Saul is bursting with joy, not only at being called a scout instead of what most people call him, a thief, but watching kids play out his and his friends' adventures is nice to say the least, enough to make him forget about having his mind muddled by an amulet.

As soon as he gets a chance he turns to his friends: "So, we brought our original mission to an end, even if a sad one, we were rewarded for it and we got to celebrate with all of our members... in all senses of the word. We even managed to pick up some new companions. I'd say we make a good team. What are we going to do now?"

Thordin the dwarf

"Gah, they got my name wrong! Thoradin indeed. That is my uncles' name! Hear that, Uncle Gabby?! You are a hero! Slew a fyrewyrm, you did!"

Thordin is all about going to kill orcs or ogres, or pretty much anything else.

Bregalad the elf

Bregalad sees this as a good time to retell Quinthos' story to the others. "Well, there is a elf named Quinthos, here in Threshold and looking for aid. His people's livelihood is threatened by ogres, who raid caravans destined for their village. I am hoping that we can help rid their village of this monstrous threat, but we must decide fairly soon. We last spoke to the elf at the Green Lady tavern."

"And..." continues the elf, looking to both Saul and Thordin, "...the ogres are reported to have money, lot's of it."

Lanny asks about in hopes of getting directions to Myraal's tower. Finally, a young lout tells him, "Why don't you ask him yourself? He's right over there," and points to a portly man with muttonchop whiskers, holding a flagon of ale in one hand and a buxom maid in another. Both appear to be fairly inebriated. "If you're looking to arrange a meeting with him you might want to wait a bit for him to sober up -- like 'til the middle of next week!"
Lanny takes one look at the inebriated Guild Mage. "Perhaps now is not the best time to try to introduce ourselves to him... He may not even remember our names by tomorrow! Besides, it looks like he has his hands full at the moment... I'll try to find him later on."

If time permits after the recognition ceremony, Lanny will try to seek out Myraal, as well as the winner of the archery contest, to be able to meet them and talk to them.

As the group follows along Varis briefs them on what he knows. "We are still questioning the captives. It does not appear they know much, though the one is an initiate in worship of the demon Leptar. Still, they seem to have been kept in the dark as far as Elwyn is concerned." He pauses, and surveys the companions. "The Baron will introduce you to the crowd and publicly thank you for returning Aleena's body. He will also announce a reward -- substantial, at that -- for Bargle's capture. We have spoke and decided not to mention Elwyn. We believe there is a chance the apostate is unaware of what has occured, and to link the two would but cause alarm. I have contacted the temple in Kelven, and they are sending out a scouting expedition to seek this redoubt, and to attempt to ascertain the truth of what is transpiring. I expect to hear from them within the month."
Lanny nods his head in agreement with Fr. Varis. "The leader of the group told us that he was hired by Elwyn in Penhaligon. The other five are presumably from Penhaligon as well. I wonder if there is a temple to Leptar operating somewhere in or around that city, where Elwyn might have met them and recruited them. It stands to reason that the redoubt might be near Penhaligon as well. One thing is certain - Elwyn will grow more and more suspicious as more and more time passes without the arrival of his recruits and the treasure chest."

The companions are ushered behind the stands and introduced to the Baron Sherlane Halaran. He is a powerful man in his late sixties, with a shock of silver hair and an aquiline nose. He bows deeply and expressed his gratitude for all that the adventurers did before bounding on stage and addressing the crowd.

"My friends and fellow citizens, it is with great joy in my heart that I welcome the annual gnomish caravan on their journey south. Every year the caravan's arrival is a harbinger of spring, of new life, yet this year it comes at a time of death. For those unaware, my niece Aleena Halaran, a priestess of our church and one of the leading lights of this region, was killed recently. Slain in cold blood by the malingering, murderous mage known as Bargle the Infamous! I have consulted with the Duke, and we have agreed that Bargle is now officially a wanted man in the Duchy, with a price of ten thousand gold pieces on his head! Be aware, however, that he is a powerful wizard and should be approached with caution."

He pauses to let this sink in to the assembled crowd. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank those responsible to returning Aleena's body to us for proper burial. Let them join me on stage as I call their names, so that they may be acknowledged as heroes! Bregalad of the Vyalia! Drudsa the Dabbler! Grey Jake and Saul, scouts extraordinaire! Lantharos of the Calarii! Meagnor of the Calarii! Tratiln of the Calarii! Marodin, a cleric of this church! And finally, Thoradin Grymsson, doughty dwarf!" The crowd erupts in thunderous applause.

Afterwards, the companions become aware that the townspeople seem to view them in a new light. Men tip their hats in respect. Women blush upon meeting their gaze. Small children follow in their wake, playing with sticks for swords and each pretending to be their favorite hero. "I'll be Lanny this time, and you be Thoradin, slicing the head of the flaming serpent!"
Lanny is pleased and honored to meet the Baron in person for the first time.

"Baron Halaran, I am deeply sorry for your loss, and for Threshold's loss... Like you, Aleena was well regarded by the people of this town and of this region. Bargle will pay for his crimes soon enough... Perhaps we shall be the ones to bring him to justice!"

Lanny feels an enormous sense of pride and accomplishment as the Baron calls out the individual names of the party members. While not comfortable in the spotlight at first, Lanny quickly realizes that this is the necessary first step on the road to becoming great heroes and legends for the ages...

Tratiln will take a deep bow after the Baron's speech. We are truly humbled to be able to help such a great people as those of Threshold. Let it be known we will not rest until Bargle is brought to justice.

Afterwards, Tratiln will continue to prusue the carnival though he is excited to get back to the inn so he can begin to study his next texts and maps. As he departs from the rest of the party, he will suggest, We should briefly meet up at the inn tonight to lay out a plan of what to do next.

Drudsa the dabbler tries to remain in the background while the baron speaks as all the attention and exposure makes him very anxious and uncomfortable.

After the speech he says to the team

"I will go back to the inn now, I think the day has been more intense than I expected. Let us reconvene as suggested by Tratiln, there are plenty of opportunities for us to explore and we should try to judge them all carefully."

Meagnor the Elf fells a little uncomfortable with all the praising, specially because he was not with his companions when they found the dead lady's body. But as time passes he starts to get used and to feel proud of being part of such a valuable party. Meagnor is also puzzled by the interested looks of the town women as he grows more fond of the strange, exotic beauty of human females.

After thanking to the Baron: "Lord, this was a gesture of great generosity that we cannot thank enough. We hope to be of more service in the future and assure that no more evil comes from the wicked Bargle's hands." Meagnor will come back to the inn, hopefully finding his friends there to discuss what they should do next. His heart is with the northern elves, suffering with the ogre raids, but after the speech he feels more attached to Threshold and the mission of finding and defeating Bargle.

Grey Jake likes the veneer of respectability he has gained.

"This adventuring business is a great idea. Now let's finish exploring those caves, then we can decide what to do next. It's fine and good to want to help the elves, but we can't do everything at once".

The adventurers return to their inn after spending the day at the festival to find Quinthos the elf awaiting them. "Have you made a decision yet?", he asks, wringing his hands together anxiously.
I went ahead and posted this to set the scene for dealing with him. Answer whenever you come to a consensus. You guys are welcome to do whatever you want; at this point it sounds like exploring Aleena's cave is edging out the ogres. However, please keep in mind that the Quinthos hook will not wait around much longer; at some point in the near future he's going to go off to find help elsewhere. And that's cool with me, if that's what you decide.

Oops, I completely forgot to respond to the Baron honoring our party! That was rude. Sorry. Quinthos' village had been occupying the elf's mind these last couple days.
Bregalad bows before the Baron. "It was an honor aiding Threshold and the church, my lord. Our only regret was not being able to save Lady Aleena."

Before he takes his leave of Varis, Marodin, the Cleric, will ask the priest if he can recommend a young lad or lass from the Church who has a taste for adventure and would be willing to accompany Marodin and learn more about spreading the word of the Immortals with him.

The priest considers Marodin's request. "Let me think on it, my friend. Perhaps there is some young lad or lass that would prosper in an environment other than the temple."

Later that Evening

The companions ask around about some of the rumors they had originally heard. Other than the merchant Sindar finding someone to deliver his package it seems as if all the jobs are still available.
Shit, I keep meaning to do thise but haven't gotten around to it yet. I remember someone had asked about checking into some of the old plot hooks. Essentially, every plot hook I have given you guys has a 10% non-cumulative chance per day of being taken care of by some other party. I start this a week after play begins, so am making three rolls for each (for the 8th-10th).
Old Mill: (1d100=34, 1d100=75, 1d100=76)
The Beast: (1d100=57, 1d100=67, 1d100=93)
Vanishing Townspeople: (1d100=79, 1d100=96, 1d100=79)
Caldwell's Castle: (1d100=26, 1d100=37, 1d100=62)
Package for Sindar: (1d00=1, 1d00=1, 1d00=1). Huh. What are the chances of that?
Evil Caves: (1d100=83, 1d100=20, 1d100=47)

I hope everyone considers the following to be a fair reading of the 4/3/2 vote breakdown. I tried!
"Quinthos, my friends and I may be able to help you with your plight, but there is something that you must know first. When we met on the trail two nights ago, I told you that my comrades and I were on patrol for goblins in the area... goblins that were attacking trade caravans containing elves. That story was true... from a certain point of view. You see Quinthos, it was MY trade caravan that was attacked by goblins, and I was taken captive by the goblins and was awaiting sacrifice at the hands of a troll before my companions found me and saved my life. This all occurred in some caves not far from where you and I met on the trail. We have unfinished business there, and, as you may know if you attended the festival, it is all a part of a greater mission that we have pursued with the blessing of the Baron Halaran himself. This mission remains our top priority, but if you would like to accompany us to the caves and permit us time to complete our business, then we will promise to continue on with you to help you with your plight. Knowing all of this, if you choose not to accept our offer, we could at least offer you financial assistance to hire some help instead. The decision is yours..."

Tratiln pats Quinthos on the back, I know you fear for your village and we will help them. I know elf blood is strong and your family and friends are holding out just fine. We will make those orges pay for what they've done and get your village back on their feet again.

Before heading to his room, Tratiln will turn to Lanny, "Lanny, I know you were interested in this map as well and as I will be busy studying other things in the nights to come, please feel free to look over the map I bought in the meantime.

After the party retires to their rooms for the night, Tratiln will memorize Read Magic in order start looking over the spellbook in the morning.
@tk - will one Read Magic cover the whole spellbook? Or just one spell? Will Read Magic be needed for the scroll as well? I might have missed it but how long will it take to scribe spells into the book? I had Tratiln buy all the supplies at carnival. Also, I think I missed it, but elves get to chose 1 elf specific spell correct? I messed up and never had Tratiln do that and take spore cloud

Lanny the elf

Lanny rises early in the morning, preparing Read Magic to study his scroll and also studying the overland terrain map that Tratiln gave him. He greets Quinthos at the inn.

"Good morning my friend! It looks like we will be travelling across the mountains to get to your village. How is the weather and terrain through those parts? By the way, Quinthos, is your village in Darokin? Or perhaps beyond that, in the elven kingdom of Alfheim?"

Lanny will spend the morning purchasing some mountaineering and camping gear, including a bedroll and tent, and other mundane equipment in preparation for the long trip.

Afterwards, if he is not needed by the party, he will wander around the festival area in search of Myraal (hopefully less drunk today) and will make a visit to the Guild Library if necessary. He seeks some literature about the Grand Duchy and its people, as well as information about his magic arrows and the history of the Traladaran people.
I checked our mountaineering/camping gear - it looks like we have a grappling hook, a couple of hammers, some spikes, and 6 coils of rope between us, so I think we are ok in that department.

Tratiln will first go get his armor and stock up on some supplies - 2 weeks of iron rations, a bedroll, restock his torches and tinder box (if need be) and then spend time in his room reading the spell book after casting Read Magic (and being quiet in doing so). He hopes to get at least one of the spells (if not all of them) into his spellbook today.
