You can fire another bullet this round. I'm looking at the equipment page and it shows a speed factor of 11, but a rate-of-fire of 1 per round. So, you can shoot once per round, but it will be a very late action in the order of events in a given round.

ok I thought 11 meant I couldn't fire this round

Epsilon weak and dry heaving misses once again

[1d20+2] = 8+2 = 10

I'll admit, even I was a little confused when I looked to check on it. We'll go with the 1/round, though, since there's really no reason it would take that long.

All the rolls are completed, I just need to type of the narrative and will have the round four action posted shortly.

Interesting round. :|

Obviously, your KFC Chicken sacrifice to the US Dice Roller gods was not sufficient. Did you forget to include mashed potatoes?

It goes in waves. There have been plenty of times where I went rounds not hitting anything with one character and then some other character nails six shots in a row. I think you've had some characters do that, as well.

Round 4

by dmw71
The swamp beasts continue to act quickly. Having recently dispatched of the last unnamed farmer, the first troglodyte (a8) turns to face Gwilt. While Gwilt is able to evade the swiping claw attacks, the beast is able to successfully sink its teeth into the ranger (-4). Revenge is sweet as Gwilt sends the foul beast crashing to the earth with a slick slash of his scimitar.

The sword-weilding (a4) creature narrowly misses Ewell with a powerful slash; one that certainly would have dealt serious damage. Ewell looks to counter but is unsuccessful. Kaltar, however, brings around his mace, catching the unsuspecting beast in the side with enough force to drop it as well. "That's how you do it my son, of course I am not suggesting it was all my own work!" he adds, smiling at his joke.

The contest between Alordan and his adversary (a4) is uneventful, with each of them exchanging ineffective blows. Theora, however, unleashes another impressive blow against the lizard beast and sends another troglodyte falling to the ground dead.

Then things begin to turn for the worse...

The next swamp beast (a3) catches Norian with a wicken slash of its claws, drawing the local into its scaly form where it chomps down on poor farmer, sinking its teeth deep into the exposed flesh and ripping off a chunk before tossing Norian's now-lifeless body aside.

On the far north side of the entangled area, the heavily wounded troglodyte (l1) engaged with Garth surprises the elf with its quickness, landing a successful claw (-2) and bite (-4) attack, sending Garth crashing to the ground motionless and bleeding.

---

Two of the previously entangled troglodytes (a5, sc1) are able to break free, with one (a5) heading south and the other (sc1) north.

Strom looks to intercept the northern-bound trog as it appeared to be heading towards Shannigans and Epsilon. The holy warrior is successful in halting the ferocious beasts intended destination, but pays the price as the newly freed swamp creature (sc1) unleashes a flury of attacks against the paladin, catching Strom with a claw (-1) and bite (-3) attack. Shannigans and Epsilon, witnessing the violent act taking place before them, are both thrown off and their ranged attacks miss their marks.

Meanwhile, the southern-bound escapee (a5) quickly joins the pair of trogolodytes (a9, l2) struggling against the olive-skinned warrior on the southern side of the battle. The original pair continue their ineffective efforts, but the new arrival (a5) manages to draw blood as it sneaks a simple claw attack past the reflexes of this fighter. The fighter just smiles menacingly at the trog that scratched him before quickly unleashing a spinning slash with his black-bladed scimitar, heavily wounding the scaly beast.

Initiative [1d10] = 8

(Crap on the initiative roll again!)

Gwillt winces in pain as the trog bites into his arm. After he finishes the scaly beast off, he spits on its corpse.

Hearing Garth cry out as he falls, Gwillt turns and immediately retaliates against the trog that took him down.

To Hit, Scimitar [1d20+4] = 16+4 = 20
Damage, Scimitar [1d8+3] = 6+3 = 9

He swings at it with a hard downward chop, almost as if he were wielding a cleaver instead of a scimitar.

Seeing Theora showing up the boys, and him in particular... Ewell decides it is time to get serious if he is to have a statue built... He attacks the most leaderly looking trog in his vacinity with some sort of accuracy, for once.

longsword to hit (+3 str bonus): [1d20+3] = 17+3 = 20 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 3+4 = 7
(so 17 to-hit and 4 damage.)

Kaltar indicates a3 to Ewell as his next target and (assuming I read the map right Dave) as Gwilt and Strom have the last remaining trogs in the immediate vicinity covered, Kaltar will CLW Garth.
If I have missed any trogs this side of the entangle:

Kaltar will move to stand by Garth in defensive posture , waiting for the coast to clear.

If CLW is cast this round:

Cure Light Wounds [1d8] = 7

Alordan pretty much drops his sword instead of redeeming himself as was his intent. Watching a comrade fall clearly insettled him.

Long sword attack (Normal;) [1d20] = 9 (THACO=20)

Long sword (Normal; +3 Str Damage) - damage [1d8+3] = 3+3 = 6. 6 - 2 str drain = 4.

Shannigans gives his ranged weapon another chance, moving enough to get a good angle to shoot at sc1 (and avoiding Strom).
shortbow thac0 21 [1d20] = 20 dmg [1d6] = 3
"There.", he says with some self-reassurance.
crit followup [1d20] = 13

(adding crit xp and arrow usage....again 8-) )

Both indicated targets are currently engaged in melee (sc1 with Strom and a3 with Alordan). Firing at either of these targets will result in potentially hitting an unintended target (e.g. party member). If you still want to continue with your stated action, consider yourself warned.

If you want to use ranged attacks, the only target that you can freely fire at without risk of hitting a fellow party member is the one still entangled -- a10.

Your rolls will still stand regardless of what action you take, but I will allow you to adjust your target if desired. In Epsilon's case, since he would miss either target, it doesn't really matter. Shannigans, however, will clearly hit any target he shots at.... I just need confirmation of action; whether sticking with your originally stated action or switching targets.

It sounds to me like this warning isn't going to come again and actions will stand as declared in the future... I'm sure our DM would be happy to provide input if anyone is unsure, if they wanted to ask before declaring an action.

Actually, I stand partially corrected. a3 is not currently engaged with Alordan (I was commenting on what was about to happen, but hasn't happened yet). sc1 was engaged with Strom last round, and continues to be.

Stonjuz, before you will be able to get off your shot, a3 will become engaged in melee... so I will freely allow you to switch your target if you want (or, you can still continue with your originally declared action). Just let me know.

Ok, a10.

Round 5

Posted: Fri May 10, 2013 3:13 am
by dmw71
The swamp beasts continue to act before the party.

Despite their decreasing numbers, the three remaining troglodytes in the northern melee continue their ruthless attacks. The first, (a3), rushes to the east in order to combat Alordan, but the ranger is able to avoid both claw attacks as well as the bite attempt. While Alordan was able to avoid the attacks coming at him, witnessing Garth fall clearly shook him and his own attempt to attack the troglodyte is unsuccessful. Theora, turns to assist Alordan but she, too, is unable to continue her string of successful attacks.

Shannigans, determined to give his short bow another shot, draws a bead on the troglodyte that became engaged with Alordan and Theora, so quickly wheels and lets loose the drawstring after taking aim at the entangled troglodyte (a10). A perfectly placed shot nearly drops the stuck beast, but it continues to stand. It remains stuck, but still standing. Epsilon had the same idea, targeting the troglodyte engaged with Strom, but also reconsiders his target and fires a shot, wide, at the safest target.

Strom continues to draw the attention of the recently freed troglodyte (sc1) but is easily able to avoid both claw attempts; the bite attempt, however, was very close and the already wounded holy warrior silently sends praise to his god. Strom, becoming increasingly frustrated with the weakness caused by the stench of these creatures, refuses to allow the countless hours of training to be negated by a foul smell. Enraged, he manages to successfully land a solid blow, slashing the foul beast standing before him. Ewell, after a quick survey of the situation, realizes the scaly beast Strom is up against (sc1) had yet to be harmed until moments earlier, is therefore the likely biggest threat. Looking to change that fact, the noble warrior does just that, sneaking his longsword past the defenses of the vile creature.

Having dropped victims with consecutive attacks, including Garth most recently, the heavily wounded lizard beast (l1) looks for its next victim and spots Gwilt. While all three attacks were close, the ranger is able to avoid any further damage. The wounded lizard isn't as fortunate, however, as Gwilt swings at it with a hard downward chop, almost as if he were wielding a cleaver instead of a scimitar, ending its life.

Kaltar, now free from immediate threat, quickly moves to the fallen form of Garth. He kneels and begins the intonations necessary to cast 'Cure Light Wounds' upon his fallen comrade; with much success, as life appears to return to Garth and the elf is obviously feeling his strength returning.

South of the stream, the olive-skinned fighter continues to battle three troglodytes on his own and manages to avoid eight attacks. The problem being, the ninth attack was very successful as the creature furthest to the warriors right (a9) is able to land a very painful bite attack drawing what you suspect are curses in an unfamiliar language: "'u thaho nuzr ro ahnr?" he shouts. An instant later, the confident berzerker attempts another wild, spinning attack with his black-bladed scimitar but misses wildly, appearing to slip on the blood of the previously decapitated troglodyte, which results in another curse: "Nrag phannho aoht grhahh po 'uh phahhur!"
