Battle in the creek ruin.
GM: Initiative for party [1d6] = 6 Hobgoblins [1d6] = 1url=
http://www.unseenservant.com/default.as ... acid=14565]Hobgoblins attack [1d20] = 3 [1d6] = 1 [1d20] = 20 [1d6] = 1[/url]
Throgrin attack [1d20] = 12 [1d3] = 2 [1d20] = 9 [1d3] = 3
The party, energised by the death of the ogre press their numerical advantage.
Griswold shakes off the chill ghoulish touch and tries to give the Throgrin a taste of his own cold steel. But the troll like hobgoblin parries the lunge away with one hand and in the other catches hold of
Dawg Dann's peavey. The trio grapple together and the rancid claws once again scratches through the hide and chain armours of the young warriors.
-2hp Griswold, -3hp Dawg and saves vs paralysis please. Sten lands a crashing flail head upon it to break them apart and as his companions suddenly convulse he puts himself in harms way to protect them.
Galmit and
Tollander make a pincer attack on one of the hobgoblin spearman but he nimbly backs away towards the shelter of the ruin.
Golgarth and the last spearman duel with critical blows. The group leader surviving a near fatal impaling as the speed of his strike takes the head off the hobgoblin just as the barbed spear penetrates through his chainmail. It feathers his chest with a tiny pinprick instead of skewering him like a roasting hog.
Advantage created, the saving throws could once more be crucial to finishing the fight.
next actions please and Initiative from Golgarth (or I will -1 your d6 roll!).

Golgarth
Golgarth party initiative [1d6] = 6
Golgarth longsword [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 [1d12+2] = 5+2 = 7
Golgarth longsword [1d20+2] = 9+2 = 11 [1d8+2] = 6+2 = 8 sorry I adjusted macro to take account of man sized not larger opponent so smaller damage. Will that effect last round, if so he will attack that one again.
The warrior steels himself and presses forward to attack the rubbery troll-kin hobgoblin.
"take that, a-ha."

Dawg Dann
His nerves react to the grisly claw poison from the tri-brid creature and he strengthens himself against the ghoulish touch.
Dawg Dann save vs paralysis (12) [1d20] = 15
He stabs at the creature, wrenching his weapon away and trying to hook him and pull him down with a snag on the leg.
Dawg Dann peavey (polearm) [1d20] = 9 [1d10] = 6

Griswold tight his grip to his lance, trying to fight in the back row, so the advantage would be his.

Battle in the creek ruin.
GM: Initiative for Hobgoblins [1d6] = 1
Pressing advantage to seize the day, the group hack and slash at the remaining duo of foes.
Golgarth, the attack roll used first is fine. I just needed the weapon macro adjusting.
Attacking the green skinned hybrid, the warrior wields another mighty blow, cleaving into the Throgrin chest.
Griswold and
Dawg Dann shake off the poisonous infection of pus to keep in the fight. They attack aggressively but their spears are parried as they try to impale the creature.
Sten once again demonstrates the merits of a crushing ball, his spiked flail being hurled in an arc and the chain links fly over the shoulder to smash once more into the Throgrin's head. It looks stunned for a moment and then collapses on the ground, glazed of eyes and grey matted blood streaming from the skull fractures.
Galmit swings wildly at the hobgoblin in the doorway. His axe embeds itself in the rotten framework sending splinters and stone shards flying.
Tollander uppercuts the hobgoblin with a cracking on his chin. He is sent flying and lands awkwardly, snapping his neck on the wooden bench.
There is no countdown from 10, the four opponent's lie still and unmoving. You can congratulate yourselves on another hard earned victory, teamwork and saving throws pulling you through.
The lower room of the ruin is about 20ft' x 40ft'. A fireplace hearth and chimney in the centre of the far wall with broken square window frames either side of the chimney breast. Some skinned frog-like legs are splayed over a roasting spit, the meat blistering from the hit embers below. Scattered in the room some loose clothing and accessories of the quartet. A narrow staircase ascends just by the exterior doorway to the room above. Another doorframe is in the east wall which leads to the collapsed rubble and remains of the rest of the house due to the spreading tree. The waist-up body of the bullywug victim cast under tree.

Griswold shivers with the experience. He never thought about a combat with such a creature!
His attacks were useless, so he have to try harder to make a diference. He kneels and looks if the creature have something useful to take

Golgarth
Assesses the victory. It has come at a cost of some injuries to the party, Tollander has a couple of wounds and probably Griswold and Dawg would not be able to suffer a major stab again. (-7,-3,-3). He looks again at the green skinned Throgrin. "If they are truly part troll and part ghoul then I suspect they have some regenerative powers. We should burn that one at least."
He will grab a leg and start pulling the body of the troll-kin towards the fire place. Not too keen on dismembering a body like some swamp butcher, he hopes someone will stoke the fire embers and get a flame raging. The others bodies we could throw into the swamp for the crocs to find or take them a little ways out into the creek and dump them overboard.
It might only be mid-afternoon but the ruin looks a good temporary shelter for the night before we explore further. Any suggestions?

Dawg Dann
I agree with burning the troll-hobgoblin but would rather do it outside the ruin than inside to save it stinking the place out if we decide to rest up a night here. Search the other bodies and then drag them to the boat, I can row out the creek and dump the carcasses a bit further away so the crocs or whoever nibbles on them won't get a hankering after us too. I will mark off a flask of oil to help burn the body.
"Only a scratch!" he says checking over the slash in his side. Bandaged up and the wound cleaned he should heal fine but wouldn't want to go swimming with the wound untreated.

Tollander thanks Sten for his unexpected help.
"What is the payment that your god desires? I will pay it if I can".
Tollander roles up his left sleeve and takes the small sickle from his belt.
"This is the payment that Gwanwen asks of his followers". He draws the sharp blade along his own forearm (
-1 hp)
"Blood is the essence of life. Gwanwen! I give of my own freely to heal another!" Tollander dips his fingers into the blood, and then smears it onto
Golgarth's wound.
Cure Light Wounds [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4
"Dawg Dann, I can heal you too if needed."

Aftermath of battle at the creek ruin.
The tranquil creek fills again with the sound of leaves rustling in the wind, blown free of high branches to feather fall onto the still creek backwaters. Far away, vocal screeches come from foraging primates and nearby the croak of hidden toads and the buzz of darting dragonflies. No more the call of battle, the 'Grim Reaper' harvesting his due from the bloodied weapons of the group and departing. But not without a final twist.
The Throgrin shows his true colours, the drab olive green, warty skinned humanoid regenerating a heartbeat of fresh life and a taste for blood and revenge. He tries to sit up as Griswold frisks his garb, trying to kick his legs free of Golgarth's grasp. Dawg Dann is on hand though, uncorking the flask of oil and pouring it over the prone creature. Pinned down by multiple opponents his clawed fists fail to tear flesh from the trio and a burning faggot brought from the hearth is tossed onto his midriff to immolate him in fiery tongues. Spears in hand, it is grisly work to pin the creature to the ground as he jerks in torment, burning to death, unable to reach the creek waters and immerse himself from the fire.
There comes a point of no return as ashen bones flake over melted flesh. The aquatic ogre and two Hobgoblin bodies are taken with the corpse remains and dumped as fish food or more precisely croc food.
A search of the quartet finds the following. Two spears and two oval shaped shields made of turtle shell. One dagger from the ogre, made with a bone handle and curved 'kukri' styled curved blade, almost scythe like with a sharp slashing edge. A longspear which Dawg Dann can identify as a bullywug spear since the river ranger Alcide carries one similar.
The Hobgoblins wore some mismatched armour made from pieces of leathery scale, sewn together with sinew cords. They are loose fitting and in need of repair but could make an over-vest to improve current non-metal armour.
Waist belt pouches contain various utensils of disinterest, (unless folk want a wooden spoon?), but one turns up half a dozen egg sized crystals, rough uncut quartz rocks of glassy yellow colours flecked with black veins. Another pouch contains pungent smelling sprigs with milky white berries.
Inside the lower room, the spit roasted bogling legs cook over the embers (unless the body parts are cast into the creek with the bodies). On the hearth a jug of spicy sauce stands ready to marinate the victim. There is little else to find in the room unless you want to start uprooting the flagstone floor. A cursory glance upstairs show the ruin is being used for overnight stays as dried reed-straw piles litter the room.
The party gather together and healing prayers spoken. Golgarth is uninjured so if Sten prayed first for Griswold then Tollander, the monk could sacrificially bleed himself to bind up Dawg Dann. This leaves everyone at full hp except for Tollander on -1hp.
(I re-rolled the cure spell macro. The Lab Lord differs from D&D for this spell, it is d6+1 not d8)
okay, next actions please.

Griswold dont think he is worthy of the dagger, since he have done no real harm to the creature. In fact, he could get eating by the creature with not my his comrades and the idea of burning him down. He have much to learn about the adventure world, that he felt that for now, that was a great reward.
The fighter will just follow the others, now with more respect from their shown adventure-wise.

Tollander decides to take a look at the flagstone floor. He looks for any of the stones that might seem oddly placed, with less mortar around them, or with any chipped edges where they have been levered up before.

Golgarth
If the troll-like hobgoblin needs some chopping up to burn on the fire past any point of regeneration, he will add his sword to the task. Once the Throgrin is ashen he helps load and unload the corpses into the barge and creek. I would like to include the body of the Wug' which appears half in the tree room and half on the spit. As much as I like 'frog's legs', feasting on the race of creatures I hope to contact amicably is not the right course of action and besides we have plenty of rations. So I will take the spit roasted legs down.
With folk discussing the finds, he offers the dagger to Dawg Dann. "Sort of thing a good swamp hunter could use. take it, neighbour!" He jokes, killing the ogre didn't seem so neighbourly but had to be done. "Proud of you guys. Fought well and stood together. Good team work. Six rock crystals and six of us. They might not be worth much but a fitting memento to our fight." He dishes one out each. Anybody know anything about the milky-white berries and leaves? Not a form of mistletoe is it or wolfsbane, ghoulsbane?
"Anyone want a spear of shield? They look rustic but well made."
I know there are hours of daylight left but if the ruin is a solid, weatherproof place as it seems and unless we think by the number of reed-straw mattresses that extra humanoids are returning to this place, I vote we spend the night here and take a little scout around. We are not pushed for time so it seems a prudent choice to gather information on the layout of the creeks and lands.
