Yarthmont 23, AC 1000
The adventurers finally grow tired of their bacchanals and the yearning for the thrill of danger and the cool touch of gold overcomes their inertia. A course of action is decided, one that will take them back to the Forgotten City by way of this mysterious fountain. The townsfolk are loathe to see them go, as they have become accustomed to the profligate ways of professional adventurers and the smooth words they whisper as they spend their gold.
The companions head north, past Myraal's tower and the logging camps; rather than continue along the wide Duke's Road they find the indicated game trail towards the end of the day and venture onto it. The path leads through the thickly forested hills; here and there they see signs of logging -- freshly cut stumps still bleeding sap, deep furrows cut into the ground from the dragging of logs and so forth -- though they encounter no loggers. A suitable camp is established for the night. Nothing untoward occurs.
Yarthmont 24, AC 1000
The companions break camp and continue along the trail. Just before midday, when thoughts have already begun to turn to a quick meal, they round a sharp turn in the trail and see before them, standing on a bluff just above the path, two pure white unicorns, regally staring down upon the party.

Severi Silvertongue, Elf
Severi takes off his hat and waves it in salute of the alabaster ungulates. "The horn of a unicorn is extremely valuable, but they were sacred to the ancient ones. We should let them pass unmolested."

Rhys the Traveler
Rhys steps forward, bows at the unicorns, and says, in awe, "They are majestic..."
After they move on, he says, "Lets be on our way."

Mursley, mu
Mursley will bow to the creatures as they pass by.

Unfortunately, Aquar's heart is either not pure enough or there is truth to the tales that only maids may approach them, for they turn tail and gallop gracefully back into the trees before the cleric can move three paces. The companions continue on; after another two hours of travel the hills begin to steepen into mountains. Luckily, the trail sticks mostly to valley, which makes travel somewhat easier but also brings nighttime sooner than otherwise may be expected. A likely campsite is found; shortly after midnight, however, whilst Thurgan is on watch, the doughty dwarf is caught totally by surprise when two human-like creatures stumble into their midst. They are both short -- though taller than the dwarf -- and powerful of build, with heavy features that appear to have been sculpted from granite. They are both clad in animal skins and bear heavy, smoothed branches. Both bear numerous scratches and minor wounds, although one appears to be bleeding sporadically from a head wound.

Thurgan wakes the rest of the adventurers, and together they deal with this strange visitation. The two humanoids appear to be some sort of proto-human species, for it is quickly apparent they are unable to communicate in any language known to the adventurers. The two, through dint of grunts, hand gestures and grotesquely exaggerated facial expressions are able to convey that their clan was recently attacked and almost wiped out by a force of vicious ogres.
That, or they're trying to sell you something.

Aquar, cleric
Aquar grunts, hrmuphs and moans in answer to the neanderthalic newcomers.
He then casts Detect Evil in a proto-human style.

Severi, Elf
"I believe they mean that this attack has occurred in the very recent past. Perhaps the last hour. Can we convince them to take us back toward their village? I would approve of slaying any ogres that happen to be about, in a general moral sense."
