A new player for your killing pleasure

A cold chill runs down, you, the Game Masters spine, as yet another greenhorn with delusions of grandeur and aspirations of unattainable greatness dares to stand before your magnificence. A blatant sneer of contempt and over confidence crosses his face as he opens his dirty hide backpack and begins tossing relics of ages past to the foot of your throne.*
"These..." shouts the noob, "These are trophies of my previous conquests!" You stare down from your lofty seat of high station at the plaques gathering at your feet. Amongst them you see the familiar tomes 1st edition Dungeons & Dragons, Star Frontiers, Top Secret, Car Wars, 2nd 3rd, 4th edition(UGH), and finally 5th edition (which rocks!) Dungeons & Dragons, FASA Trek, Starwars, Serenity, Basic Role playing, Dark Sun, Alternate, Gamma World...and still the arrogant fool continues to remove tome after tome from his worn pack.
Rolemaster, MERP, CODA...
"ENOUGH!" proclaims you, the Dungeon Master, with a roar as soft as thunder. "Why come you hither, if more than to litter my throne room with relics of days gone by?"
Cowering from the verbal lashing the noob responds meekly "T -t-to find favor in thy sight, Master of a thousand dungeons. To be accepted into thy arms and welcomed into adventures thou hast yet prepared. Will thou haveth me not?"
*You, the Dungeon Master furrows your brow in quiet contemplation. At last a decision is made and your icy glare humbled the newcomer further as he awaits your ruling *
Okay. That was fun. I'm an old school player (mostly Dungeon Mastering/GMing) of the above mentioned game systems. Since 1970s I've had my finger in dang near every pie. I also enjoy computer Role-playing Games and have played everything from Zork to my Favorite (so far) game, Neverwinter Nights2 for which I was a server Dungeon Master as well.
My group of table top players doesn't meet nearly enough to quench my RP appetite and I am hoping to do so here. I'm mostly interested in 1st edition Dungeons & Dragons and Gamma World but...am open and at least moderately proficient in most other systems. Hope to see you in game!

Welcome, tooleychris! Love the introduction!
I do hope you'll find a game soon. I would gladly add you to the waiting list for my game (
Adventures in Foxmoor), but am already at capacity and unfortunately couldn't work you in right away. Though, my own availability is going to be changing slightly in a few weeks so, maybe if you're up for a post-per-day pace, I might be able to think of something that would allow the introduction of a new player or two.

I just want to be there when you and Ethan have to battle for the Grandmaster of Unseen Servant Flowers title!
The posting will be as fireworks, with speeds that one must shield their eyes to peer into its unreverberate blackness of the abyss. Failed saves versus awesomeness will leave one in fear of the battle's malign suggestiveness. Oh yes, that day I want to be in attendance.

No post is off-limits from derailment.
I would have posted sooner, but I'm a bit slower on the start this morning...

That happens in old age.
Wow, looking at the 'Age Categories' chart in the 1E DMG (page 13), you're in the last year of being considered "mature." Next year, when you're my age, you'll officially be
immature middle aged.

I live a constant struggle to at least somewhat suppress my immaturity.

Now, not so proudly, adding beta-test Dungeons and Dragons 5.0, which my group has been playing for a bit.
It's better than 4.0 but still a piece of role -playing garbage, IMO. 3.5 is WAY better.
I Beta tested 4.0 as well and gave them a novel worth of changes but they didn't listen to most.
Just got a response from them on my critique of 5.0 ,which was a joke.
I'm so done with Wizards.

Ah well testing 5.0 I did that too and I agree with parts of your statement
"piece of role -playing garbage."

You're talking about what they're calling DND Next, right? If so, I didn't even consider the new game as a whole, but I found that I did like a few individual rules from it. I think the different types of armors falling into weight classes (limited dexterity benefits) is one. The more generous ability stat modifiers came from there, too, I believe. I'm pretty sure there was at least one other that I can't think of off hand.
While I'll most likely never actually play it, gleaning even a few nuggets from it was worth the beta-testing efforts.

Yes dmw D&D Next = 5.0 or at least it does to me. the only thing I liked were one they brought back Monk class and did not limit it to one or two races.
