Quest #23 "Even The Jungle Wanted Them Dead"
Re: Quest #23 "Even The Jungle Wanted Them Dead"
Avaala the Grey
Seeing only the last two skeletons left to deal with, Avaala falls back and steps out of the way, in case Galanthas or Wes wants to deal with them.

Galanthas will do the same, in case he gets to find an opening between Monocar and Luther, trying to help the fighter, attacking the skeleton again with the flat of his sword.

"Do be careful, Monocar!" shouts Chauncey encouragingly. Mr. Wrenly sniffles, sneezes then screeches supportively to his giant friend.

Monocar
Takes the knock to the head and groans loudly, staggering from blow that might have downed the average man.
Everything goes slow motion for a moment as things go blue for him.
Meanwhile.... in his head.....
And everything in that same instant becomes very clear to him as he roars out in his full voice full of fury and a feeling of self-righteousness!!! THE POWER OF PHOTUS COMPELS THEE!!! As he shouts his newfound conviction he lashes out at the skeleton with both his sword and his shield!

Re: Quest #23 "Even The Jungle Wanted Them Dead"
Seeking Out The Jungle Priest
Sunday, the 14th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid, Damp, Dim
Monocar shakes out his perma-cobwebs and roars out the name of his new deity. (with only the slightest of disrespectful mispronunciations) This time he gets his shield in on the action while the others join him in the melee. The 2 remaining skeletons are quickly battered into nothing but bones scattered across the stone floor.
The large, dimly lit room suddenly grows quiet again. The dead zombie on the floor in front of the strange spiraled altar remains still. The smell of soot and burnt hair is starting to fade. Other than the drag marks on the floor, there is no sign of their friend Jaxsen.
Actions?

Re: Quest #23 "Even The Jungle Wanted Them Dead"
After Galanthas sheathes his sword and goes recover his thrown arrows, he looks around: "Maybe we should be sure about what do we have here before we dare open any of those doors. Don't you think?" He'll then stroll on the north top of the room, studying the statutes carefully.

Luther
Pauses a moment to catch his breath. Luther collects a thighbone from one of the smashed skeletons, tucking it into his belt.
One of you wizardly types said something about these doors, and the magic around 'em. Which is which again?

Watches as the skeleton crumble at his feet and roars up at the ceiling holding up his sword and shield as he releases the last bit of anger within him before letting them drop and catching his breath. Once he is calmed down a little he looks at his hands and then at the Skeleton in wonder. Holy crap, I'm a cleric now.

Avaala points to the far door on the left, facing the way they came into the area. "The area behind that door radiated a weak magical aura." He then points to both the doors to their right. "Both of them radiated a steady magical presence behind them." He finally points to the spiral design in the altar. "And that radiated very powerful magic. I'm sorry I cannot say more about the nature of the magic, but in the case of all three doors, I get the impression that the magic is beyond the doors, and not the doors themselves."
He lets the group consider what he has said for a moment, and then adds, "I do not like the idea of letting Krystal or Jax wait any longer than necessary." He points to the door the drag marks led towards. "I think our next move should be there."

MMM felt like a Super Hero and made strides directly to the doors with the drag marks. I can open it! he said with a puffed chest and kicked the door open like a boss!

Wes
Wes takes the piece of branch he keeps as a spare club and offers it to Galanthas."Here, my friend. A weapon for you courtesy of Obad Hai. He provides everything we need in his kingdom". To further prove his point, Wes holds out his spear, a fire-hardened piece of bamboo. "The pirates took my weapons when I was their prisoner. Obad Hai re-armed me."
Wes then moves over to stand with his back to the wall between the two doors on the right. He watches the rest of the room as Monocar kicks open the door.

Chauncey will nonchalantly gather his battle-winning darts. Suddenly a thought occurs to him.
“Were both Krystal and Jaxon not invisible when they left us? Provided they took no offensive action and were merely overcome, say, by the ward on the altar, if it be a ward, as seems likely, as well as a ‘room feature’ that it strikes me would be of particular interest to our monk companion, could they not then be lying insensate and unseen at our very feet, even now bleeding out their invisible life essence, as it were? It is, perhaps, best to be sure,” he says. He will circumnavigate the altar area, probing cautiously with his foot around it and the zombie husk - without touching it - for any invisible obstacles.

Galanthas looks at the weapon his friend hands him: "Thank you, Wes. I'll put it to good use." He takes the club and holds it in his right hand, sure that it'll be put to use soon enough.Jernau35 wrote:Wes

Luther sees Monocar's intentions too late to stop him.
Wait! he yells as the young warrior breaks down the door.

Avaala the Grey
"I considered that," says Avaala. "I've been asking Treasure to look around the room as well. His vision can see into the otherwise invisible spectrums. He has seen nothing like that so far." Avaala then moves quickly towards the door Monocar just kicked in, careful not to block any of the fighters or those with Missile weapons, but close enough to cover Monocar with spell fire if necessary.

Re: Quest #23 "Even The Jungle Wanted Them Dead"
Seeking Out The Jungle Priest
Sunday, the 14th of Goodmonth
Mid Morning, Hot, Humid, Damp, Dim
Galanthas moves around the back of the altar to check out the three massive statues standing there. All three are dust covered and filthy with cobwebs and bird shit. The central one appears to be carved in the likeness of Pelor, a large sun with shining rays line the back of its head area. The pair straddling Pelor appear to be of 2 young men. One of them is dressed in clerical garb, looking vey pious, while the other is a bit more disheveled, appearing much younger than the first and dressed in strange looking wizards robes.
Chauncey wonders out loud if both of the groups scouts were suddenly overcome by something sinister. Is it really possible that despite the drag marks in the fresh soot, that Jaxsen and Krystal could simply be lying unconscious at their feet? He takes a lap around the altar but finds nothing with his kicking motions. "Told you", Treasure squeaks from a distance.
Wes gives Galanthas his spare club as they listen to the logic of Avaala, each of them turning to the door where the drag marks end.
Monocar thinks he has become a cleric now for some reason, and the others don't try to convince him otherwise. Once the huge oaf gets his bearings again, he walks up to the southwest door and kicks it as hard as he can. Unfortunately, the pull ring on the door indicates that it swings outward, so all he gets for his effort is a sore foot. Pulling it open instead, reveals a dark storage area beyond, partially filled with very old crates and casks. The drag marks continue into the room and are soon swallowed up in the darkness.

Luther walks up behind Monocar and smacks him on the back of the head, open-palm.
Monocar, you're a brave man. I like you- I really do. But don't do that kind of shite again! They're called booby traps for a reason: they catch fools.
He pulls out his tinderbox. Who's got a torch?

Galanthas chuckles at the show that Monocar and Luther are throwing and gets closer to the door, ready for anything that might attack them, with the club that Wes gave him in his hand.
He decides he'll inquire about the statues later. Jaxsen is a more pressing matter now.
