Alordan utters, "capturing one could be tough - would have to actually be planned out - and not something done in the heat of battle. Perhaps a pit trap or a net trap to hold it. Would need to be very strong. Gramble is right - those things are tough! We may find more answers in those caves... that strange teleport or whatever thing we did we need to be careful of.. that was near where we left Cora right?"

He continues to study the ground for prints, listens to sounds of the islands for clues, and takes not of the strange effect the cats have on the dog.

Saracen shrugs. Theres plenty of Vegetation. Wes used to be able to call it forth and entrap those within quite a large area. We have a druidess here. Perhaps if she can do the same it wouldn’t be that hard at all. We could then use your net to secure it or use sundial methods with our weapons to knock it out whilst it’s so bound. It’s not that big of a task.

"I can try to entangle one, yes. But as with all things it is not guaranteed to hold it fast, they are very strong indeed."

Sir Crestbrook the Mighty

The paladin continues to prod the path and vegetation in front of him scanning for trip wires or other sinister traps. He listens for the sounds of an all too familiar half-man half-bull similar to the one he encountered before when the group first arrived here.

Lerrick

The cleric looks for another tree to climb to see if a minotaur is with in site of the clearing in front of the cave or if there is anything else around the area.

Prior to there new movements the paladin and cleric listened to the others but had nothing else to add.

Andron winces at the boorish and unethical comments and glances nervously in the direction of Sir Crestbrook, but the latter seemed too focused on the mission at hand to hear the conversation behind him. I'm not certain yet what exactly transpired with this Cora ... perhaps it's best to keep silent about the subject until I learn more.
Storm11 wrote:Saracen We have only ever seen one at any given time haven’t we? But there are a lot of very life like statues around the island. Suggesting a company of these man beasts. But what if the magical Dias IS a summoning device. Perhaps it’s purpose is to summon A Minotaur. Whenever the guardian Minotaur dies a new one is automatically magically summoned here.
Andron had scarcely paid much attention to the half-orc cleric of Pholtus before now, partly because he found the unrelenting piety of the Pholtites he has met to be tiresome in debate, but mostly due to his unusual ... appearance. Saracen's theory however jolted him from his pillar of prejudice. "A most fascinating hypothesis. It would satisfy the question of food exhaustion from such a relatively large population of minotaur living on this tiny island ... eternal guardians of a tropical paradise."
wolfpack wrote:That's what I have been saying, the bullmen come through the dias it's some kind of portal. that's why i wanted to bring a wizard along. It certainly wasn't for their scrawny arms.
Andron ignores the crude ... albeit fairly accurate ... implication of his physical prowess, more interested as he was in the mention of the mysterious dais. "This dais you speak of, is there any distinguishing markings or inscriptions carved into its base?"
Rex wrote:Tlachtga

"Typically a wizard is restricted to a single animal, such as a cat, for a familiar. I've never heard of one possessing of dozens, except maybe in one of the old tales of Zagyg the Mad. It would further explain then how these cats survive if they don't require normal sustenance."

Andron peers warily around at the surrounding trees. Those walking trees you encountered before ... I would expect they have an equally unusual origin and purpose."

He further listens to the strategies discussed on capturing a minotaur, nodding in approval. "I would prefer a peaceful dialogue with them ... but given their mercuric temperament restraining one is a wise course of action. Myself and the other clerics can also attempt to blind it with our magic to more easily manipulate it into a trap."

Maag

Maag considers the various ways to capture a Minotaur."A tripwire dat would drop a net or a deadweight would be pretty easy to rig".

"But we'd 'ave to dig a pit. Or find one in der right spot to lure it in".

"Now, about der cats," he continues. "Wot if der not just magic cats, but magic sumfin elses pretendin' to be cats? Like fairies or sumfin?"

The excellent dialogue between the party members continues as ideas are brought up and subsequently either challenged or seconded. The newest additions to the group seem to be fitting in well so far, sharing valid ideas and expressing intelligent compromise. Alordan finds no new tracks in the mud and hears no signs of any bullmen ahead.

While the dripping wet party discuss the strange cats and the even stranger minotaur dais, Lerrick grabs onto a tree branch and easily scurries up its trunk. Climbing high enough to see over the front ring of stones, the cleric doesn’t notice much that has changed here since they last left the place. Can I get a normal Int check roll from her please? [3d6] Then she (and only she) starts to hear a soft hissing noise coming from somewhere higher in the tree, just above where her left hand is currently clasped around a branch.

Andron attempts to wipe away the accumulated rain water on his overcoat but soon heaves a weary sigh and relents to his current condition ...

If I am to be traipsing about in these jungles for the forsseable future, I'd best ask lady Nillassa what she has available that's more suitable than my current dress.
Jernau35 wrote:Maag

Looking up after his futile attempt to dry himself, Andron considers Maag's query. "It is a theory I have also considered, however we have no evidence as yet to indicate it's true. Assuming the presence of a wizard on the island, perhaps a polymorphic magic is at play. Note also the ambulatory trees acting with purpose and intent. The effects of a baleful polymorph does eventually degrade its victim's identity to that of its new form.

Alordan listens patiently and remembers the gentlemen is a new comer to the Island, before suggesting "Or they could just be killer trees."

He moves on up the beach carefully and alert.

Andronichishche frowns slightly at Alordan's nonchalant, almost deadpan comment, not entirely sure if he wants him to clarify his remark or if ignorance is indeed bliss ...

What manner of jungle is it on the main island that killer trees are considered normal flora? Perhaps I should have studied more on dendrology but it's such a dry topic ... Tlachtga might know more, though. I'll ask her in private later, if we should survive this unusual island.

Sir Crestbrook the Mighty

The paladin continues to look towards the path that leads to the cave. Leaning the pole against a nearby rock he reaches token that once belonged to Cora and clutches it tightly in his hand.

Lerrick

As the cleric is ready to descend the tree to report to the group, she hears a noise that stops her in her tracks. She quickly assesses the situation

Saracen approaches the cave entrance carefully, and peers within, trying to listen for any signs of more recent occupation.

From her elevated position in the tree, Lerrick spots what she thinks might be a brown patch of something strange near the top of the ring of stones above the cave mouth when a large green tree snake uncoils the upper portion of its body to strike at the unsuspecting, oft climbing cleric. It’s white fangs nip her hand slightly, 1 dam but she can instantly feel it’s venom start to enter her bloodstream. (Save vs. Poison, please)

Sir Crestbrook and Saracen forge forward, past the linteled opening of the ring of stones and into the circle itself. The dead bodies of the first two minotaurs are no longer present, but the smell of dead, rotting meat lingers near the stained ground where they found chunks of meat earlier.

The cave mouth in front of them remains dark and quiet.

The paladin stands at the entrance with sword in hand ready to assist Gramble and Saracen if necessary. He also waits for the others to follow.

Lerrick

Ouch!...Oh dear...this isn't good. The cleric moves away from the snake, descending the tree quickly, even though the pain starts to increase. Once down she tries to suck the poison out of the wound, then spit it out.

Alordan will follow. He scans the area for tracks around the missing corpses. He'll replace the net in front of the cave if it's still there.
