Helix: The Brazen Strumpet
Re: Helix: The Brazen Strumpet
Raust nods solemnly, accepting the offers of all three - Dale, Ricardo, and Pasquel - to come on the hunt. "You have bows and the senses of elves. This is high quality. I hope to address threats at a distance that they cannot bite us as much as possible."
After a pause, the druid continues, "I am glad for the gnoll's warning of ogres, though to take a deer from those who slew it rightfully is an ill omen. Did you offer it freely?" They shake their head nonetheless. "A gnoll tribe that desires to move north has already been evicting kobolds from their hunting grounds. I will pray to Herne on this."
Raust remains nearby, checking at each dawn at the Manse to find when the Friar Marcel is ready to depart. The druid refuses to sleep indoors, staying in the yard with Namma and Carca, curled up in the bearskin. The innkeeper provides a fresh hambone to each wolf each day, skeptically eying them that they stay away from the chickens. The cracking, crunching sounds as they destroy the femurs helps dissuade any further commentary.
On the third day, they go and hunt, returning with a stringer of pheasants. The innkeeper rebukes open fire cooking in the courtyard and roasts them inside, but only after the druid skeptically accepts his promise that only the same exact birds would be returned. On the fourth day, the barmaids encourage her to bathe again, allowing her a room for that purpose. On the fifth day when Friar Marcel arrives, they depart...
Counting five days at 2sp/each for wolves in the court yard. The wolves are each given a fresh hambone each day. Religious prohibition prevents her eating meat she didn't hunt, so she hunts to restock so she can begin the adventure with the same equivalent number of rations as already purchased. Subtracting an additional 1gp for just the privilege of a hot bubble bath without a room. Total of 3gp additional spent.

The Brazen Strumpet Tavern
May 14th 1066..
Vann Hector arrives back at the tavern in the evening. Weary and bloodied but alive, richer in wisdom and experience though not in coin. Well a hundred gold is a huge amount but he spends it freely.
-14gp upkeep. May 14th - 28th.
"Deluxe upkeep, for two weeks. I need a rest." he says to Bollo, paying in advance for his room, his extra meals, extra ales and the stabling of his horse, (noticing too that one was taken by the elf Savant this very morning on the Relic Raiders trip. He hopes good fortune and a slice of the cake when they return. Which they do of course, returning the same night with more amphora but no horse.
He declines to join their next trip, needing to recover himself. During his two weeks of downtime he visits Golgarth in the hospice, chats up the nurses and practises some 'parkour' across village rooftops and gables as his athleticism is put to the test. (advancing in level)
After two weeks he is fully recovered in health and replenished in supplies. During that sabbatical he has noted some folk have embarked upon new journeys. He gets an itch to adventure again himself.
I will roleplay a downtime visit to the chapel as we have some Sauron clerical works they might help decipher.
Being resident at the tavern for that time, he probably catches all the ooc public tavern gossip and character interaction as a silent listener to what is shared.

He does however get suitably compensated with an equal share of the trove). +103gp.This means each person receives +103gp not 130.

Cosmo
too, arrives back at the tavern.
After paying 14gp upkeep for May 14th - 28th, he proceeds, at the next available opportunity, to look for that pesky beggar Alastar out on the veranda.
Before stepping outside, Cosmo will try his hand at Hiding in shadows Thieving skills [1d100]=84.
Failing miserably to do so on the sunny veranda he instead attempts to Move Silently Thieving skills [1d100]=32, leading up to the main action:
Pick Pockets on Alastar, Thieving skills [1d100]=15 as he wants his Hand of Hoodoo back (which disappeared after the last altercation with the beggar). He feels quite confident in succeeding with this (provided the item is still on Alastar's person of course).

Cosmo
With practice and a nose peg, the gnome Cosmo is able to locate and liberate his 'school days' charm from the beggar-knight.
It is undamaged and only slightly less soiled than the beggar Alastar is. He remembers you aiding him with a recent hot bubble bath and wanton wench who rubbed him down. Of course you took a copy of the tattoo he wears upon his back.
He grabs your arms, pointing to a room scrawled on his shoulder. "We bathed here, immersed as converts, reborn into a new realm. It is a way in but you can never get out.
It is a pit of chaos, it spews forth the defecation of hell. Only the Righteous and the Law can contain the filth. Use a godly enema."
The madman traces his finger from his shoulder to butthole, circling the tattoo printed there and then sticking his finger in. He seems quite mad and disgusting but seems to be making a point.
Vann Hector , your stay is noted.
Sir Dewey, please deduct two weeks upkeep of choice.

Cosmo
spends the next few days gormlessly sauntering around the general area, trying to find and latch onto anyone he recognises from previous missions. He looks hopefully at the hats, faces, boots, birds and bartenders that whirl by. A mighty but miniscule man, adrift in a sea of people. Does he bump into any old mates ?

The Brazen Strumpet Tavern
Cosmo fellowships but steers clear of the wandering hands of vagrant Alastar. The beggar-knight strangely lucid in passing warnings and advice to the illusionist rogue.
Companions from your Spider Silk trek are about though most have other concerns. Sir Dewey is around, taking new vows of service and upgrading his martial skills. Cadeweed has ventured to the barrows and back also so you can both swap stories in the tavern. Sigrid has not returned to Helix, having accompanied the Sauron Mound expedition and taking a side arc in other settlements. Golgarth was still comatose when you returned though over time has recovered and ventured in search of a missing Cromm Cruach elder. Oriental elf Mai returned to Ironguard.
Two weeks fly by, especially when you are training up skills and adopting new classes. That is pretty much the same for all those on expedition downtime.
I will advance the date at the tavern to May 28th so that players can synchronise expeditions and next actions.

Excellent, thanks for kind help with this summary - keeping track of all comrades on so many threads is admittedly a bit daunting

The Knight ponies up the 14g to spend the two weeks of downtime in Helix, deciding to recuperate in a more comfortable setting. During this time he finds his old companions well and takes time to dine with them regularly.
He eventually gets wind of a captured sauron soothsayer and goes to investigate.

Having just blown into this town a few days ago Moorheeth has been wasting time drinking and trying to find a lead on what's been happening in the recent past. Chatting up the patrons around here hasn't led to much as of yet....

Vann Hector is staying in the tavern. His downtime has actually turned out very busy.
Visiting the comatose Golgarth in the hospice until he recovers, finding Savant also is infected and dying. Discovering Dalin has contracted a mysterious ailment and after secreting himself to his room, moonlight flit to find a healing druid.
He has to check himself, his former expedition companions are dropping like flies.
He transcribes the Sauron ritual books with minor success and interprets at the Manse as the Sauron is interrogated. He even gets time to show Cosmo a few ropes with sleight of hand feats and 'parkour' across the tavern gables.
Spying a new adventurer in town, he goes over to introduce himself and see just how adventurous the man is.
"Excuse me. I see by your dress you are a scholar of sorts. The flowing robes and staff and leather bound time mark you as a mage or perhaps itinerant cleric.
May I?" he gestures to an empty chair at the table Moorheeth sits at.
"I am Vann Hector, an entrepreneur of sorts. I have assisted various expeditions and explored in part, some of the infamous Barrow Mounds. During those times I have learned the value of having travelling companions who may call on their gods or their arcane knowledge to assist and help search for relics.
If you have come to Helix in terms of adventure and learning, perhaps joining a group can further your own ambitions."
Vann Hector brings a beer for the man, pointing out regular patrons, "he is the Miller, that one works for the Mercenaries, she makes pies laced with herbs that spice up your ... man-staff."
So he asks Moorheeth regarding his plans and shares his testimony from his last expedition.
you can read the Secret of the Saurons' thread for details.

Moorheeth
Well met good sir! What a breath of fresh air! I have indeed come here for adventure, and I had begun to fear that I wouldn't find any company. Your suspicion is correct, I am a cleric of Arcantryl, and having completed a good share of my training I'm ready to adventure out. There is much knowledge that cannot be found in the library, and I'd be delighted to accompany you on your next foray if you'd have me.
Moorheeth will buy them both another round to help improve his chances

Re: Helix: The Brazen Strumpet
Vann Hector is always open to a bribe, so takes a second ale from Moorheeth.
"Out there, on the boggy plain. Six hundred miles of strange terrain, thick all veiling mist and creatures from nightmares.
Clerics are God sent. Not just to heal but to rebuke the walking dead and even greater diabolic evils."
He slurps his beer and leans in for a more whispered private chat.
"I have been helping the chief priest and his Lordship with interpreting lizardman rituals, learning of their blood sacrifices and summoning of demons. Spirits in draconic form.
That quiet man over there is a Paladin of Ygg. A noble man knighted and oath sworn to prevail against the hordes of hell. He will lead a trip to the Barrows and end these rituals and defeat a powerful Nergalite knight who has risen from the tombs.
We leave at dawn in a few days if your heart is stout and your brain foolhardy enough"
He points out Sir Dewey as he blags a bit about a possible return trek to the Sauron Mound.

The Knight is deep in thought, trying to plan and pray for success. After a few moments, he rises and moves to join Vann Hector and the newcomer.
"Good to see you again Vann Hector. I see your talent for divining clerics is still strong." He turns to the man and bows. "I am Sir Dewey, champion of Ygg. Did I hear something about a library? How interesting!"
"I am indeed gathering forces to return to that wicked place, and Ygg knows we could use all the hands we can find. We also must know more about our foe, so if you do have experience in research, I would welcome the assistance."

Moorheeth
You can count me in good sir! I recently came up here looking for just this opportunity. On the research side I can give it a go, and while I do know my way around a library I must admit to not knowing the local libraries very well.
Moorheeth takes a sip, and then takes a more serious cast.
What you’ve told me so far is quite disturbing. Aberrant creatures like these lizard fiends are bad enough even when not so organized. I don’t like that there seem to be these larger forces at work here!

"Good to hear. There are a few tomes in the chapel and more at the tower. Mazzah the mage is an acquired taste, be sure not to offend if you go searching there. Unfortunately, the topic is Nergal, specifically a tomb with bronze doors. And a horse. Someone, or something called the 'blossom of death'"
The Knight sighs. "The Sauron are heathen, for sure, but they know more than we do. We cannot have the luxury of dismissing information or aid from sources we dislike. The threat of undead is real and is growing."
He seems to realize his somber tone in the tavern and chuckles. "But none of that now. I've heard Vann Hector here is an excellent host and grand company. Now is the time for merriment. Planning and execution come tomorrow."

I can definitely spend some time with those tomes, but for tonight, I agree, lets drink!

"We should get others. What about Cosmo, Foxrell and Sun Tsieng?
Any other adventurers. Bah, most of those here seem preoccupied with gold and trinkets. I heard a couple of groups dug up all manner of treasure from the Barrow Mounds, curses too. My dwarf friend Dalin, stealing off in the night, afraid the clerics might put him to the torch as they did the leper farm and those wretched poor at the hospice. Glad to see Golgarth getting up and out before he was burned alive too.
Savant morphed into a walking corpse, sprouting a mushroom head and belching spores. His ashes spread around the graveyard. Even the grave didn't want him though, the wind picked up and blew his ashen bits away into the forest.
Eldon got right on the saddle of his pooch and left town, ain't seen him in weeks. I could rein in Tamson, the miller's son. He is a young ranger but commendable, good with a bow. I noticed a pretty young thing at the Mercenary guild. Svelte maiden with a certain sway in her walk and delicate hands that caress a man's soul. She can light up a man's passion no doubt, calling tongues of fire from the heavenlies to frazzle your skull to the bone.
What about Alastar the Beggar-knight. We must be as crazy as him to go back. Here Moorheeth, go chat with him, see what you can find out. Ask him to show you the map of the 'Tunnel of love'."
The elf, getting drunk at this point as he reminesces, points out the village beggar who sits on the verandah with his tin cup.

I may also be in my cups a bit, but I'm not anywhere near drunk enough to asking for a map to that tunnel. You do make sense about needing more adventurers.
Tomorrow ill do a bit of research and it wouldn't hurt to try and and find a few others to join the cause.
