Chapter 2: Regrouping After Meeting with Dashiell

After a few seconds, the clicking stops, but the line remains silent. Falstaff doesn’t speak. He never does. Headstone initiated the call, so he’s the one who has to speak first.

’’This is Headstone, glad to hear you are still working at this time.
I’m calling about setting up the second meeting with Dashiel to finalize details on the gig he wants us to play at.’’ he says getting right to business, not planning on wasting too much of Falstaff’s time.

“Null sheen, Headstone,” Falstaff’s distorted voice says. “Biz over sleep any day of the week. You know that.” Then, once Headstone spells out what he needs, Falstaff says, “An agent’s work is never done. You’ve decided on a schedule and a venue for the first stop on the tour, then? Alright, slot and run. I’ll see he gets the deets.”

’’We’re looking to play a little something to show we're in for the whole tour. Can you arrange a meet at the Comet’s Tail at 3am? It should be closed by then, but it’s your neck of the woods ain’t it? I’m sure you can simply wave your wand of the Silver Tongue and watch magic happen?'' Headstone let’s out a little chuckle despite being serious with his request.
''If they can’t swing 3 AM, their earliest convenience after that works too. Anything local in the morning would do in that case.''

“I can arrange it, null sheen,” Falstaff says. “If you're willing to slot the credstick. 250¥. Gonna have to pay Bruce a little something to keep the lights on and pay his staff after hours.”

[Juramenta]

''Of course my chummer, wiring the nuyen right now.
Fallstaff hears Headstone calling out to BB followed by ''ah drek, she's out''. A minute goes by with annoyed mumbling in the background ''I know I am sure, why keep asking me to confirm''
Eventually Headstone speaks up again.
''There, transferred, easy peasy Headstone states, clearly lying about the easy part.

Since Falstaff never uses vid, there’s not way to tell if he’s amused or not. He is certainly too professional to laugh audibly.

When the transfer goes through, Falstaff says, “I’ll be in touch to finalize the time once Dashiell confirms with me. Is there anything else I can do for you, Headstone?”

"Looks like we’re golden. Thanks for the quick reply, as always." Headstone says before ending the call.

Headstone looks around to see if either Pacman or Skye wish to respond to earlier comments. Afterward, he calls up a troll going by the name of Bullet.

Picking up his secretary, Headstone looks back both Pacman and Skye.
"I’m gonna contact Fallstaff and get this set up. After that, I’ll get the basics ready and grab the supplies needed for the kidnapping part of the run. I can finalize the rest of the plan once we get the additional intel from Simpleton. That way we can immediately move out after the meet and get this run done in under 3 days. Unless either of you wanted to lead that part of the run?" he says leaving the offer hanging, giving room for either to step up if inclined before he sets things in motion.

Right before she sends her astral self to the Needle metro station, Skye answers, "Uh, no."

Headstone calls up Bullet.

Perhaps surprisingly because Bullet is often unavailable, he answers the phone. “Bullet,” he says and then falls silent because he knows Headstone will chew him out if he starts talking before Headstone checks the line.

If his usual checks come back clean, Headstone initiates the conversation.
"Well, well, look who's free! Always there when I really need to reach you, my chummer! Guess the Drek Stars were napping on the job, or did they actually let you walk out willingly this time?" Headstone chuckles with playful sarcasm.

The line comes back clean. Bullet chuckles. “Well, they hauled me in on suspicion on account a they gotta tip, so they raided my place ’n stole a bunch a my drek which they claimed was stolen. But when they went ta show it all ta the judge, somehow, it’d all disappeared from lockup, so no evidence, no charges. I walked out the door, and I gotta wrongful arrest suit pending…”] He gives a toothy grin.

"If only I could convince you to turn runner, Bullet. You’d be a legend out there, no doubt. But hey, I’m lucky you like sticking to selling instead. I’ve got a little situation coming up, and I’m gonna need some specific gear, fast. If you don’t have it in stock, no worries, I’ll pass on the scavenger hunt. Time’s tight.

So, I need something to keep an unwilling volunteer nice and docile for a bit, without causing harm. Think bachelor party vibes than anything nasty. So no needles or anything that harms the skin. I’m thinking some solid security gear for that. I’m guessing you’ve got some in stock for practice, right?
This one’s a long shot, but I’ve got a soft spot for ‘em: those metal Mädchenfänger traps. You know the ones, locks on top so they can’t just twist ‘em off by pressing their fingers together? Five of those, one for each finger if you’ve got ‘em. If not, a couple of plasteen or metal restraints will do.

And here’s the rest of the list: a squealer that can be linked to my secretary, jackstopper, biomonitor, eight balaclavas, and a solid tranq patch. Think you can pull all that together for me?" Headstone says giving Bullet a moment to mentally run through the order.

"Biter and Tears are on their way back," she informs Headstone, Pacman, and anyone else in the room. "No drama at the station and it looks like Biter got what he was looking for. So what's the plan?"

“I done told ya before, Headstone,” Bullet says. “The shadows ain’t fer me. I wanna see my grandkids grow up.”

“I got a few things yeah” he says, nodding. “But mostly locks ’n alarms. Not really ropes ’n cuffs. I mean, if the Star already gotcha, yer already fragged. I ain’t exactly built to be Houdini ya know. ’N slippin’the cuffs just adds resistin’ arrest ’n gives ‘em an excuse ta get rough, neh?”

“Mad-chen-wha? Speak in English, chummer. Ya know I ain’t got me no schoolin’.” He chuckles. "Other 'n the school a Hard Knocks. I got me the highest honors there."

“Look, I can getcha most a that stuff, but it ain’t ’zactly my usual thing. I’ll need a bit a time.’N I ain’t one ta turn down biz or nothin’, but the clothes ’n biomonitor ’n patch is all legal-like. Ya can just pick ‘em up at the store, neh?”

"What? Yer not German? Coulda sworn you were spittin’ yer native tongue last time. Or maybe you were just so fraggin’ mad you started speakin’ in tongues!" Headstone chuckles, keeping the usual banter between the two going to stay one step ahead of Bullet’s usual ribbing.
"But hey, if ya don’t got the fancy cuffs, no worries. Anything creative works for me. You always got somethin’ clever on hand don’t ya?"

Headstone tone turns a bit more serious as he continues on answering last question.
"As for the rest, the legal stuff, I know, I know. I could hit up the store myself, but we’re on the clock, my chummer. The lucky bachelor’s gotta be at his ‘surprise party’ before sunrise. So if you can pull together the whole list before then, that’d save me some time. If you’re crunched for time, I’ll swing by the store in the mornin’ for the legal drek."
