Calista thinks about the name and the description for a moment.
"I'm sorry dear. I don't remember that name. But we get a lot of people through here in a year's time, so I'm not surprised."
She aks Wilf and Jess, the name not ringing a bell with them either.
"Did you check if his name was in Sabine's log books? That's where I would start."

Magdal enters the tavern hesitantly, then catching sight of the proprietor, or at least the one she thinks is the proprietor. She shyly moves to stand before Calista,
"Ma'am, if you've a moment, I'm looking to see if Hugo Haldeene might have been here around a year back." She then describes him briefly and waits for a response.
Afterwards she will take a seat and spend her last few silvers on food and drink (non-alcoholic) as well as a spot to sleep, knowing she couldn't afford a room to herself. When Renna approaches her, she replies,
"I'd love to join you folk, as that is where I intend to head come morning."
Renna
"Magdal, we are heading the Caves of Unknown in the morning - we will be leaving at just after first light. We hope you are coming with us. There's hope in the Unknown and hope in what may be, hope in the promises of tomorrow, and hope in all we cannot yet see."

He looks at Jess and nods. "That makes sense, you can't be more than twenty. I myself haven't been here for close to thirty years." Bugs smiles as he remembers the gnomlings he saw on his way in. "Say, maybe you can help me."
Bugs motions for her to lean in and conspire with him. "I've mentioned someone's name a few times and each time people got upset. Maybe you can help me understand why. Lord Wledig. What happened to him?"

Jess nods.
“Oh, ya. He was the Lord here, before my time though, so I never met him. He was the guy who had this place built, and trained his soldiers here. He was a well known warrior, I guess, with followers and everything. But they all rode off to war in the north, many years ago now. Not one of ‘em ever came back, either.”
“The old timers around here still talk about the friends they lost all those years ago.”

"Oh. OOH! Wow, ok. Thanks, I see why people were touchy." Bugs nods a few times and then speaks again. "Wait. Everyone? Even Devereau? Man, that guy was great. Good shot too."
"Is there a memorial around somewhere? I'd like to pay my respects."
Bugs tries to engage the few traveling companions who didn't bolt for the store when he sat down. "So what's the plan? People itching to go caving? I thought I caught wind of two groups?"

Renna's offer for a bed in their room and thanks her accordingly.
She's pretty much set regarding adventuring gear.
With that she approaches
Jess at a suitable opportunity.
"Good day to you, and thank you for allowing me access to your establishment. I would like to ask you if you have any information regarding the "mad hermit" that settled in the forests north of this keep some twenty years ago? Or if you would happen to know who might?"

The hungry Half-Orc tucks under when his food arrives, trying not to eat like a brute, but rather to eat slowly and neatly like his father taught him. He listens to the others as he eats, not really wanting to join in their conversations. He glances at Magdal occasionally; she sure is pretty.

“You’re an elf, right? Because 20 years ago was before I was born.” She smiles and winks.
“And if your hermit was along in years, he is likely dead by now. I know human age is tricky for your kind, but did you think of that?”

Magdal spends the 1 silver for the modest stew and asks for glass of water to go with it, offering another silver for it if required. In any case, she will also spend a silver for a spot to sleep in the common room. In response to Calista's suggestion she says, "Yes, I've already checked with Sabine and her logs. He was here but left for the caves."
Taking a seat beside Renna as she eats her meal, she remarks, "Caves of the Unknown it is. Sounds like you have a lot of hope surrounding you Renna, and hope is a good thing, so yes I'll accompany you, if you can put up with my inexperience. I've never been outside of Longspear before so this is all new to me." She notes Dredd's glances her way and turns to Renna, "Do I have dirt on my face or some of the stew stuck to my teeth? Dredd keeps looking my way like a calf looking at a new fence."

After dropping his equipment in the room (that Renna rented), the priest returns to the tavern. Prepared as he can be for the next day, he spends the rest of this day enjoying the warmth of the fire, the food and the drink (within moderation). During his years of travelling he has learned to appreciate such things when they are available.

Haldric enjoys the meal, likely the last hot good meal in some days to come, says a quite prayer for good fortune under the mountain, and signals his readiness to make way to the infamous Caverns of Chaos.

Gyb, in his new boots, arrives back at the tavern. "Gyb will sleep on the floor, please. Floors are uncomfortable. But more comfortable than some places. Like bushes and ditches. And ale makes the floor softer. A pitcher please!" He hands over six silver.
Gyb sups his ale before bedding down for the night. "Snoring? After so much ale, Gyb doesn't care". He yawns and pulls the thin blanket over his head.

At some point in the night, Jess approaches Sylla again.
"Hi. It's me again. Since it seems you are somewhat in charge, I just wanted to remind you that I do a little freelance work on the side myself. Not in here, but just keep me in mind if you ever need someone." She rolls a coin between her fingers and smiles.
