Offering in explanation to Torbath's silent query, "I have offered Mr. Zuhma the smoke gem as collateral in exchange for teaching us some magic to assist with the retrieval of his book. We return the book to him and he returns the gem to us. I suggested a few spells I thought would be helpful, but please feel free to make another."

Re: The Lost Tavern
I think we can make this easier if we attach a one day time span for each level of spell that is to be shared.
So......these then?
Detect Invisibility 2
ESP 2
Knock 2
Locate Object 2
Web 2
Ray of Enfeeblement 2
Knock 2
For example, this list would take one person 2 full weeks to process.
Will the non Magic Users in the group wish to do anything with this much downtime?
Did I accidentally mention that he only had 2nd level spells?

Torbath would be down for it but that might not be pleasant for the non-Magic Users.

If it's just a matter of hand-waving it, Maag is fine.

Theo's fine with that too.
He can't think of anything he wants to do in the city while waiting.

Well that's immaterial for Feanol as she can only cast 2nd level spells.OGRE MAGE wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:36 pm I think we can make this easier if we attach a one day time span for each level of spell that is to be shared.

Now if the two of us each learn 3 we could cut this down to 1 full week?
I would say this to the non-casters impatience on waiting for us to learn a few spells lead us to still be sitting here. Just sip on a ale for a couple of weeks and we'll be ready to go and much more likely to succeed.

Can't hurt to ask."Unless there is something else one of you seek from the great and powerful Zuhma?" [/dialog]
The whole time he speaks, you notice the man can barely take his eyes off the huge grey gem held by Andron.

The Ethereal Marketplace
Zuhma's House
Maag seems to be wary of this entire conversation, wondering how a few spells will help his team overcome one of the most dangerous monsters he's ever heard of.
Zuhma snaps his fingers and suddenly disappears as the group looks on in confusion. When he appears again in a flash, he has 2 large books cradled in his arms.
"These are my older books with the lesser spells you desire to learn from me."
He looks to Marlaman. "Will you take our less focused friends back to the tavern with you?"
He turns again to his three new students. "Which spell would you like to attempt to learn first?"
"I suppose I should mention that our deal will still be valid regardless if you are able to comprehend these magicks or not. Is that understood?"

Re: The Lost Tavern
Frugal ranger Theo is disappointed at the mention of being taken back to Marlama's tavern. He'd been hoping to quietly get some free room at the wizard's house, and maybe even some free board too. But now it's back to paying for every day in the city. And they haven't seen even a copper piece of pay or treasure since arriving here.

The Ethereal Marketplace
Zuhma's House
Marlaman looks to Maag, Theo, and Alordan before speaking. "Is there anything you'd like to do on the way back to the Tavern then?"
Zuhma pages through one of his books, opening it to his ESP divination. "So be it. I will teach you all this one today. Tomorrow you can transpose it into your own books. Then we can attempt to learn another after that." (can you post your *chance to learn spell* rolls here for me please?)
The chairs and large table are pulled together to create a makeshift study hall of sorts where the spell casters can obtain and share their knowledge. Zuhma looks down his nose at any non-casters who remain in his home. "There is nothing more for you to learn here, I'm afraid."

Re: The Lost Tavern
Theo replies to Marlaman, I wouldn't mind stopping at a food market. You know, to have something to snack on in the room between meals in the dining room. He takes a sidelong glance at the tavern keeper to check his reaction. He'd been kicked out of taverns before for bringing his own food.

Alordan putters around as wizards do their spell swap and others eat and wander. "What happens after this is done? Where do we go from here?"
