I think I already checked, and none in our party have detect magic.
I am fine with spartakos' division of treasure. I was thinking the ring owner would need to find a buyer and also need to negotiate on a price less than face value.

I try to provide context clues to obviate the need for constant Detect Magic use in some cases, though in some cases it might also be misdirection.

Well, it would clearly eliminate one of the major uses of Detect Magic if every magic item had a tag on it that said "enchanted".
Plus there are just old and weird things out there that don't have any usable magical properties, but remain uncanny or noteworthy.
Just trying to add some flavor, without destroying systems, is what I'm saying

Hmm, okay...well, 2 options then.
A.) Sell the ring, and use the divisions I set forth (assuming everybody thinks they're fair).
B.) Keep the ring with somebody, in case it has hidden properties. In this case, let's adjust Bertram's divisions slightly:
1) Magical Dagger & 10 gp
2) Chainmail +1 & 15 gp
3) Ruby Ring & 10 gp
4) Unidentified Potion & 55 gp & one dwarven shortsword
5) 168 gold pieces & one dwarven shortsword
6) 163 gold pieces and a raw gnot of gold. & one dwarven shortsword
I feel this gives parcel #3 a slightly higher and parcel #4 a slightly lower overall value, but it gives everybody some spending money and I feel it's fair enough. Rhodri would take any of these parcels, though I'd honestly prefer 5 or 6 at this point (could use the cash).
Oh, and for the record, Rhodri is willing to rent a suite for 1 night--after Quirin and Largo are back on their feet--so we can divvy up our loot in private; my treat. I will post in the town business thread about this.

Ok, let's get this over with. Anyone interested in parcel #1, roll a d20 here. We'll break ties with re-rolls.
Magic dagger roll [1d20] = 3
Ugh. I guess maybe I'm interested in that ring after all...

It looked to me like folks were respecting Quirin's claim to the dagger pretty implicitly...but who's to say with a roll like that!

Okay, summary of what's been discussed so far...
-Abi wants cash.
-Numen wants cash, but also expressed interest in the potion.
-Quirin wants dagger, then (in order) mail, ring, potion, cash.
-Largo wants dagger, then potion.
-Bertram actually hasn't chimed in...I think most people were assuming he'd want the mail, and nobody's contested it (mainly because of his huge brass balls in going to get it). Bertram, can you confirm that you'd want the mail, or do you have another preference?
-And Rhodri's fine with whatever...if pushed to the wall, he'd like either cash or the mail (the light weight and better AC is appealing), but like Quirin, he won't touch the mail if Bertram wants it.
Since Largo won the dicing for first dibs on the dagger, and assuming Bertram wants the mail shirt, that would mean:
-Largo gets the dagger parcel
-Bertram gets the mail parcel
-Quirin gets the ring parcel
-Numen takes either the potion parcel or a cash parcel
-Abi takes a cash parcel
-Rhodri takes the potion parcel or a cash parcel (whichever Numen doesn't want)
1.) Does this sound agreeable to everyone? Anyone want to change their preferences?
2.) Do we prefer Bertram's split or mine? Mine gives less to the ring parcel, more to the potion parcel.
3.) This only applies if we don't cash out the ring. Does that work for everybody?

1) yes
2) either way is fine
3) yes

I am fine with this! And I really could go for either the cash or potion parcels--If it's between Numen and Rhodri for those, whichever Rhodri does not want, I will accept.

Good with the split like this. Bertram is happy with the mail or with cash. I wanted to make sure there wasn't some big disagreement before I chimed in.
About the ring. Originally I had thought that the owner would need to find a buyer. Now that Keehnelf has expressed that it can simply be cashed in, I believe it should be - And the profits split among the three cash groups and the potion. However, this does not affect me, since I am taking the chainmail parcel. So I'll let the other groups talk it out.
If Rhodri, Numen, and Abi are okay with giving Quirin the ring. All is fine with me.
Bertram graciously accepts the chain mail shirt.

Abi is ok with this split. She just needs to know how much cash she is getting.

I want the ring mainly because it's more portable than a couple hundred GP in coin. So I'd prefer not to cash it in but we can if it makes for a more equitable split.
And look at the bright side - if Quirin dies in the field, looting his body is much easier!

I think we are all good with Quirin getting the ring; my first urge to sell has been tempered by the possibility that this ring might have some significance in the campaign, even if not magic powers. Maybe that dwarf it came from was a VIP, and other dwarves might recognize it?
So, the divvy is:
1) Magical Dagger & 10 gp to Largo
2) Chainmail +1 & 15 gp to Bertram
3) Ruby Ring & 10 gp to Quirin
4) Unidentified Potion & 55 gp & one dwarven shortsword to Numen
5) 168 gold pieces & one dwarven shortsword to Abi
6) 163 gold pieces and a raw gnot of gold. & one dwarven shortsword to Rhodri
If Abi would rather have #6, she can dice with Rhodri for it.
Gambling for treasure [1d20] = 20
Why the hell couldn't that have happened on the adventure!
Rhodri collects his share of the treasure, then cracks his knuckles as he stands up.
"Well, I can't say it was a pleasure working with you all, but it was profitable, and that's the next best thing. I'd wish you all good luck if I believed in it."
He turns his somber face on Bertram, and says,
"Bertram, I've decided you are cursed...but in an unusual way. You appear to lead a charmed life, but bring misfortune to those around you. Three of us almost died out there, while stirges don't so much as sniff you. I'm not blaming you--your foray put coin in my pockets, not unappreciated--but I don't think I'll go out in the field with you again. No hard feelings."
He says curt farewells to Quirin and Largo, wishing them a speedy recovery while somehow expressing doubt about it's likelihood, then says something in elvish to Numen*. As he turns to leave, he says to Abi,
"A word of advice...if you want a career as an adventuring wizard, it might be good to demonstrate to your teammates that you can actually cast spells."
No offense, folks; Rhodri's 7 Cha is showing.
* = for those who speak elvish, it's basically, "I'll talk to you later about that thing".

Can't really say much to that
April 3, 1 VC
Bertram grumbles under his breath after Rhodri leaves, something about ingrate and good riddance. But his mood doesn't stay foul for long, he has a shiny new shirt of mail and a heavier coin purse as solace for a lighter crew.
"We needed a cleric in the group anyways. I guess it's time we find one."

Numen holds his potion up to the light appreciatively. Stowing his gold and dwarven sword, he bows to the assembled group and leaves for the town center.
