"I'm up for another outing," says Harold, "but I gotta ask: what's in it for the Church of Branwyn? If we go help clean kill Mr. Tentacles and the only thing under the tower is dirt, we'll have risked our lives just to help you clean your basement. That's the kind of thing you should be hiring people for, isn't it?"

So, there has to be something in it for you? You don't just like hanging out with us, having campfires at night and eating awesome trail rations?

Isn't the experience of doing it enough for you Harold?

I guess.....I could hire someone to do it. Kinda takes the fun out of it in my opinion.

"Don't get me wrong, you're a blast to hang out with, especially since you got your head bashed in. But there's a difference between 'Let's all go explore and split what we find!' and 'Let's all go clean my basement!' You know?"

Wendall makes a grumpy face and stares at Harold, hoping some of the others might chime in.

Ghrym chuckles from behind the bar and finds something else to do so his establishment doesn't suffer from his lack of self-control.

"I'm afraid I have to agree with our underfed friend here, Wendall" says Varas in a condescending tone. "But for different reasons. I don't see what loot that monstrosity would have. If we leave it there it will starve, and you'll have your tower back. I'd rather go get some goblin ears and take their loot! Or head back to that second tower. That's where we met Mr. M., and we get some nice gold for delivering the agreement to him."

Varas's preferences are:

1) Go to the second tower and look for Mr. M (he doesn't know about the standing stones yet)
2) Goblin woods
3) Kill the tentacled thing.

He wants no part of animal theatre to the west and will not go too far in that direction.

Olympia crosses her arms. "Well, now I would gladly assist you in your cleaning endeavors, Master Wendall," she says thoughtfully, one of the few times she's not shouting. "However, I require 30 more gold pieces to see the completion of my chapel," she adds with a sigh.

"So while my obligation to aid those in need is paramount, I have a existing obligation, do you see?" She seems regretful and concerned.

Olympia's preferences are the same as Varas' above. However, should one of the upper two be accomplished or she has paid off her chapel, Wendall's basement is her priority.

"'30 gold,'" echos Harold. "That seems a fair payment for a mission of that sort. Plus an equal share of any treasure we find, of course. I believe Branwyn would sanction my helping you for a donation of that size."

"What do you say, Landlord The Wendall?" says Harold with a grin. "Are you ready to promote yourself from the rank of Adventurer to the title Hirer of Adventurers?"

Jeez! You want me to pay you for helping me now? Are we still gonna use it for shelter one night if we go to the second tower? Maybe I should charge you all for staying there? he says sarcastically.

Ill tell you what. I will go along with the group as I've always done. he clears his throat and points to his head bandage. But, if we are close by, can we at least have a look inside to see if it's still in there?

Olympia shakes her head affirmatively. "I would not have a problem with this," she assures him.

Oh snap Wendall these priests be shaking you down!

"I the hell am Varcand, worker of wonders, and I understand that you are in search of a certain spell for the comprehension of magical writings. It happens that I possess such a spell."

Excellent! I would be happy to trade to you one of my spells. Or I could buy it from you if you so choose, if the price is reasonable of course.

"I much prefer the exchange of spell for spell, as such things are rarely offered for mere coins. Which do you offer in trade?"

Well, I have a spell to put things to Sleep, one that shoots out a bolt of energy, and another that will create a sticky mass of spiderwebs. They can all be quite fun to cast.

"Hmm. I would very much like your Sleep spell. It seems as though your companions are eager to head out. Therefore I shall wait here until you are available and we will make the exchange."

I'm about a week ahead of you, so unless you want to wait in town that long we can make the swap when our timelines converge. Unless the gods see fit to cast me backwards in time, which is not without precedent.

I could do that. To make the spell exchange would take 4 days total. So it would really be up to the other members of the wendall's party whether they want to wait around 4 more days to leave.

What is the spell copying procedure? Does it cost anything?

Olympia would agree to that. Also, it would give her the chance to be present to bless the ground-breaking of the chapel. So a common room only for 3 nights, assuming we leave on the 4th day? That would come to 1s 5cp, which Olympia has, barely.

"We have to wait four days on you, Wendall? Well, maybe I'll just go out to your new fancy tower and have a poo in it while we're waiting" taunts Varas, waving one of Wendall's keys in front of him. "Or maybe I won't. Either way, you won't know while you're locking in your room with your fancy books." Varas grins and stares at Wendall.

If Wendall is going to stay in town, we could head out to the tower and just burn the creature in the basement since there will be nobody around to complain. Dorvar grins and looks at Wendall. Otherwise, I have to say that the only good goblin is one that is dead, has an ear removed, and preferably also beheaded. However, if we are going goblin hunting, it might not be a bad idea to add a little more muscle. They seem to travel in large groups, and I feel we were lucky the last two times we met them to come through without any of us dying. Our luck won't hold forever but if we are closer in numbers we may not need to rely on luck.

The dwarf will walk over to the bar, order an ale and bring it back to his seat, looking to see if his plaque has been put up yet.

1 sp deducted for the ale.
