This is the place for off topic conversations and such. Please respect us all by keeping real-world topics out, please. You'll have plenty of in-game troubles to worry about soon enough. ;)

Hi, all. For those that don't know me, I'm Terry Mixon, a long-time lover of Traveller. I started playing in the early 80's and have never lost my love for the classic game, and now Mongoose 2e.

I was in the Army back in those days and we gamed a lot. A LOT. all the experience I got as a gamemaster helped me eventually become a full-time science fiction author, which I have been doing for the last ten years. In the middle of all that, I was a contract IT guy at NASA's Johnson Space Center in the Mission Control Center. I worked directly with the flight controllers and was there for 16 years. When they laid me off, I made the jump to writing. 40+ novels at this point. I might be doing something right.

That's me. Pretty simple guy. You?

And which of you is Kev Axiflo? It has to be helvorn or ateno. I see the character sheet and need to assign it to you.

Hi all!
I'm Mavik Felna aka Mark F. Anderson in the real world. I'll be playing Ui'a "Little Erma" Felna.
I started playing Traveller back in '79 in middle school. My friends started a gaming group in the school library and we started with AD&D and strategic board games but soon discovered Traveller as well. We played a fair bit through the '80s but after everyone grew up and moved away by the '90s I'd stopped playing. I occasionally would pick up a new rulebook over the years and off and on played other games, I didn't come back to Traveller until last year when I saw the MgT 2e Bundle of Holding. Now I'm in a couple of semi-weekly games and really enjoying it.
Little Erma is a long time character of mine, starting as my daughter in a bounty hunter sci-fi setting my group created in the '80s. She gets her name as she is named after Erma Felna from Steve Gallacci's (https://stevegallacci.com/) Erma Felna, EDF comic. She is rambunctious, loves adventure and hates math.
This Erma is much older and wiser. She is a slightly shorter than average Aslan female who's family of traders originates in the Union of Harmony down by Solimani space. She has yellow golden fur, now riddled with streaks of white, especially around her muzzle and ear tips. Her eyes are a watery emerald. Her build is fit, if on the slim side, and not bulky. She is comfortable in simple ship's suits but being an experienced steward she knows how to dress for the higher class clientele.
Her current career path starts at the University of Rhylenor, 26 years ago, but I can alter that to better fit with someone else as a contact.
Look forward to meeting everyone and having fun.

About me:
I'm Carl Hicks Jr. and I'm a historian and Civil War reenactor. I also did several years in the SCA as a medieval reenactor. I served in the US Army for 6 years as a young man and am a proud cavalryman (I rode with the 11th ACR patrolling the Iron Curtain in the last years of the Cold War). But as a reenactor I'm infantry. This proud cavalryman is allergic to horses, so my spot at Fiddler's Green is in the track park around back
I'm a lifelong Traveller fan and something of a lore monkey when it comes to the Third Imperium and the OTU.

Not to jump the gun too very much, but I have a couple questions for the group and/or Terry.
In the game I'm Merchant 2nd Officer Selet Davril, Cassildan bridge officer aboard the VF.
a] What is the post pace we ought to maintain? Some play by post games are very quick, with 3-5 posts a week, but that's kind of hard on the ref to keep up with. Some are so slow that folks lose interest. I assume that we're looking for a happy medium.
b] When we get to making connections between PCs, Davril has spent the last 16 years plying the trade routes of Core Sector as an employee of Achenaar Antilles Lines. I've got nothing really noteworthy in the Career Events, just meeting people [an Ally and a Contact] or skill training [an engineering school]. Plenty of opportunity to encounter everyone on their way to this or that event in their timeline.

Based on the other game I run, I can say with surety that at times it will be back and forth even in the same day, and at other times not a peep for a few days. I check constantly (which is occasionally problematic) so you will not overwhelm me. I'm all for a happy medium, but it might lean faster than medium. ;) Just speak up if I need to slow a bit. I get excited too and sometimes don't leave enough time for all responses. I'm trying to do better, but Helvorn will tell you I still have work to do. ;)

I believe that I've been over ottarrus' and mavikfelna's characters, adding data to the equipment as I can just drag the data from the compendiums character sheets (in the crosshatched areas) and you might be able to as well. I'm not sure.

shaidar still has some equipment to buy, but I think his character is mostly done.

Ateno and Helvorn, how is it going? Do you need my help on any of this?

Hi everyone,

My name is Steve and I'm in my 50's. I'm been playing RPGs since my teenage years, mostly fantasy such as AD&D. But I've always liked sci-fi.

My Traveller experience to limited to what I've played here at the Unseen Servant, mainly Tiglath's still running District 268 mercenary game.

My available bandwidth for posting is a little limited, but I will keep up best I can and we shall see how it goes. I'm in the UK so my activities are probably ahead by 8 hours or so.

My character has just retired from 6 terms as an engineer/officer in the Navy. So I have been limiting his equipment to more personal stuff, and maybe a few toolkits.

I do have two rival/enemies to be fleshed out, so maybe we can link a connection into one of those somehow, probably the betrayal rather than the badly failed romance. :)

I'm Eric Rhude, grew up as a Alaskan homesteader. Started with the original dnd White box while a young teenager. Then followed the exact Traveller route of flunking out of college and joining the army (medic) for 3 years, where I found Traveller. Lots a GMing and playing of both and others up to today. I also served in the Coast Guard and have been a RN for almost ten years. Long time Scadian, about as long as gaming.

It seems I don't have the time I used to, other things have got in the way. So let me know if I am slacking.

I will try the character creation soon, but I did a 12 hour shift at a open air market yesterday which also happened to be my anniversary, so today (monday) may be out. :)

Looking forward to playing.

Eric

I’ll try to find a common pace that doesn’t overwhelm anyone. If I go too quickly, just say so. I don’t want to put anyone in a bind.

I am Matt Ashley and like others got involved in the late 70s with AD&D, board games and miniatures (lots of ancients and WWII micro armor) as well as traveler. I am a Navy ring knocker and ran nuclear reactors aboard cruisers for about eight years before getting out and doing a variety of things in industry. The last 22 years were at a company making every imaginable aircraft and spacecraft transparency. That was fun but I had a forced retirement a few years ago due to ALS. Now I am Terry's conscience when he gets carried away with the posting rate.

I will try to get my Character done up today. My concept is an entertainer/steward.

Nice to have two stewards, three with the NPC. It's appropriate for a liner crew and in my experience not a lot of people want to play the stews.

Selet Davril spent most of his career plying the trade routes of Core Sector. He's a deck division officer [aka pilot] with some training in power systems.
Feel free to PM me with a connection idea.

He really is my speed conscience. ;)

Looking forward to seeing it. You have access to edit your character, so add it in and tag me when you’re done because we will have a few more things to do. You too, Ateno.

My character mechanics are done save for resolving three Contacts, an Enemy, Connections, starting gear, detailed bio and of course an Unusual Life Event that will need DM input. The gory details are on Roll20.
