Re: OOC I
Thanks. I have been playing on a couple other sites but it seems our DM has disappeared never to return. Has been about 3 months now of nothing. I got really lucky with those rolls. Much better than my other characters.

Been so long I can't remember what our roll method was...To be honest everyone's stats seem improbable. We must have used a rather generous roll method. Honestly can't remember. The new character definitely looks manipulated, but we all used the online roller right? I count like 3 thieves in the party. Time for some bad baddies to kill a few of us off LOL. I think mine is the least robust so it shall be poor Dorobo most likely who takes the fall for the team LOL.
We seem short on healing no??? My backup character was a bard I Think...can't even remember if I rolled it up or not.

Dave has never allowed the online roller. He makes you roll up each one with a macro or two. Been that way since at least 2012 (gulp)
This game was a straight 4d6 cut 1.

Re: OOC I
Yup. Macro of 4d6 drop lowest in a group of three just like it states on the character creation thread. 2 groups of 3 stats each. Straight off the creation thread. Rolls are all on Unseen Servant.

Yup. 4d6-1 in 2 groups of 3 rolls each just like the creation thread states. We have been creating her for the last month. All the rolls are on Unseen Servant. Kind of hard to manipulate anything online where the rolls are all saved.

Re: OOC I
yea, I just saw everyone had pretty good stats. but it was the method that allowed it.
https://anydice.com/articles/4d6-drop-lowest/
I was in the 10% or so range, Jaroo around 4%, 3 17s is .34% chance. The whole array looks pretty good, probably around 1 in 300 probability so not that rare but pretty lucky.
If you do straight 3d6s the probabilities drop massively. So if you look at it from 3d6 method it looks like you have an impossible roll, but it's not impossible at all. I don't know odds of 3 17s in 3d6, but just to give perspective. It's like 1 in 10 characters that get an 18 in the 4d6-1 method. It is like 1 in every 36 for regular

Re: OOC I
I have played in quite a few games on here and can only recall two that used 3d6 and both allowed you to roll 6 sets and pick your best one. 4d6 and drop the lowest is by far the most common method.

Re: OOC I
I don't see the original OOC anywhere in the archived/completed section but as I recall we rolled with the 4d6c1 method (that is on my die roller macro) but we then were able to subtract and add a certain number of points (which also prompted the initial proposal and discussion on jaroo's 5 intelligence as i recall). I don't see my original stat rolls in my character search history. Would it be somewhere else?

Re: OOC I
It is on the dice roller under that characters rolls. Tap search and it will come up with all your rolls for that character
. Has them all listed. Plus the macro is in the Character Creation thread

Re: OOC I
The search history only goes back so far. The original PCs for this adventure have archived off those rolls. I think you might can pull them up if you still have the link somewhere.

Re: OOC I
you do vanilla rolls when you REALLY want to play retro. That usually means you are rolling HP too.Rex wrote:I have played in quite a few games on here and can only recall two that used 3d6 and both allowed you to roll 6 sets and pick your best one. 4d6 and drop the lowest is by far the most common method.
Re: OOC I
Just commenting on how most people run their games, as a player I am not picking how everyone rolls. If I didn't play in games due to not rolling just 3d6 I wouldn't play in many. Most also go with max HP at first. Doesn't really matter to me as long as everyone has a good time. Who the DM is more important to me than the rolling method and thankfully we have some great DM's on here. The only game I have run (its in the completed games section if interested) used 3d6 with a minimum of 75 total and re-roll 1's for HP's. This gives the same average as 4d6 drop the lowest die, but I personally prefer it.

Lot's of rolling methods for sure-
3d6 makes a very imbalanced power swing character to character, more than being raw etc., it breeds a certain imbalance which I think is a reason people look for other methods.
4d6 drop 1 leads to overall good stats, few low stats.
reroll 3d6 for minimum of X leads to a good balance of characters whose stats are very diverse, some high some low. I think more probability of 18, but at the same time much higher probability of stats under 9 etc. with penalties.
I think 3d6 straight down the line with a minimum overall like 75 can really give each player an interesting stat block to work with and pick class after the roll etc. It can be fun especially for one shots in old modules etc. For longer campaigns I think 4d6 minus 1 really gives everyone robust characters that can live to the end.

Sorry for the delay in responding after introducing Alexa. I've been knocked out by bronchitis and a nasty sinus infection, plus the normal holiday craziness. Hopefully things will return to normal again here soon.
Either way, it's now just two macros where you roll 4d6c1 three times in each.
Alexa's rolls, while extremely impressive, are very much legitimate.
I might have allowed a bit of manipulation to the results when I first launched this game, but I wasn't able to find anything in the archived 'House Rules' section (I still do have all the old/original posts).ravenn4544 wrote:...but as I recall we rolled with the 4d6c1 method (that is on my die roller macro) but we then were able to subtract and add a certain number of points (which also prompted the initial proposal and discussion on jaroo's 5 intelligence as i recall).
