Re: OCC Thread
Hey guys, it's a pretty sure thing that Stonjuz isn't coming back. Due to that reality, I've decided to quietly retire Stonjuz the dwarf when the time is right. If Ston ever comes back, we'll deal with that, but given the long history of this character and Ston's unique style in bringing the character to life, I don't want to NPC the dwarf much longer. Doesn't feel right to me.
So, I have another player lined up to fill the hole. Everybody welcome Majik to the game! He'll be rolling up a character and joining us as soon as I can fit him into the story.

Sweet. Welcome Majik. We could really use a half-pixie bard/illusionist/paladin. Or a cleric. Either one.
I would not have expected to lose Stonjuz like that. He seemed pretty committed. Hope everything's ok.

Thanks guys, a half-pixie bard/illusionist/paladin... is that even possible? :p
Sounds kind of heavy.
I will look over the notes, but I am leaning towards a fighter, at least until I get used to your game and style of play. I will let the rolls decide once I check out the books.

Re: OCC Thread
Hey guys, all I know about Stonjuz is that he warned the players in his 2e game that he was probably going to have to turn off his internet due to finances. He stopped posting, so the assumption is that his internet was turned off. I do hope he's ok, but it doesn't seem like he's coming back soon.
Anyway, while helping Majik think through character creation, it was brought to my attention once again that I have no idea how Vargr came up with the derived rolls for our characters. I also don't know exactly how he came up with the ability score modifiers we're using, which are not standard 1e AD&D but an amalgam of OD&D, Basic, and AD&D.
Now, I've barely used the derived rolls (for things like athletics, dodge, hearing) since taking over as DM, and I haven't used them for some time. I prefer rolling under ability scores for anything that does come up. That will be my solution going forward, at any point when I need to know if someone heard a particular sound or knows an obscure bit of knowledge. (Which also means that, as far as I'm concerned, Thurinor can be as good-looking as you want, Grog...
)
The ability score modifiers are another thing. I'm going to have Majik use the standard mods from 1e/OSRIC. To make this as fair as possible, if anyone finds that a particular standard ability mod from 1e/OSRIC would be better than the mod your character has now, go ahead and change any mods that would benefit your character. If 1e/OSRIC would make an ability mod worse, leave it how it is now. That seem fair? Any thoughts?
Again, welcome, Majik!

Ha ha, I detect a note of disappointment. We'll have to work on opportunities for other adventures and conquests once you're all out of this claustrophobic valley...onlyme wrote:Sounds good to me... Malone hasn't used his sex appeal roll once anyway...

I remember reading Vagr was a big fan of Osric, but it might be a mix of that and house rules.

Re: OCC Thread
Yeah, I don't think he's on the site anymore or I'd ask him. And I could probably dig up the house rule, it's probably not unique. But when it comes down to it, I really just prefer to go with ability checks anyway. KISS, you know?
That said, if you all prefer to have a comeliness score, you can roll 4d6 and drop the lowest...
