Mave

Mave frowns as Torvik reads note. She says, "So do you think Tallow organized this? If so, can we trust Davion and for that matter Locke?" She looks in the chest, "Gold and potions. We can use both, though what the rat-king needed the gold for, is beyond me." She leans down and examines one of the gold pieces before dropping it back onto its stack. She then moves to the splintered door, bow ready.

Torvik despite the turn of events half smiles and briefly chuckles hearing his nickname for the giant ratman to have stuck. "Aye, does question just who we can trust round these parts."

Thena

Nods as Mave and Torvik speaks. Slinging her mace she places the lamp between herself and the rest of the group, with the light extending toward the group and leaving her dimmed. Not making a scene, all natural, she will withdraw a scroll. Let is see if there are any secret doors in this chamber. Reading from the scroll:

Guiding light, channel through me and give vision of intention, intention of will. Let the inner light of those around me be shown!

Thena casts detect evil from the scroll, deducted.

Mave examines the coins and finds them to be nearly brand new. They bear the imprint of King Alaric Aislan, the current king and they appear to have been unused as if newly minted. She shrugs, relaying the information to those in the room, uncertain in its meaning. She takes a position before the unopened door, no sound beyond it is heard and no light is emitted from behind it. Only darkness beyond the hole in the lower portion.

Thena decides to test the mettle of her companions casting her Detect Evil spell. And she senses no evil, at least not within the range of the spell.

"That is not good, those coins most likely came from someone with access to the royal mint. In other words someone powerful at the kings court most likely."

Thena

Smiles with the results of her spell. Considering Davion and Locke joined us here Mr. Tallow likely sees them as expendable. They have my trust.

Regarding the coins: Maybe to undermine the economy or pass as an indication of support that is untrue to another kingdom? Something odd....

Picking up her lantern, and moving toward the door: Shall we?

Bryne moves over to the door and readies herself to be the first one through.

Mave

Arches a brow as Bryne mentions the King's mint. All roads lead back to the king it seems. She pushes those thoughts away as she concentrates on the room ahead, bow at the ready.

Bryne cautiously moves to the door and pushes it open. There is no lock and the door opens easily, though the stench coming from inside the room is nearly overwhelming, stinking of rotting meat and offal. There are no living occupants of the room, though many bones litter the floor and in one corner, the decaying remains of two men. Most of them have been eaten away, though most of the heads are untouched and their unseeing eyes look in your direction, their faces frozen in fear and terror. The room, some sort of larder, reeks like a charnel house and is otherwise empty.

From above, Liviel calls down, "Is everything alright down there? We're beginning to worry."

OCC: Were Liviel and Davion present and in range of the detect evil spell? They were the intended target. I thought they were with the rest of us. If not, from the casting the spell should last 11 minutes, does she have time to get back to them?

Thena had moved within the range of the spell so those above would have been within its casting area. So she is relieved none of her companions are suspect. The larder can be searched easily enough but what diseases might lie in the remains and rat offal preys upon your minds.

Kade calls down from above, "What ever was pounding on the door has stopped commander."

Agreed, can the door be spiked? The room is effectively a morgue, a evil priest or necromancer would find the raw materials a useful resource while raising the dead.

Should we investigate the doors above?

Mave

Looks into the larder with disgust, "I'm not going to search that place. How about we try to jam the chest into that opening at the bottom? That might hold it shut. I'm all for moving on with the doors upstairs. We know undead are behind one door. Should we deal with them before opening the other?"

I favour engaging the foes we know about. Those that tried to force the door will return, we ought to destroy them first.
