Quest #27 "Detecting Snares and Pits"
Re: Quest #27 "Detecting Snares and Pits"
Literally the worst rolls I could possibly get.
I weep for this man.

Re: Quest #27 "Detecting Snares and Pits"
Dexter Broadleaf
Dexter, rapidly becoming almost as impressed with this snake as he is with his own skill, tries once again to kill it. But this time, as the snake jerks away just as Dex releases his bullet and it flies wild off into the jungle.
Attack with Sling [1d20+6] = 3+6 = 9
So, it looks like I really did hit a 1 in 14,400 set of rolls!

"DRAKKAR!"
The terrified screech comes from Fitz, seeing his homeland companion getting eaten by a snake. Knowing he only has a few moments to help, he quickly removes his last three darts and hurls them one after the other at the giant reptile.
His rushes the first and then just flings the second, but...he slows down, ignoring the hammering in his ears, and drives the third dart in deep!
Darts attack: [1d20+3] = 4+3 = 7 [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6 [1d20+3] = 19+3 = 22
Dart damage: [1d2] = 2

To The Pits!
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy
Max hustles down the trail and comes in from another angle, making his way behind the fighters, hoping to get a blindside attack on the snake. (Only one action per character per round, please.)
Dex and Fitz continue firing at the beast, their earlier onslaught beginning to diminish slightly. The gnome tries to remember where his errant darts are landing, hoping he can retrieve them if they survive this fight.
Narramore stands upright again, attempting another swing with his huge sword. He slips on the very same wet patch and falls on his pretty armored butt. Drakkar is able to get one arm free, swinging his ax around wildly. He is able to slice a small chunk of the snakes cheek off, but the damage doesnt result in its bite being released. He is thrashed around even more, grunting from the severe pain the bite is causing him. 3 dam
For the first time, the party members notice the snake starting to wobble slightly in its tree. It is now bleeding in several places, but there is still some fight left in it.
Actions!

Sir William Narramore
With a growl of sheer frustration at his poor luck, the big man pushes himself upright and, carefully avoiding the slick spot on the ground, puts every ounce of muscle in his body behind a vicious downward strike.
[1d20 +3] = 16+3 = 19, [1d12 + 6] = 6+6 = 12
"Die, beast!"

Dexter launches another sling bullet at the snake, hoping to knock it out of the tree and force it to release Drakkar. But, once again, the bullet misses and zings off into the trees.
Attack with Sling [1d20+6] = 2+6 = 8

Not knowing what else to do, Fitz draws his dagger...something he's never really done in a fight...and rushes toward the big snake eating his friend.
"Hold on, Drakkar! I'm coming!"
If he gets a chance to attack (not sure if he can this round), he does his best to jab the beast someone along its massive back.
Dagger attack: [1d20] = 13 [1d3] = 2

To The Pits!
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy
The monster shakes his huge head again, its long fangs sinking into the dwarf even deeper. 5 dam Dropping his ax, Draakar lets out a groan as he fades from consciousness, his eyes rolling back in his head and a pink froth spilling from his cursing lips.
Dex sends a stone off into the jungle, wishing he could do more for the dying dwarf.
Simultaneously, Max rushes in and thumps a heavy blow on the big snake with his mace, Fitz charges it as well, slashing a gash along its side with his rarely used dagger as it begins to slither away, while Narramore nearly severs its head from its neck with his first meaningful attack so far. Of course, all three of the combatants believe that theirs was the killing blow, as the massive snake suddenly slumps over dead in its tree, dropping the battered and unmoving form of Draakar to the ground with a heavy thud.

Not holding out any hope for his two misses, Dexter does look for the two sling bullets that scored such devastating hits. As he looks over the snake's carcass, he asks, "Say, does anyone know how to work this kind of hide? Look at these colors! This could be worth a fortune. I'll skin it, if anyone thinks we could make some money with it."

Sir William Narramore
The knight fixes the beast with a hard stare, blade poised to strike again as it slumps in death. After a moment, assured that the mighty snake is well and truly dead, he joins Max beside Drakkar and breathes a sigh of relief as healing magic flows into their battered companion.
"I know nothing of working hides," he confesses over his shoulder. "But surely there are those within Beachtown who could make use of such raw material."

Dexter grimaces mildly. "I don't think that would go over well at all, Sir William. Showing up in a very hungry town with a huge snakeskin, but no snake meat? I think they would hand us a beating." He looks up into the trees, and says, "I suppose if we wrap it in a tarp or something, and hoist it into the trees, we could get it on the way back, if we aren't gone very long."
I'm guessing several hundred pounds, at least, for the entire thing, yes?

Let's cut that thing open and see what may be inside. Seems to like swallowing things whole. Might be some villagers in there. Never know what you might find. If we butcher it and hang it in this tree it should be safe for a while. Most wild things would know it is here and would avoid the area. We can make a litter to carry it back. Draakar is going to need some time to recover as long as there was no poison in that snake. If there was I can do nothing more for him.
Goes back to tending his patient.

"Honestly! Is that all you can think about? Working its hide, cutting it open...our companion is on death's door and you're wondering how to make a profit from a frigging snake!"
Fitz is aghast at the callousness of his companions...the folks he's venturing with.

Dexter nods gently at Fitz' exclamation. "I'm sorry, Fitz. I do not mean to sound indifferent. But the snake is dead, Drakkar is being tended by our healer and is no longer about to die, and we are stuck here, at least until he is back on his feet." He holds out his hands, palm up, and adds, "I am no healer. Other than tie a bandage, there isn't much I can do for someone, and Max' healing charm already stopped his bleeding. So, I suppose my pragmatism took over. We are out here, working for Nallissa, to make some money. This is just extra money to be made while we wait for Drakkar to gain his feet, not indifference to Drakkar's plight. I'm sorry if it looked otherwise." His eyebrows raise, hoping that Fitz understands.

To The Pits!
Sunday, 21st of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy
Looking around in the thick bush for his lost darts, the gnome doesn’t even notice Drakkar coming around again. When he hears the chatter about what the others intend to do with the snake, the last little burst of his battle rage slips out.
The episode causes the dwarfs eyes to suddenly pop open, while the color slowly returns to his gruff face. He blinks a few times before speaking. “Dumathoin‘s drawers! We all dead, then?” He sits up and looks around in confusion as the healing runs it’s course, his nearly fatal puncture wounds partially knitting back together.

Being a learned man replys in Dwarven.
Easy Master Dwarf. No one is dead. You were almost swallowed whole by that snake but are fine now just a little beaten up. Hold still and I will bless you again with the Glory of Boccob Father of Knowledge. Heal this brave dwarf and mend his wounds.
[1d8] = 5 CLW
Well that is all the healing I have for today. So we will have to be careful what we are doing now.
