Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
Maybe he can try to come up with some sort of argument to prove these demonspawn are in league with devil's... Wait. Wrong scene.
He can grab the backpacks and head out the door. Then poor several flasks of oil on the floor inside the room, so that when we go through, Dolph can light it. Then we can use a large puddle of holy water (in the doorway) and our protection to bar then in with the flames.
Thoughts?

Hah! If only Pendleton could sway the half-heads with the power of logic and argumentation!
Getting our gear out of the room and pouring oil isn't a bad idea. Marullus, do I assume correctly that pouring oil isn't an "attack" for purposes of keeping PfE active?

I fear that your clear visibility into their cleaved skulls reveals that your foes are literally brainless.Zhym wrote:Hah! If only Pendleton could sway the half-heads with the power of logic and argumentation!

Linked Arms [1d20+2] = 19+2 = 21
Able clings tightly to Idriss (and Dare?) In an effort to protect the bearded heathens. Neegan and Grimble, gather yet stuff if ya can. Then let's get ya outta here while the gettin's good. We can block them in here an' burn'em.

Realizing that he is still protected from the demonlings, Pendleton hastily collects the party's gear and moves it into the next room while the stronger members of the party try to hold the line. If there is time and room when he is done, he will pour oil on the floor.
It's the perfect nemesis for Pendleton: a creature with no brain to be swayed by reason!Marullus wrote:I fear that your clear visibility into their cleaved skulls reveals that your foes are literally brainless.Zhym wrote:Hah! Dare huddles close and links arms with the others...
Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
Before I adjudicate - who's packs is Pendleton grabbing first?
Let's say you can grab two packs a round (three rounds total), plus pouring oil is a round. We will need round-by-round choices.

Is Grimble grabbing a couple packs as we go, too? And Neegan? If so, then that would be complete in this round. And then with a bunch of protected folks clogging the doorway spreading oil and holy water, we could start burning them up in round three.
Or is that too much like a special ops team?

The demons are IN THE ROOM. You are not blocking them out at the door. You are making a pocket against the wall with Grimble and Neegan huddling behind you, then trying to inch to the door so you can block them in, not out. Pendleton is trying to maneuver in a room chock full of demons who can't touch him but who are all in his way.

Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
i understand the relative locations of the people/demons. You're saying the packs are too scattered for the dwarfs to fetch as they are shuttled out, though? Because if a fire Marshall suddenly appeared we'd be fined for exceeding the caring capacity? Gotcha.
I guess I was hoping the packs would be lined up on a wall.

Well, if we get the dwarfs out this round, maybe Dare and Idriss can help Pendleton next round.
Would it be possible for Grimble and Neegan to pour out holy water in the doorway as they exit?

Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
All your gear is neatly packed and lined up along the wall between you and the door? Yeah, that's too optimistic. I'm going to go with the assumption that, if you were woken from sleep in camp, that your bedrolls are laid out around the room with some personal things unpacked.
Pendleton dodges and scrambles around the room, trying to collection his goods first, then the next. The demonspawn snarl at him and impede him, but he is able to make his way around. (I'm assuming you grab your own pack and spellbook first. Specify one other PC who you grab now.)
The four of you link arms and try to protect Grimble and Neegan while the demons push and shove each other into you to try and force you apart. Dolph and Dare hold firm, but Ablesforth and Idriss falter, getting shoved away from your companions. Six of the half-headed sniffers -- about half their number -- make it through, the other half stymied by Dolph and Dare. Neegan and Grimble hold their shields, fending them off with all they can muster - one manages to claw Grimble (-2 hp), three of them are kept at bay. Two of them, being shoved into the wards by their companions, turn and hiss at each other, grappling and tearing each other's flesh on the floor instead. (Critical fumble: Fight among themselves and lose next action)
Date: 23 July 2021, 3:01pm
Light: Red light from ceiling; Dolph's Torch (until 4:00pm)
Effects: Invisibility (Pendleton) Protection from Evil (Ablesforth, Idriss, Dolph, Pendleton), smoldering incense (until 8:20pm)
Injuries: Neegan (minor wounds)

With Idriss shoved away from the line, is he able to retrieve his own pack? If not, Pendleton will bring Idriss's pack, knowing how important an arcane spell caster's spell book is.

Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
Did the dwarfs get any closer to the door, or were they stymied?
Able tried to reform the line.
in case it's needed: [1d20+2] = 12+2 = 14

Neegan- Durn things are pushy aint they.
If I am reading correctly 3 made it thru the line. Neegan will defend himself. Maybe this is how fight these things a couple thru the line at a time. We kill them that way.
+1 Hand Axetohit(THAC017)[1d20+4] = 5+4 = 9,todam[1d6+4] = 6+4 = 10

Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
I am not sure how Dare can best help, so I will await further instruction...
Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
Two of the creatures continue to scuffle among themselves, clawing and tearing each other's flesh, which gives the opportunity for Ablesforth to reinsert himself and link arms. Idriss remains flustered and unable to get between the demons and the dwarves, and Dare falters as well, falling aside as the press of half-heads shoves on him. Ablesforth and Dolph are still able to keep about seven at bay and the remaining four claw at the dwarves. One rakes Neegan deeply with its claws (Crit: max damage, -4) while the others are held at by their shields. Grimble brings around Ablesforth's maul in a stunning blow, crushing most of the bones in one of the sniffer's body (Crit: Double Damage, -10) and removing it from the fight.
Meanwhile, Pendleton grabs two more packs - Ablesforth and Dolph's in this case - and gets them securely outside the door with his and Idriss's goods.
(If you can hold your line for one round, you'll be able to move it into the doorway)
(Round #3!)

Re: Expedition: Ablesforth: The Demon Hole - 14 July 2021
is it still a d20+2 roll?

Neegan- Reacts swiftly as the demon strikes him.

You get the +2 if you succeeded last round (Able, Dolph). It is a straight [1d20] for those trying to reimpose themselves (Dare, Idriss).Rusty Tincanne wrote:is it still a d20+2 roll?
