has everything he will need for the crypt.
"So, shall we proceed straight to the crypt, or do we ascend the tower once again to fulfill the task of exterminating the arcane symbol?"
Lanny gives some thought to the enemies they will be facing.
"The kobolds said the denizens of the crypt were like ghosts... hard to hit and even harder to kill. I hope our weapons are adequate... I'm certainly glad that my
magic missiles never miss their mark..."

The Previous Night
After dinner and before the watches are set Drudsa, Lanny and Tratiln study their respective spells. As he stares at the arcane formulae scribed in writhing, wriggling letters in the spellbook Drudsa has a moment of clarity and suddenly is able to grasp the workings of a spell enabling him to cast his voice some distance from him.

Meagnor the Elf
"By the diary reports, it seems that the lower levels were forbidden after Sasha's death, so maybe the source of evil is there, but I don't think the underground was a place where the maid would wander. So I still believe we should clear this tower all the way up before going down."
