Liam's smiled and nodded as he offered to help a couple ladies up to the edge of the cart assuming there is room. Yes, the little island just off the shoreline in front of town. all that done, he will begin leading Jack back up the trail to town.

As the water train starts heading back, Liam and Marge discuss the tiny island off the beach near town.

"Well, I have never been out there, but folks say to keep away from it. I heard that a young woman swam out there shortly after first arriving here, and she never came back. Some folk say the island is haunted, but I don't buy that."

"Heck, the fishermen wont even go there, so there has to be some truth to the haunting tales. I heard one guy that said there were nothing but old statues on it, buried in the thick jungle. But I have never heard of anyone I know going there to see for themselves."

"Why do you ask?"

Marge smiles at that wisdom.

"That is a great motto to live by my new friend. Say Liam........we have a few eligible ladies here on the island, me included." She winks at the man for good measure. "How is it that there is no Mrs. Meadstaff?"

Laughs heartily and returns the wink to the tenacious redhead. I would guess that is because I am not sure I have met her yet! he chuckles a little more then sighs. too busy being a young man making mistakes along the way I suppose. Perhaps this will be where i settle down for a bit.

The young ladies all blush at the conversation of the older couple as they enjoy their ride in the cart back to Beachtown.

Nothing jumps out of the jungle or the water at the group and they make it back to town unscathed.

The water is poured into the community barrels until they are completely topped off again. The rest of the half full cart of water can be used for Liam's new petting zoo. Marge couldn't be more ecstatic over the sight of the filled casks and she thanks Liam profusely for his help.

"So, you are staying with Raythan while you are here?"

"If there is something that you would like from any of us, just ask! It would be the least that we could do after your kind display of generosity."

Liam winks to Marge and tilts his head their way when he notices and barely stifles a chuckle before asking her more chit chat type questions about the people and happenings, what she and the other ladies have seen since being here. He will promise to be around if any of them think of what they may want him to do in the way of penning letters and making requests from contacts back home.
OGRE MAGE wrote:"So, you are staying with Raythan while you are here?"

Liam smiles and gives a nod. For now... but once I tend to my animals I plan to begin building my own home there. I made sure to bring all the materials I needed for this entire enterprise. I couldn't forget to build for myself as well, or course. Hopefully once I have it up I can have people over for some card or dice games. And soon... mead and honey!

OGRE MAGE wrote:"If there is something that you would like from any of us, just ask! It would be the least that we could do after your kind display of generosity."
Liam smiles and nods. I am just happy to help serve the people. I know I am already not popular among many here for holding out on slaughtering the animals. I accept this. I hope in the end they will realize the long game here. If we slaughter everything today... we eat well for one day. But if we a pacient, and allow the animals to do as they will, then it will not be long before we begin to have a steady supply of food and materials. Who knows? There may be eggs there right now! I own the first share to those that helped yesterday and are continuing to help watch the animals. But soon there will be more which can be distributed here and there. I plan to hold back at least one egg every other day and allow one chicken to brood and soon we will have more chickens.
There will also be more milk this morning and afternoon. Hm....
Liam seems to get a thought. Do you suppose some of the ladies would be willing to use some of their newly freed time to work into the rotation of guarding the animals? The more we have willing to spend a few hours here and there, the less time everyone will have for a shift. I don't mean to impose, of course, and I will certainly do all I can to make this time worth while. I do not intend to come across a beggar, but I am playing the long game here.
If it is any value, I can promise the first harvest of wool to the ladies as well. It would be good for making string or weaving.

Marge

"I don't see why some of the stationary duties the girls and I have around here couldn't be moved closer to where the animals are kept. We could watch the animals while we work. Killing two crows with one rock, and all that."

"If you don't mind, I would like to organize the duty shifts for that work though. I know which people work best together, so it should be an easy task for me. With our help, your animals will not only survive, but thrive out here. I am sure that the goodly folk around town can understand what you are trying to do in the long term. But if there are a few who don't...."
The large woman smacks her meaty fist into the palm of her other hand with a loud slap.

The girls depart to take care of their other chores with a wink and a wave.

"Thanks for the ride.....mister Liam!" They giggle as they rush off.

The man tilts his hat back a bit, letting his face show a bit more as he smiles towards Marge. I happily default to your superior judgment. I figure that if you have been so successful for so long at organizing the water gathering as you have, then you should be more than qualified for working out a manageable schedule of animal care. While we are on the subject, would you like to join me there now? Maybe we will have some eggs and the Goats surely need milking by now. He smiles and waves to the other young ladies, fully appreciating their sense of humor.

Marge calls out to the girls as they depart.

“Thanks to Mr. Liam, we can take Starday off girls. And possibly Sunday too!”

They all seem genuinely pleased about that news. She speaks a bit softer to the man as they make their way to Raythans house, the site of the largest farmette on the island.

“We have been getting by on less and less food since we’ve been here to be sure, but one simply can’t live without fresh water. Since that was the most important task on the island, that’s the one I took on. That is just they way I am, friend.”

They arrive on the homestead to find the holy mage standing on the front stoop of his house turned chicken coop. His smile is ear from ear as he deftly juggles three fresh eggs in the air out in front of him.

Nods and listens appreciatively to Marge's explanation, voicing his understanding of the logic. As they round the corner to see the elf juggling the precious eggs, Liam tries to stay jovial though the sight makes him quite nervous. My dear friend, as the saying goes, you break it, you buy it. Marge my dear, what price would you put the only three eggs on this island?

We need to full fill part of our promise to the good men that helped yesterday. We promised we would give a share of eggs to each. obviously, this is going to take time, but I want to make a show of doing exactly that. Since you two are my most trusted advisors on this island, let me ask you this... should we give out all three, or begin holding on back each day in hopes of getting one of the layers to brood and hatch more? You are far more aware of the situation here than I could hope to assume. He tried to make it obvious he is being sincere and not selfish, leaving it to them to figure out.

He also begin devising how to divide out the water to the animals which he will do before be gives the goats their morning milking, which is also earmarked for those that assisted him yesterday...

Then he remembers he needs to begin work on the coops for the chickens and the pigeons... and eventually his own home... his mind ever busy!

Raythan hands the eggs over to Marge and voices his opinion.

"Well Lee, If you're asking me, I will say this. I haven't seen a small or even medium sized predator in this village since I've arrived. If these folks can kill it, it will be dead and eaten. I don't see any reason that you shouldn't try to get some more little chickens hatched right away, since they wont be bothered too much by snakes or other dangerous animals around here. But, what do I know? I've never raised chickens before."

Marge tends to agree, even though she knows the eggs would do at least one family here some good.

"I agree with Raythan. Lets try to start them brooding right away and see what happens."

The farmers who helped are very grateful for the offer of the fresh milk. Several more of them pop by periodically to see if anything else needs doing if the payment for working is more food. The baked giant axchicken from the day before has already been entirely consumed, but there are still plenty of hungry people milling about the town.

He smiles and nods moving to pick a chicken and slipping the egg under her, wishing her luck as a new mom. When he comes back out he looks to Rey. I'll get started on the cops for the birds. They are rather simple and should be easy to get up today and free up your personal space. I'll get started on my own cabin tomorrow so you will also be rid of the old bird sooner rather than later. he grins.

He then checks with the farmers, expressing his own plans and asking their advice. Anyone interested can come with him to check the beehive and he'll explain the process of how it develops etc and when they can expect honey along with how mead is made and how long that will be. He wants to be open about his knowledge and intentions, showing he will share what he has when he has it and that there are no secrets.

That done, he will begin work on the cops for the birds.

At one point he will enquire about the axebeak chicken's skull and the possibility of it being made into an effective tool or weapon. Mostly making stupid conversation for entertainment, but still exploring the idea.

Marge takes her leave to do other chores. Raythan makes more small talk.

"You can stay here as long as you need, friend. How could I let the second most popular man on this island sleep out in the wild when I have all this extra room? The chickens do need to go, however."

The skull from the Axbeak is still near the fire pit where it was butchered. The locals all laugh when Liam asks for it so he can make his own drinking pitcher.

The human and the half-elf get to work on the bird houses as soon as they can.

Freeday, 6th of Goodmonth
Pounding Nails
Midday, Hot, Sunny, Muggy, Buggy

Liam and Raythan get to work building their coops and bird boxes. The work is hot and sweaty, but rather satisfying, especially to Raythan, who is happy that the stinking, loud birds wont be living inside of his home anymore.

The day passes as much progress is made. A group of farmers who were digging vegetables out of the field that Wes overgrew recently stop by during the day with armloads of chopped weeds, vines, and other vegetation.

"Hey Mr. Liam! Do you think your goats and pigs would eat this stuff? We were just going to throw it into the jungle otherwise."

Happily goes about the work, happy for the comradery he has with Rey. He is happy to move the birds one at a time to the waiting new homes and makes sure they are comfortable with plenty of thrushes strewn about and fresh water and feed.

I promise to personally scrub down the mess in your home before dinner, my friend.

When the farmers come over with the scrap greens, Liam smiles wide and looks over it all. He offers sincere thanks and mentions they are here in time for the evening milking for the goats, offering them some milk.

Raythan replies.

"I will hold you to that one, friend. And the sooner the better!"

The progress on the coops and pens continues as Liam moves the chickens from the house to their new home outside.

The helpful farmers are grateful for the small share of fresh milk. They confess that they were hoping they showed up at the right time.

Sorry, thought I had posted her before

Seeing the ship pass by, he would nudge Reythan and inquire. What of this? A supply ship? But it seems to be coming from the wrong direction. What do you know of this?
