On the topic of resting:
When characters rest for about an hour, they regain the use of all their Armor points. Also once per day, after resting, they may roll a Hit Die associated with their class and regain that many HP.
An hour strikes me as a but long, personally.
I'm enjoying TBH, and planning to start up a PbP campaign using it, too. I like that Aldus feels like a competent thief. As much as I love the early editions of D&D, the thief has always stuck in my craw, for all the reasons that so many others have complained about so extensively online.
Agreed that it is a good ruleset for online play, since it requires a little less back-and-forth to figure out the results of combat. I look forward to getting to test out some of it's other aspects!

The difference between 15 mins, 30 mins and 1 hr of in-game downtime is usually negligible (torches notwithstanding).
As I see it, Resting in "unsafe" areas is likely to get interrupted for dramatic reasons, whereas safe areas are likely to be so for much longer than an hour.
The idea of a spot that is safe for 15 mins, but not for 30, makes my head hurt.

Good point.

I didn't think about how the known success [and focus on player rolling] would make PbP run smoother but, yeah, it does.
I have only one nitpick with TBH. I know that the stats can increase to 20 and that's why David Black designed it as a 'roll under' but
equal and under is the way God and Moldvay intended.

Because the online character sheet here has armour as AC:reg/rear/no shield, I'll use it to mean AP:current/full/no shield.

In my last attack I rolled a 13 on a DEX of 14. I assumed that I hit my opponent but it occurs to me that I actually don't know. According to the rules:
POWERFUL OPPONENTS¶
For every HD above the character’s level, add +1 to every roll the player makes for any attribute test that would determine the outcome of a conflict between them and an NPC. - A level 3 character defending against a HD 5 monsters attack would add +2 to their roll.
The game seems to want to play with known HD since it focuses on player rolls but it's worth getting some clarification on how we'll manage 'powerful opponents'.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that aspect. That actually makes me like the system a bit more, since it returns some mystery to combat rolls while keeping the player engaged by doing all the rolling.

Sorry for the slow posting this week, guys, and thanks for the patience.
I'm aiming to stick to one-a-day henceforth.

No problem!
Hey, grim-faters... So what kind of rest are we discussing?
RESTING¶
When characters rest for about an hour, they regain the use of all their Armor points. Also once per day, after resting, they may roll a Hit Die associated with their class and regain that many HP.

@ crsalmon: The game and story is great, so I will wait as long as needed. Though the prospect of daily updates is very exciting.
@ mjulius: I think it is just stopping for 1 hour in any secure place that is unlikely to be intruded upon by a wandering monster. Moonslime... Ick.

@ Rusty: I thought as much but when I first brought it up it was in the context of rejuvenating some of my hit points, which Pulpatoon sort of seconded [when he referred to taking 'elevenses'].
Damn, I need some of them armors.

Should have come to the party with a captain that was dying.
Wait a minute! Quit looking at Fletch!

Cheers, I'm really enjoying running this too.
So we have one group taking a leisurely break, while (perhaps nearby?) all sorts of nonsense is happening with the other...

So it looks like our game is going dark. I get it life happens no worries but I am itching to play and I made a deal with myself to play a single game at a time. Family, work, and school prohibit anything more. I really value this little outlet and so I need to find something active.
I am starting to look around for another [preferably AD&D 1e] game. If I get into something really interesting then I will probably exit these Distant Peaks. For the record, cmrsalmon runs a tight game. I've enjoyed his world.

I agree. I've really enjoyed the world and how he tells the story. I was enjoying the mechanics as well. I'd hoped to explore them more.
If this picks up again, I'll still be here.

I know what you mean, Rusty. I feel like a bit of a tool about thinking of 'ditching' an excellent game. My worries are that if I find another game, this gets roaring again and then I am posting like a madman trying to stay on top of it all. This is my first PbP
I think that what I need is something like, "Shit got real in my life. I'm out. I'll see you kids in a few weeks." I have some games in mind but I am not going to hold off, see what happens in the next week or so.
