Telemachus

Unless his colleague Feargus has anything else to add, Telemachus takes his leave of the sage and heads out to find one or both of the mages Tyrol and Wilsha.

Feargus

Feargus is doing his best to keep up with the conversation. "Poison protection is good." He nods his head with a very serious look on his face. When it comes to business, he feels on firmer ground. "Yeah, we'll probably be out of town within another day. Send for us at the Stuffed Pheasant if you finish any of these sooner."

Aldus thanks the two prospective hires, and informs them that they are looking for something more specific, at this time. "We're hiring clerics. If you know of any, and can refer them to us, we'll make it worth your while. Say, a gold for any genuine cleric you send our way, up to five, and ten gold if you send one we actually hire."

Feargus

Feargus leaves the spear, shield and mask with Reker Nus. On the way out, he turns to Telemachus and says, "I'll probably try to track down the enchanter Tyrol Macneth about working on the giant turtle shell...especially if we'll be in town for a few days looking for a new holy man to accompany us.

Later that night, he approaches the innkeep at the Pheasant about performing in the common area. It has served him in the past as a way to meet new people as they pass through town.

It turns out Tyrol Macneth dwells in a tall, slender tower overlooking the Bel; from the road it appears to cling precariously to the rip rap that line the river's edge. The archmage is a cheerful, tall man with pointed goatee and a large gold hoop in one ear. "I understand you seek help enchanting an item!" he says, his voice surprisingly thin and reedy for one of his stature, "that is certainly a service I provide, although it is not without cost!"

Feargus

"Well, how about you take a look at this plate. We took it off the back of a turtle the size of a house after a legendary battle up near Junction. Well Newton was thinking - Newton is one of our companions - Newt was thinking that this could make a fine shield. It's dried out a bit now but I think you can see what we had in mind. And then Telemachus here was saying that maybe a fine shield like this could be enchanted...What do you say? And don't worry about coin...we have some of that.

"I can certainly do such a thing. What sort of enchantment are you looking for? The more complicated the enchantment the more expensive the process. I can perform a basic enchantment* for ten thousand alcedes, less the cost of the principal, which you are obviously providing. Additional ppwers will add to that price."
*a +1 enchantment, in other words.

Feel free to respond to the above post that occurs on the Firstday, or anything you want to do during the time below.
Fourthmonth, Secondday to Fourthday
Rhea's Ford

The adventurers spend the next three days searching for more hirelings and preparing for the next leg of their adventures. Spending more time proves to be fruitful; they encounter four more candidates:

*a middle-age swineherd who's tired of pig shit and wants to see the world,
*Lauta Paar, a warrior Rhea's Ford who has been working as a guard for the past three years, and has decided she would like to make some real money.
*Ribar Oshary, a cleric of Manifest, one of the most widespread faiths in the Scarlet Principality.
*Sangorma Galim, a bravo from Lyacar, a city in the Azure Principalities, where armed petty nobles strut the street, challenging others to duels at a drop of the hat.

Nus sends word that he has identified the shield found in the mummy barrow. "It has but a standard enchantment," he says "but is an interesting artifact from bygone days."

http://orokos.com/roll/747642: 2d4 4
That's a 0-level, a 1st level, and two 2nd level potential hires. And it's a fighter, a cleric, and an assassin.

Shield is +1.

Ribar Oshary

"Manifest represents the spirit of Civilization. During the Nadirs of every Cycle we are charged with protecting what we can; but at the end of a Cycle it is time for us to go forth, out into the Wilds, to claim land for Man to settle. Without Manifest Man would surely be reduced to huddling in caves as the forces of Chaos overwhelmed the world."

Telemachus also asks Tyrol if he can help with filling out the ruined parts of the bandit mage's spellbook so he can properly use them.

Tyrol examines the spellbook. "They're partial spells," he says, "on their own not especially useful. You can use them as a basis for research if you wish to do it yourself. Otherwise . . . I can sell you scrolls of these spells, which you can use as you wish."
The partial spells will halve the cost and amount of time needed to research the spells, should Telemachus choose to go this route. Refer to Hex 14.21 for more information. Tyrol can scribe the spells for 1000 gp and one week per level, if otherwise desired.

Fourthmonth, Second to Fourthday
Rhea's Ford

The adventurers also find a suitable factor to represent them in Rhea's Ford. His name is Tolniel Fer, a merchant by trade, who's business has fallen on hard times. He is looking to branch out into other lines of work. "I would be willing to work for you for 75 alcedes a month," he says, "and that will cover the small office I have retained. Anything more will be additional. I'll want to coordinate with your representative in Junction -- under her auspices, of course -- so it might be worthwhile to purchase a couple of fleet horses and some trustworthy lads to run messages back and forth. A fast enough horse can make the trip in a day, if they're pushed."

Fourthmonth, Fourthday
Rhea's Ford

Their business almost complete, the adventurers contact Madame Fleur via their magical mirror to appraise her of their next course of action. "I'm glad you checked in," she says, "I have news for Aldus. I found a space for him that he may wish to consider purchasing. It is a small storefront, between the Long Road and the tanneries. So, somewhat out of the way, but still in the business district. It's a two story wood building, of about 700 square feet, with sleeping quarters on the second floor, above the main floor, which could be used as a combination workshop and showroom. Best of all, however; it has a cellar, of about another two hundred square feet, reinforced with timbers. I thought he would be most interested in this feature. The current owner wants 600 alcedes for it."

Telemachus

The mage asks Tyrol if he has any other spells that he would consider scribing into a scroll and selling.

"I've recently run into issues with facing undead, as my spell repertoire lacks the means to damage them. Even a simple Magic Missile spell would be welcomed.

Also, have you ever attempted to develop a spell whose casting time was longer than normal but wouldn't immediately disappear from memory? Being able to cast a spell like Knock or Detect Magic while in a labyrinth, without sacrificing an offensive spell, would be highly useful to an adventurer like myself."

Aldus is delighted by the description of the shop. He authorizes Madame Fleur to free up some of his savings to buy the building, and asks her to look into any necessary repairs and decor to make it a suitable tailor's shop, and to price constructing a discrete exit from the cellar.

Checking in with the rest of the crew, he says, "We, ah, do plan on spending enough time in Junction to make it worth setting down the stray root or two, don't we?"

This also means that he has to make getting in with the local criminal element an immediate priority.

Telemachus

"Ask the fighters. I can build my tower and laboratory just about anywhere but the sword-swingers are usually the ones who want to build a castle and conquer their own kingdom or some such storybook drivel..."

Tyrol Macneth

The magic-user regards Telemachus with a somewhat smug appearance. "I have, in my library, all of the commonly known spells from circles one to three. I have books containing more esoteric spells, as well; at least one or two of the ones you have in the damaged spellbook. I do not know you well enough to let you peruse my library, but would be willing to sell you a scroll or two containing the spells you desire. You could do what you will with the scroll; you may read and memorize the spells contained within, or cast the spells, thus discharging the magic. As to your other question, I am not aware of any such spells. It may be possible, but I have not encountered anything like it, save the lesser magics that some can use at will."

Gardo

Learning that the group is staying in town for several days, he lets Mariusz take time off to do whatever. He speaks with Notai and encourages her to sell off her remaining items. If not, she can either decide to store them here with their factor or load them up with Mariusz on his horse, keeping her from being encumbered. He will attempt to rest to restore his HP, accepting any assistance from the others to speed up the healing.

During this time, he speaks with his new hireling. "Notai, as you have lived further north of here, do you know anything about the area we are heading into?" He will reference the map and point to the area above Alice. "Also, we encountered something unusual recently. We came across evidence of a different kind of people, a people who looked similar to the pigs humans now breed and raise. I think Telemachus said they were.... moychn? Know anything about them?"
It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.
