OOC and MIA
Re: OOC and MIA
Sounds cool.
I'll post about the 1LT over in the other thread, we can all make sure we're happy with what's in the spreadsheet before we rubber stamp it.

It must exist - mustering out offers shifts in Int and Edu of up to +2 across all services. Although I haven't imagined what exact form this "additional schooling" takes do assume it is there to access!Leitz wrote:I need to see what the process is for raising one's EDU post chargen.
Sorry to hear you've had a rough few weeks. Hope things improve for you.

Re: OOC and MIA
I'd still like to see Frank get some points in leader and tactics as we progress the game, not sure how we make that happen.
Re: OOC and MIA
I think we've worked out that Jakob has "Instruction 1.5" and is working on a full 2, due to in transit pre-game study. ( Tiglath can confirm/deny) IC, he is very approachable, and it's obvious that he's driven to help others improve themselves. It is just as obvious that he's happy not being the "top dog".shaidar wrote:I'd still like to see Frank get some points in leader and tactics as we progress the game, not sure how we make that happen.

Skills can be taught in six weeks, so there's that.
IIRC, there's something about easily raising EDU to match INT, over time. Right now, Jakob's focus is getting his team ready to hit the dirt in full battle mode. Frank can join in/observe, and Jakob can explain the what's and whys. Jakob plans on getting Beau up to Tactics-1, and once that's done, it'll be "Look Out!".
Re: OOC and MIA
IRL, I'm a life long student. The EDU increase is pretty easy, if you plan well. Jakob is a planner.Tiglath wrote:It must exist - mustering out offers shifts in Int and Edu of up to +2 across all services. Thanks. I'm not young, and have pushed myself to achieve a long held goal. This week and next were supposed to be the culmination, and things just totally tanked. Realizing a dream won't happen, after forty years, is sort of a bummer. The reality is that there are better dreams, and I'm chasing those.Tiglath wrote:Sorry to hear you've had a rough few weeks. Jakob will by copies of the Imperial Equivalent for everyone. He probably has a dog eared copy annotated in his pocket.

Re: OOC and MIA
Thinking of personal development, as QSM, go-between with The Shore and the Aslan and recruiter Jess is not practicing the military arts much. IIRC CT doesn't have the Broker skill, it uses Admin and Bribery instead. I think Jess is more the Bribery sort of Broker than the Admin type

If you take the view that what she's doing is "networking" / acting a "fixer" with shady arms dealers and aslan then the skill at hand might well be Liaison. (Bk 5 p.12 quoted below - also giving her Streetwise 0).
Liaison: The individual is trained in the art of dealing with others; this skill is usable in relations with members of military units, citizens in a community, and with alien or foreign cultures.
This individual is trained to subordinate his or her own views and prejudices where
they may conflict with those held by the individuals being dealt with. As a result,
greater cooperation may be achieved, and substantial progress in mutual projects
made. Liaison is primarily used as a positive DM on the reaction table in Book 3.
Referee: Liaison is similar to both streetwise and admin skills. Streetwise tends to
deal with unsavory aspects of society, while admin deals with the formal bureaucratic structure. Liaison is a formal training that spans both, but also extends to contact with alien cultures. Liaison may be used as the equivalent of the next lower level of either streetwise or admin where necessary; thus, liaison-2 is the equivalent of streetwise-1.

Well recovered, sir!

Re: OOC and MIA
This is one reason I'm not big on the retro game scene. I appreciate all the old school designers have done for us, but in the end, we're playing the game. What the designer's intent was means less to me than what works best for our collection of players. Playing a "true X game" just doesn't cut it.
Jess really does seem to be doing the Liaison thing, and doing it well. It looks like she has at least a skill 0 in it, giving her a base roll with no negative modifiers. What I've often seen happen is that the PC makes a roll, and the player can modify the roll through game play. For example, if Jess rolls a 7, the player could add some good in game story-telling for a +1 or +2. This gives everyone a win, since the rest of us get to read a fun story.

Re: OOC and MIA
Well, I can but agree!
I love the game but I'll not use a broken mechanic just to enjoy the "old skool" feel.
Situational / storytelling bonuses and the "rule of cool" will always apply.
Just as a heads up I'm hoping to move into a "diplomatic reception" aboard the liner over the weekend.
Usual caveats (stuff in other places can still carry on) - just posting a "navigational advisory".

Always felt Liaison was a "half skill". Need level 2 to get a +1 DM. But, it is the appropriate skill. And I suppose two half skills are better than two -3 DMs, at the end of the day.
Could have been worse, at least you didn't suggest Diplomacy.

Re: OOC and MIA
On the topic of skill usage, would this be allowed?
Leadership, from MgT v1, "is for directing, inspiring, and rallying allies and comrades". What Jakob would like to do, in the time before the "meet and greet" (a very common military tradition) is to get some short bios on the unit leaders. Skip is easy, he's a former Marine and SEH recipient. That sort of thing for everyone, and then use Leader to speak to the various factions. The goal isn't just to make the unit look good, but to perceive (Int modifier) something about the other party and discuss how good they are at that (Leader). And, of course, to talk about how the unit is well suited to get things done.
Make sense? What's the Campaign ID?

Roll the bones!
One pair for the task and one for observing your results.
I have a campaign ID somewhere but please just go ahead and "freestyle" it on the Servants die roller. You are eminently trustworthy!
