Great question.

I am not entirely sure that there is a "range" for Turning.

I believe as long as they can see and hear you, they are in range.

So, he might have to be extra loud and obnoxious about it, but sure, go for it.

Please correct that if anyone knows better.

I have never seen an official range in the 1e books, I have always played you have to "close enough" to get communicate the message of the power of your deity

It simply means that if you make the Save, you can post an action.

Dude, don't mess with anything that even looks like a mummy at first level.

Sorry I am leaving.

I know it is a risk, but we need to try and make at least a slight difference, otherwise why did we come here at all?
Are we going back, leaving a necromancer behind, and a host of dead gnolls?
They will 'reset' in a matter of a few short days with a whole new bunch of undead, and we will have accomplished nothing, we will gain no xp, no loot, no nothing.
So when/if we come back, we are exactly the same or in fact quite worse because some of us will probably be dead, and there will be no more gnoll tribe to help us.
But the 'bad guys' will be at the same strength because we did not even do a dent.

In any case if you want to leave that is more than fair enough, of course. But could you at least fire some shots at it before I engage? Would mean no risk for you, and maybe a chance to wound it?
And leave Tammuz there to give me a hand? He is fighting for his home, so he may want a chance to fight back.
Also because when/if he recovers, I want to ask if he has the key to that door the necromancer ran through - after all, this used to be their home right?
Assuming I/we survive, of course.

I wish I could say yes:

First edition, you need a magic weapon, and that does half damage, if it were the dozen of us we could fight defensively and throw oil.

His home is gone, he has no tribe left.

I have gone in three times and received not a copper, I get you, but I would rather stay alive and not have my pieces fall off slowly.

Hmmmmmm, ok. I am hoping this is not a full blown ‘Mummy’ though. I guess we will find out.
But what risk do you take by firing a couple of arrows at it, and retreating next round?

I appreciate that you are talking this over, and I also respect any decisions either of you make in the end.

THIS is exactly the type of situation I was referring to earlier when I said I like to keep these choices challenging for the players. I personally find it extremely boring when the DM takes any real danger out of a situation by nerfing down the choices or the outcome.

Obviously this is an extremely dangerous encounter, so running away is never a bad decision if you want to live. Testing the monsters strength and looking behind the door could prove useful as well, but please remember what I said about climbing up to face the hardest enemies before the group was ready. (just in case this doesn't turn out well for you)

Also.....I don't believe I mentioned anything about the door being locked. :?

Hehe, very true :P

Also I just want to say Daliedhur was dragged into this situation by his irresponsible group members. Poor Elf trusted his companions' plan, and now he is in mortal danger...

Pim never fully trusted Bugs, but at this point it doesn't exactly matter but really who trusted that guy?

Hey gang!

I am about to head south for a little gathering known as Gary Con!!!

https://garycon.com/

I will likely be unable to check in again until early next week.

I was hoping to get an update in before I left, but Mother Nature wants to make things difficult for us today it seems.

Thanks for understanding the addiction.

Have fun! I'm not going this year- opening week of March Madness and I'm going to watch the first two rounds in Milwaukee. I'll see you and Julie at Gamehole!
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.
