Androgost

Looking toward the sky: Fascinating... and deadly, maybe we are seeing what keeps the giants in check. I agree with Garrant, let's halt observe for a bit, use lunch as an excuse.

Hard to tell from here what they are other than big.

Androgost will look about for a suitable location w/ cover to break for lunch.

Point of clarification, it is about 3:30-4:00 PM in the afternoon. Much closer to the end of the travelling day than lunch. Of course there nothing stopping you from a second lunch.

Raffi’s ears pick up at the mention of a second lunch!

Qleceec

Does ahead on the trail look thicker forest or thinner? If it is thicker she will suggest pushing forward to make camp with better sky coverage. Otherwise she will start looking for a camp close by.

In the short term, it is much of the same.

There are definitely trees, but it is not thick or total coverage. With your long train of horses if you are travelling there would always be several of the horse visible from the air. Best case 2-3 horses would be visible and worst case 2-3 horses would not be visible.

Qleceec

"Lets keep moving and I will start looking for a camp spot for the night. First spot that looks good we can take and set up and dinner going. I don't like our situation against aerial foes here but we will have to make due. Maybe the illusion will help with that."

Understood Qleceec, lead on.

Boff strains his neck watching for threats from above as they continue forward, seeking a suitable camp location for the night.

In the Jotens
Late Afternoon Starday, 8th day of Planting, 597
3rd day since leaving Loftwick

Qleceec (AC 1, HP 63/63)
Androgost (AC -6, HP 65/65)
Nah (AC 4, HP 53/53)
Siouxsie (AC 2, HP 48/48)
Garrant (AC 8, HP 50/50)
Boff (AC 5, HP 61/61)
Franny (AC 4, HP 26/26)
Hex (AC 0, HP 27/27)
Raffi (AC -1, HP 21/21)

The party is able to get started without any trouble. Everyone is focused on the skies for signs of movement. A short time after you have restarted, you can all smell that the air has picked up more moisture and it is clear to Siouxsie that there must be more water nearby. Most of you (everyone but Siouxsie ) start to see occasional glints of a yellow-brown light coming from both sides of the trail (although about twice as many from the west side than the east side). The normal sounds of the forest (bugs and avian) continue to be heard.

Actions?

Qleceec

Qleceec halts and signals back to stop. She readies her bow and waits to see what is coming.

Nah Olos dismounts and watches the woods, bastard sword in hand.

Hex calls out in a soft but clear voice. “Those glints look very familiar. Almost like the sun’s light reflecting off of gem stones! Who would be putting gems along the trailway?”

Boff nods his head at the gnomes remarks. "Agreed master Hex. I'd say topaz, by the looks of em."

He makes sure everyone in the group is aware of the strange anomaly, especially Franny.

"Though I cant actually say what it might be. Strange insects? Elvish decorations? Dragon scales?" He shudders at his last guess, moving off the trail on the east side to attempt a closer look from horseback.

Garrant stops his horse and looks around, alert.

"Insects, maybe. If so there are a large number. If there is water nearby that is more likely, dragonflies or something of that ilk perhaps."

Androgost

Already in the most comfortable place he count be, Androgost stays mounted but brings his lance to a relaxed ready state. He tries to recall any Elvish similar activities from his past.... tries to penetrate any illusion. The question is: did this appear due to our presence or is it always like this?

Qleceec gets her bow ready, Nah dismounts with his bastard sword in hand and Androgost continues to hold his lance. Qleceec and Androgost have a conversation about how long these have been here and what caused them. Meanwhile, Hex and Boff have a conversation about gemstones, topaz gemstones in particular. Boff rides up to the nearest glint and discovered is a very small uncut topaz gemstone hanging in the woods. The "string" that it is hanging from is very thin and almost appears moist. Since you have an appraisal skill the gemstone is only worth a few gold pieces.

Assuming that Boff would share this with the rest of the group, when you know what to look for, there perhaps 10 more of these from your current position to 60 feet in front of you which is about all you can see with the twists in the path. When the sun does not catch them they blend in with the wood of the trees.

Suddenly, there is a loud thud (perhaps a tree falling?) about 60ish feet in front of Qleceec and voice is in a rough common says from that same general area "FOESS ORSS ALLYSS. THISS LANDSS OFSS PREBLSHIENCHIASHAV"

Qleceec

Just loud enough for Androgost to hear, "Negotiations are your area of specialty I think."

Louder for whoever spoke, "Show yourself and we can talk."

Hex moves closer to Raffi’s pony and takes the reigns, nodding to the thief to slip into the bushes at the side of the road.

The halfling nods and once his Mount is secured he slides off and disappears off the road, quietly drawing his shortsword but not yet his dagger, as he doesn’t want to give away his position with its enchanted light.

Siouxsie

Listens to the 'thump', a heavy tread up the ground. It sends a shiver in her spine. She listens too, hearing the voice introduce himself and faintly recognises some draconic linguistic grammar.

PREBLSHIENCHIASHAV ""It is a taken title or Name, meaning 'One who is princely born'."

She prods her horse a few yards forward, she has no need to translate if the voice continues in Common tongue but to create a better impression she speaks up using her Green Dragon vocabulary.

"Your grove reflects one born to princehood. Glinting threads of silk and crystals that reflect your own glory as well as the sun.

We are envoys. Allies to all who live in peace, to those Princely Born and to lowly commoners such as I. We endeavour upon a noble quest to see what shakes the earth.

My lord here is Sir Androgost, Knight of the Steelhearts."

Figuring to introduce the charismatic cavalier to explain our intrusion into his domain.
