A Hero is Me

Hello all, and well met. You all can call me Daos. I've been playing (mostly DMing, actually) 2nd Edition AD&D for a little over 15 years now. It's actually the only system I really know. I'm currently running two separate games over on another forum, but I'm hoping to be able to be a player again soon.
In terms of settings, I'm really knowledgeable on Dragonlance. I know a little bit of Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Planescape, and Spelljammer. I know almost nothing to nothing about any other published settings, but as long as there's a wiki or something out there, I don't mind doing research.
I really enjoy roleplaying, combat, exploring, leveling-up and so forth equally. I tend to prefer games with a mix of those things. A game that was nothing but mindless combat would get dull quickly, but a game where we just spend the entire time chatting in a bar, having drinks, would likewise get boring, too.
I don't like being coddled. If I get the impression the DM is protecting the players, I quickly lose interest. After all, if there's no real danger, then combat isn't exciting, it's monotonous.
I have the most fun when my character's actions have consequences. If, for instance, I save the baker and his family from those goblins, I want to see them again later on and be able to check up on them. If they just disappear into the ether and are never seen again, that's no fun. I like having proof that my character's actions are shaping the world in some way.
Also, I really like playing a hero. I almost always play good characters, so in a party full of evil or neutral characters, I probably won't fit in well. Although I'm not against playing non-good characters; I may do so as a lark, but overall, I prefer sticking to good.
I tend to favor humans or half-elves for races and clerics, mages and paladins for classes--but honestly, I'm happy to play anything or fill any role.
Finally, I have plenty of freetime and can post multiple times per day if necessary (assuming my internet cooperates, that is).
I guess that's the long and short of it; at least everything I can think of, at any rate. I hope to join some games soon.
