Um... if Collace were to be described as a lawless "Gravitocracy" you can see just where you're situated.
So - The Black Hole of....Collace?

Those that go in never come out?

That kind of "Gravitocracy"?

Perhaps a chat with Kit as I locate a suitable abode. Somewhere in need of Gentrification. OK - per the picture It all needs gentrifying. Somewhere with a sound structure; space for a fortified lobby; and limited external grab-holds for the more enterprising visitor? A plaza (or similar) 10 stories below to land on would also be useful in case I need to leave via rope.

I wondering if one needs Diplomacy, Streetwise and/or Survival skill just to live in these ghettos?

How much did we get paid? How much per dTon to buy/rent an apartment?

I'm not sure exactly where the officers are living. I can imagine we left the Penthouse free for visitors and used the smaller floors below. I can only assume that the Penthouse would have been in the best condition of all the accommodation when we arrived (that might not be saying much).
You (deep) cleaned everything. The Penthouse was occupied by Lt Colonel “Flash” Harry Havelock who had turned it into something of a "midden" in the course of his various addictions. Whatever happened to him? (After the Aslan "tough love" just let him go cold turkey  Erica arranged some counselling and a plan to get him clean. [She is psych qualified and specialises in (military) PTSD counselling]). The SEMC officers are now occupying the 1188th SNCOs billets which were certainly generous if not quite luxurious.

Either way, I think we give them the Penthouse, and if we have to - move the officers to the lower floors. And then get someone in to do a deep clean and also do an assessment to see what we have time to 'do up' before they arrive. I think we also need to arrange a fancy for when they arrive (caterers?), plus fruit baskets in room, etc :)
You did this. Some "persons unknown" had made a right mess house clearing on various floors. So the living quarters were restored and you got in crime scene cleaners for the "hospital/jail" floor and pest control then industrial steam cleaners for the drug labs and the junkies' "shooting gallery" decks.

Do they drink alcohol? We might want to freshen up the Penthouse bar stocks.
Zhodani drink alcohol. Might want to ask the QSM. Her cavalry troop haven't been short of uncharacteristically classy booze of late. They are also oddly individually blingin' to the tune of incongruously top brand watches, jewelery and other "gear". As to the bar you had to re-build it (see firefight). There were bedrooms off the bar if you recall - another job for the crime scene/industrial cleaners!

Sounds like they have the hanger!
It seems they don't object to hangin' in the hanger.
Could you do dinner there? Easy to secure and go trestle tables but super posh on top?

And does Liv know anything about the Ambassador? Or can find out. It would be good if we could serve up one of his favourite foods or drink.
Liv reports there's nothing known apart from confirming that he is the real deal.

Is there enough space for dinner in the penthouse? I suppose it us a little exposed with lots of glass. Is it bullet proof? Raises a question whether they'd be safer on the lower floors.

Let's get Jess to free up some of the good booze and then see what else we might want.

What do the rest of you think?

I'd opt for a lower floor. The penthouse has a view of the water - and of the downspire part of the arcology. Neither is impressive enough to warrant the security risk.

You are aware that the Penthouse is within rifle range of the arcology wall. However, it does have the equivalent of armoured windows (due to weather and atmospheric proofing. If you elected to use the "sea view" side for security reasons you could use it for dining and it is adjacent (one floor up) from the newly refurbished bar).

Freya should check out the area around Polly's Aslan clan. It's been gentrified and strangely the criminals have left.

Er... Gun Cbt and/or Brawling in the rough bits. However, being attached to the "nails" local Mercs serves well enough here and also no one gets any gang trouble in the "Green Zone".

How much did we get paid? How much per dTon to buy/rent an apartment?

Without delving into hard maths your "all found" officer's wages will easily cover renting an apartment or to better aid the "gentrification crusade" there's something very "industrial chic" like a warehouse/loft (these have better security). If you want to actually own an empty one 10KCr will do it. This covers legal and paperwork. Getting a fire team to kick the front door in, sweep the place and evict anyone doing unseemly practices therein just costs you some beers.

Real estate (commercial) is both on the up and currently dirt cheap. You can pick between overlooking the Green Zone plaza or a "sea view / grav entry" place set in the (outside) arcology wall.

True! That's mid spire business district which is notionally safer (but still has gang coverage outside the Aslan bits). Cultural amenity abounds but prices are also extreme 100KCr to buy and a stretch for rent (but your pay will cover it). The Soldier of Fortune would be your local but it's a commute Down spire to work.

Jess has a room in the officers quarters, but, as usual, also a lair on the garage deck - an office and storeroom with added creature comforts beside her personal collection of vehicles (a motorbike, dune buggy and, now, a flashy muscle car). She doesn't socialise in the surrounding underspire much - it might inhibit the trooper's fun - but she drives through it, quite fast.

I'd opt for a lower floor. The penthouse has a view of the water - and of the downspire part of the arcology. Neither is impressive enough to warrant the security risk.

I think the reception - for the whole crew - works best in the hangar. Secure, reduces the number of guests travelling through the installation, plenty of room.

I see the downside of putting the Ambassador in the penthouse, but it is our most impressive accommodation. The previous Colonel thought it secure enough - we just have to remember to lock the French windows. Putting them in part of our own quarters deck has a different security implication, and might look inhospitable.

Perhaps we should offer a choice, with reasons (i.e. you can have the "view", but others will look back.).

Jess will, reluctantly, produce a selection of prestige-brand spirits and some tins of caviar (t'be honest, I'm not that fussed about the fishy balls. Though they do pop nicely between yer teeth, that's fun.).

For wine/champagne and food she will rely on her network of catering suppliers, making a large enough purchase of alcohol to stock the mess against future need (it's only practical, there's a discount on bulk orders and good wine gets better over time ;) )

All sounds good to me.

Offering a choice makes sense "We've prepared the Penthouse for you, but if you want something more..."

While you cogitate and ponder I'm just updating The Plot: As it seems... I condensed 18 pages of 60 last night and then, in a genius move beyond all human comprehension managed to lose the lot! :SAN:

I'll try and actually get a chunk up tonight as having a review of recent events to hand may be useful.

We should certainly promote Kit to captain. Did we discuss and already agree this?

Is Freya a Warrant Offer grade 2? If so we should promote to grade 1.

Prerna agrees to both of the above. Of course, her head is so in the clouds over her wedding that she's apt to give away her heavy rifle for an emergency ration snack pack...

Seems reasonable.

What rank are we putting Klaus in at? Sergeant?

Also, sorry for rushing the hire without consultation - I just thought it was a fait accompli, after all, a new player isn't going to fail the interview :D Well, only by really trying to, anyway.

I'll post another response on the main thread later, saying Klaus should hire a squad able to serve as Ship's Troops, but expecting to operate mainly as a line rifle unit (because that's what the preponderance of our unit is trained for).

If I recall correctly, we pay 3000Cr a month for privates. Sergeant is 5 or 6k? Plus shares. I seem to remember a signing bonus too...
