If possible Rida will hood the lantern. Then he will work his way towards where he thinks the campfire is.

Haldric whispers caution, "careful, could be those damn bandits.."

Loyn-Dwarf Fighter

Loyn readies his battle axe as he watches and listens for anything sneaksing up from behind the group.

Keya takes out his halberd, and puts his stringed big across his back.

Quietly. "Find a buddy and make a line, we dont want anyone snraking behind before we move up."

Keya moves towards Bugs and moves to one side of the line.

"Maybe someone who can see in the dark should walk a different path", whispers Gyb. "So all of us are not in one line for a single arrow. "

Cloudy, Evening

Keya seems confused, pointing out a campfire that none of the others can see, despite the smell of smoke on the air.

While Rida tries to shield his lantern, he points it downwards, where the Ranger spots several prints in the dirt at the edge of the tree line.
Clearly not human, the ranger has never seen these exact prints before, but can attribute them to something between a man and a canine. The elf calls for a line to be formed so nothing can get past them, despite the vast wide open wilderness beyond their position.

Gyb suggests they don't all stand in a single file bowshot line, also wondering if now would be a good time for the non-humans to take a look around them to check for heat signatures in the nearby darkness.

As they are about to step into the trees, a voice shouts out from directly in front of the group before being stifled by a loud smack.

"HEY! Peppy? Is that you? These bastards got me tied up in....." Whack!

A muffled silence follows.......

The Gnome quickly darts to the side to spread out and get behind a tree (forward if needed), peeking out in the darkness towards the voice. His hands find his daggers and he readies himself.

Bugs motions for the others to spread out and points to his eyes, then back towards the voice.

Rida

Rida hands the lantern off to Gyb. Whispering, "Take this I need both hands free for this."

He then pulls his crossbow up and readies to shoot, moving forward towards the whack noise, from tree to tree until he spots a target.

GM, can I get a size by the size of the print.

Keya shakes his head and points at the voice while running for behind a tree, looking to go down one side or another, but trying to keep his bussies nearby.

Haldric readies his hammer. "They don't sound friendly to me. Maybe it's time to teach these folks some manners..."

He follows Bugs’s lead crouching down behind a tree trying to pinpoint where the muffled voice came from and if it’s dark enough to see a heat source with his keen eyes.

Sorry. Life's a bit hectic right now. My students are taking their exam in 8 days. I'm reading these posts in the evenings and forgetting to post my actions the next day.

Gyb is simultaneously grateful for having a light to see by, and also conscious of being an obvious target. He moves forward with the others, though slightly behind. His aim is to try and shed light on the scene ahead without backlighting any of his companions and making them an easy target.

Arming themselves for eventual danger, Gyb takes over the lantern while Rida readies his crossbow.

Getting themselves positioned behind trees, the group tries to see into the forest, looking for the voice they heard, but......its still dark outside.

There is no sign of the campfire, though the smell of burning wood can still be picked up on the air. There is nothing to see up ahead but branches and leaves.

Loyn tries to use his infravision, but the light from the lantern is still preventing anyone from seeing heat sources in the distance.

Eventually a different voice can be heard coming from somewhere in front of you, this one more gruff and wild. It doesn't appear that common is his first language.

"You!"

"Fish!"

"Man!"
