The Charge of the SEMC Part Three+

While Kit believes he has interrupted the cascading self destruction of the ship's computer systems his squad presses on dropping through the open hatch to the main deck.

As they do Ink immediately calls “All units - we got squirters from the Saxon”. She then takes a spread of AP sabots to the chest plate of her armour which has no effect other than to elicit a bout of return autofire and Collace invective "You fekkin' canute!" Ink then urgently screams "Hardshell! Hardshell armour!" Kit hears Route One bellow "AT AT!" and Nuts scream "Fekkin' 'ave it you fekkin' fekker!" as he cuts loose with his PGMP. Moving up to the fight Kit is scoured by super heated backblast but fortunately his armour shrugs it off. He hears a plasma bolt whang off what must be a deckplate or bulkhead and then Nuts exults "Run, Impie! Run!" The squad push on in pursuit, driving their now fleeing opponents down through the lower cargo hold and out of the ship. Route One crows "Imperial Marines - hah! SEMC any day!" Nuts enquires slyly " 'Ere, Inky, are yer frups alwright?" Clearly relieved she replies "Yeh, cheers" then defensively retorts "Fek off - yer nonce blimper!"

Kit follows up herding the compliant prisoners (who are helpfully carrying their sparko mate). He follows in the wake of a brutal firefight. In the upper cargo bay a discarded LAW tube and plasma burns on the cargo deck below show SEMC pressed hard and played to win. A corpse in high tech combat armour with most of the top quadrant of the body destroyed by a LAW strike is all that remains of the enemy rear guard / stay behind party.

Kit immediately recognises the armour as Imperial Marine standard shipboard issue combat armour. The trooper's longarm and power pack are clearly the remnants of an Imperial issue TL13 Laser Carbine. He also recognises the 4mm gauss needles stuck in Ink's breastplate. In the upper cargo bay Kit sees what the Imperium(?) defended/bought time to achieve. Connected to the rest of the trader by umbilicals is what looks to be a discrete command centre capable of supporting at least a small squadron. (Occupies the same template [5x2 squares] as the cargo lift on your map but occupying the space where the lettering "Cargo Lift" is). Kit sees a command console, recognises a couple of sensor operator stations and comms consoles together with what could be a high end computer and a battle computer linked to a holo projector display. All the gear is TL14 standard but so are the thermal demolition grenades which are already doing their work and reducing anything with a potential electronic memory (or functionality) to molten slag. Again his combat armour protects him and the team from the heat and fumes.

Kit and his team are now wholly in undisputed possession of the trader(?) Saxon.

The Techs reply clearly eager to please. Dylan replies "Um, I've got no drones visible - I just don't think that's their aerial recon bag, man.. er... Ma'am". Florence adds "Ma'am, I'm getting very little on radio comms. Do they have land lines? Hardwired comms - that would kind of explain it... if they put the "B" in basic. Oh, and I can't see any artillery types or... prime movers (she just looked that up)... Ma'am".

Upon hearing Kit's team report from Saxon Freya tasks her bot to scan the ship (because she's busy) and it dutifully pings her (bots trump drones) as it spots movement. She sees four figures on foot exit the lower portside cargo bay at a run and head for a door in the adjacent berm wall. Three are surely soldiers with rifles, one wears complete combat armour while the other two wear partial hard armour and CES. Freya recognises this as of the same type and camo pattern as the ISS security troops that she saw earlier. The fourth man wears a long coat over similar "hard" combat armour to the first soldier. He has no rifle and is "bareheaded" in that he only wears a comm link, vision aids and filter mask.

Beau, your two stay outside, the carbon monoxide needs to clear out." Jakob reloaded his weapon and made sure grenades and extra mags were in place. He sent in a request to the mortar team to see how busy they were, and if they had building busters and/or schrapnel ability.

The grenade launcher above, is it sitll useable? Is it moveable? If so, once we clear these trenches the team will hit the tower that shot Beau. That will adjust our dance card a little:

1. (D5) up the stairs and deal with the infantry on top of the berm.
3. (E6) AA battery
2. (D7) deal with infantry on top of the berm.

At this point Jakob's team will need a vehicle that can do some building damage, unless there are teams that are free:

4. (F2) AA battery
5. (F10) AA battery
6. (A10) AA battery
7. Ready Reserve

The Grunt pattern IFV effortlessly hums up to 100kph over the runway. As it passes the wreck of the (D3) Flak Tower and the Starport buildings NE of it a flight of LAW spits from the API infantry positions on the berm's Northwest face. Yes and yes! ;) :)

The above is achieved by dismounting it from its tripod. Hefting it will encumber Jakob but the team could lump the ammo for him (encumbering them) and carry a 20rd magazine each.

Jakob reckons it's a "knock off" copy of a TL10 Imperial auto grenade launcher currently loaded with a 20 rd drum mag of HE grenades. There is spare HE drums and also a drum of HEAP grenades. Even your combat armour wouldn't provide a lot of protection against the HE grenades and HEAP would be about as effective against light armour as your LAW (but then LAW is usually fired "skill free" and doesn't have a +4 autofire bonus... :twisted: ).

The mortar section are still dropping rounds on the believed API HQ and so aren't available for re-tasking (but in fairness their 80mm tube hasn't really got the "ooomph" for bunker busting).

Updated above just in case it modifies your tactical plans! :)

When Kit exits the Saxon with the teams three prisoners and sees that there are not collections of people at the base of each ship, he gets on his Combat Team Ghosal comms channel and says. "All units report in." He counts down in his head expecting at four to five reports (2 vehicles, Aslan and Able and perhaps Camp Freddie), but knowing that there can be lots of reasons to not reply. It is better to react with information than jumping without a plan.

While he is waiting for an answer he is looking around for a place to house / store / secure the prisoners.

"Nuts, you and I will be the react team. Ink and Route One you guarding the prisoners and watching the Saxon for trouble we missed."

He switched to the command channel to get Frank."Whisky One we are clearing the trenches north of berm D5, and then will use the gift of a grenade launcher on AA tower E6. I'll swap out fire teams, ensure E6 is clear, and then provide overwatch from there. Any changes before we press on?"

They will clear the right trench, then the left. George and Beau are support so they don't get flanked.
Unless Frank changes Jakob's plan

"Mortar crew, if you have some suppression in mind, could you give me a couple of minutes and then scare the heck out of the AA tower in E6? I'll give you the heads up when we're ready to roll."

Via her drone Freya sees that Freddie and Johnny went up the boarding stair to the Deliverance's air lock and continued on inside. The air lock is still open. Reviewing the footage she sees that a crewman came out and was thrown down the stairs, there's a wounded enemy halfway up/down and Killer is down on the tarmac close to the bottom.

She recalls that Freddie called Killer as a casualty (therefore likely in need of a medic) but he took the tactical decision to press the attack rather than stop to administer first aid (and get shot in the process).

As the last aircraft detonate Jess orders the IFV to skip over the berm followed by the G carrier. She sets the PD fire selector to Vicious (Automatic, but with the option to override). This proves wise as hopping the berm generates a volley of three LAW from the nearest trenches (A7 Right/East). The trenches directly north (of A8) add a more substantial missile with greater range.

The IFV's onboard PD system lights up and the VRF gauss gun rapidly traverses in its turret and hums while the girl "rescued" earlier squeaks as thousands of needles visibly disappear from the ammo hopper next to her. All four incoming threats disappear from the PD radar. Fortunately the G Carrier is not targeted but the rangers onboard blaze suppressing fire from their onboard HMGs at the trenches below.

Sugar scans for the Flak Tower some two kliks away and times her shot for the apogee of the IFV's "pop up" above the 4m high starport buildings. Sugar calls "Target Flaktower. On. Firing". The pulsed plasma streaks across the starport skyline and strikes the tower. The bolts strike the rockcrete tower's face and punch through causing a catastrophic explosion and over penetration. Sugar grins into her gunsight and calls "Money shot!"

(OOC:
PD 2d6 + 8: (6 + 1) + 8 = 15 (VRF Gauss Hits on 8, 10, 12, 14). Four Hits.
Mental arithmetic would suggest the IFV can keep this up for 15 rds - if its luck held that long... ;)
RPA-12 2d6 + 5: (4 + 6) + 5 = 15
Effect: 1d6: 5 = 5 We know the answer - hits from their own detonating anti-starship missiles on the squishy gun crew are baaad...)

Well, that's two votes for D5! :)

My recollection is that it went into the forward operating base with the mortar team and the assault groups.

If it followed the plan then it delivered Freya to D4 berm and then joined the mortar team in D5. The D5 berm is our forward rally point.

If it followed the plan then it delivered Freya to D4 berm and then joined the mortar team in D5. The D5 berm is our forward rally point.

Kit spots some workshops/garages that might at least have three solid walls/sides that prisoners could be contained within. Meanwhile Route One and Ink sit the prisoners down under the trader and cover the nearby door into the interior of the berm.

In response to his query Kit receives the following reports:
