Bragar- If they are working with Strahd I would not trust anything that was given to us till we can identify it by someone we can trust.

I don't remember exactly what was given to us. I remember a few options.

Baxtaw- Are sure that is what she gave us? They would lose their meal ticket if Strahd dies.

What's good is the augury spell will (if successful) tell us if they are good or bad for us.

Suspecting that you could not stay hidden anywhere near Madam Eva, you return to your hidey hole.

The Gypsy talk about Strahd and Eva together makes you wonder about the Gypsy woman's intentions and loyalties. Bragar recommends not trusting the potions you bought from her until they can be tested. It's easy enough to test whether the potions are magical: a spell from Bragar confirms that they are. The next question is whether the potions are poisonous, but neither of you has the spell to test that.

Bragar- Will cast Augury as Castran plans to drink the potion. I want the spell to tell me if the potion will have negative effects on Castran drinks it.

Bragar augurs that drinking the potion now would do Castran no harm.

The gnome will take a sip and try and discern the effect

The potion is a little tangy but creamy, as if citrus and milk were involved in the brew.

Other than noting the taste, Castran detects no effect.

"You seem to be right Brsgar, we have been thoroughly duped," says the gnome with a sigh

The potion is supposed to protect you from level drain attacks. Sure enough, you haven't been level drained since you tasted it. What more proof do you want?

In other words: you know drinking the potion wasn't hazardous. You still don't know it if does what it says on the tin.

well usually taking a sip of the potion gives a magical hint as to what it does, at least according to the DMG. As Castran got nothing at all I just thought you meant it was a fake.

Fair enough. I didn't realize potions were that easy to identify in AD&D 1e. So let's say that most potions that have active effects can be identified by taste, but a potion of protection wouldn't give much of a clue.

Castran feels a slight tingle from Madam Eva's potion, but that's it.

Ok. So there is some kind of magical effect noticed? We just can't figure out what. Is that right?
