Sulldawga, I hope everything is OK for you and your family, and anyone else in Boston. I just heard about the terrible news of the bombing of the Boston Marathon.

Okay, so if I can get a clearly worded question and a vote on said question in the next twenty-four hours.

Nice job, Thordin! My answer was like Makofan's (water mill), but it did not feel quite right.
I am OK with whatever question the group wishes to pose to the big magic mouth. Maybe we should not over think things, though. Keep the question simple, like the riddle that was posed to us. Like Thordin's answer of "mirror", maybe the mouth will also respond in kind with a simple answer that makes just as much sense. If it doesn't, we can stuff it with rat poo!

How about.... "Where can we find Elwyn?" .... or .... "Where can we find Bargle?"
Even if the answer is not entirely clear or detailed or direct, it may lead us to another interesting adventure. Maybe finding either person should be challenging, and not too easy.

The issue is that he may answer: "You can find Elwyn in his house" or something like that.
I'm good with zebediah's suggestion.

I didn't even think there'd be people here from Boston. Hope everything is alright with everyone.
Finglas wrote:If it doesn't, we can stuff it with rat poo!
Why did you have to say such a thing? Putting ideas like that in my head isn't healthy for the party
What are we really after here? What do we want? Needless to say TTK will probably keep it cryptic but we should do our best to narrow down the answer

zebediah wrote:No worries man. We're all just trying to make sense - in a very complicated way - of a make-believe game. Gets even better with a beer.
But I get your point, indeed there are many variables including the amount of knowledge the enchantment is drawing upon. You can mitigate that with the wording of the question, for example: "the straightest (or quickest) path a rider can take between point A and point B". There are inumerous paths one can take, but only one will be the straightest/quickest.
I think we can boil down our current suggestions to (i) asking him to describe the path we should take or (ii) asking a measure of the distance.
Maybe we should do a quick vote on the above and then we build the wording. Or am I overcomplicating this?

Sounds good to me Zeb. So let's decide first on the overall question type, and then come up the exact question wording.
Choice #1: What is the description of the straightest path between Point A (for example, Threshold) and Point B (Elwyn's hideout)?
Choice #2: How many miles are there between Point A (for example, Penhaligon) and Point B (Elwyn's hideout)?
So far the vote tally looks like:
Choice #1: Zebediah, Rremedio
Choice #2: Frobozz

Thirdkingdom, it looks like this magical room has been here for quite a while. If the answer it provides us is fruitful, can we return to it for more questions? It could serve as an oracle of sorts!

Thanks, man. I volunteered last year and I was literally three or four blocks away from where the bombs went off today. Very scary. Wish I had volunteered this year and had been there to help.
My cousin was at the finish line watching for friends and left only minutes before the bombs went off. She is, understandably, still completely freaked out.

Marodin votes for "What is the fastest way that our party can safely walk from Threshold to Elwyn's current hideout?"
Although I think we could get away with asking, "How do we find Elwyn's hideout?" I don't think that's asking so much that the oracle will try to screw us over.
I hope we can come back and ask more questions. The next one should be "Where can we find a Hammer of Thunderbolts, Girdle of Giant Strength, and Gauntlets of Ogre Power so Marodin can become Thor Jr.?"

Just read about the bombings now as I got out of bed. Shocking.
So thus far we have 4 on option 1.
Sulldawga, I like that wording and would only suggest the following:
"What is, in as much detail as you can describe, the fastest way that our party can safely walk from Threshold to Elwyn's current hideout?"
And maybe qualifying Elwyn, like "the renegade cleric" or something like that. Didn't he have an epithet?

Good point, we could be led to some other Elwyn.
Where can we fin Elwyn, the something/something, who we are looking for for this reason so that we may do this for that guy. Give as much detail as possible.

Okay, so it looks like the question is as follows: "what is the fastest and safest way to walk from Threshold to the fortress of Elwyn the apostate cleric"?

Lanny will go along with the majority decision and is ok with the wording as indicated in TK's post.

I am fine with asking about Elwyn's hideout, but would rather slay monsters than men. My character is not really out for the common good, looking more for wealth and power and (dwarven) respect. He is more of a reluctant hero.
