Happy holidays all!
Assessing interest in something of an experiment...
The Old School Board Game Parlor
Join in virtual play of classic old school board games! Primitive by today’s standard’s, these rare oldies-but-goodies bring back memories and kindle that OSR feeling.
How it works: We review the usually very simple rules. Play order is determined. Roll the dice (linked to the Board Game Parlor campaign ID#) in turn. As GM, I move/place the pieces based on the rolls. After each game piece move, a picture will show the board. Close-up of the board can provide more dynamic views. Play proceeds as such, with other decisions made along the way as necessary. Intra-game conversation welcome. Handling of more specific rules will be done within each game.
Up first: Warlocks and Warriors, the 1977 game by TSR. Great old school art from Dave Sutherland.
And Star Trek, the vintage 1974 game from Hasbro. Beam me up!
Many more games available. If there is enough interest, will move to formal recruitment and add more details. Thanks.

Me too!
If the posting rate isn’t too aggressive, I would love to give this a try.

Hi Rex and Ogre, hope you had a nice Holiday. Besides the three of us, there are three more players. More is possible when running multiple games, so I’ll do a recruitment post tomorrow and request the forum this week.

Sounds great!
I'm excited to see how this works.
I have been thinking about doing a Greyhawk conversion (or something similar) with this game

I’ve enjoyed Tom Wham games, but never played this. We should just play it as is, though perhaps after we see how the more simple games work out. Tiles and cards and such add a little bit of complexity

Never hurts to start simple and work up, but I don't see why we couldn't make it work.

Absolutely!
Lets see how this works with the initial suggestions and take it from there.

I've considered trying a Mass Combat scenario on US using C&C's Fields of Battle, Battlesystem or another rules system.

That sounds like fun Norjax. I would be up for it as long as you don't mind someone not familiar with the rules.

Noted!
The
Fields of Battle rules are easy to follow: Each unit is treated like a traditional single combatant (AC, Hp, Attack, etc.) for actions. Scaling for attrition is taken into account when a unit loses numbers and then factored into successive actions.

Sounds easy enough,

The test scenario I envision would be several humanoid tribes allied into two factions battling for regional supremacy. The tribes would be equal in number and statistics, so the only variables are the players and die rolls. I would be the judge to define, organize and arbitrate the battle with maps and resolution posts. Players would make their own rolls and post the actions of the units.

How much interest would a casual one-off Barbarians of Lemuria game have here? I know Tibbius has run at least one here.

Alternatively, a Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells series of dungeon crawls would be fun too.
