Liam

Watches Bonnie apprehensively. Is she always like this? he ask to no one in particular.

Then as an aside, I hate to do anything that could be seen as an affront, but we may consider some kind of barrier from the shore to the trailhead, so future landings can funnel through it rather than risk a mixup with the townsfolk. As much to protect us from them. We could erect an elevated gangway to cross over it ourselves. At least that would be something...

Moonday, 8th of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon

As Nehru, Marge, and Glansandi continue to watch the proceedings, Liam continues to make suggestions to them.

The dwarven beach boss starts laughing in a gruff, unpleasant manner.

"First we gets a stern warning from a single foolish elf, then a welcome from a pompous longshanks, then another elf looking to do business? Strange little community ye gots ere."

"We got us plenty of dwarven spirits along, ale too, but it AINT fer sale I tells ya! Understand? Copper mining gives a dwarf a powerful thirst, ya know!"

While Bonnie discovers nothing else from the outside of the large crates, the next boat makes it safely to shore. The beach boss mentions something under his breath to those on board and the soldiers disembark to start moving in her direction.

Bonnie

Bonnie sighs. "That's unfortunate. I know of a few people that were interested in trying their luck in a drinking contest. A proper ale would have been perfect." She glances at the oncoming soldiers. "Still. Drop me a note if you're interested in making some extra coin. I'm Bonnie. Good prospecting! Take care now."

She turns and walks slowly back to the group, listening for the sound of dwarves in armor running on the sand.

Bonnie hears one last thing from the dwarf as she leaves.

"Bonnie eh? Drinking contest. Hmph!"

The dwarves take no interest in a chase through the sand, they instead join their companions heading towards the jungle trail as another full boat makes its way towards shore.

Bonnie

Half relieved that the dwarves didn't give chase, Bonnie makes it back to the group. "Ok then. I guess you heard that. Copper mine. I think I've heard rumors of such a thing on the island, can't remember from where. And get this. He refused to sell me any ale! I was going to even give him a fair price!" She shakes her head at the thought.

She turns to Glansandi. "You mentioned structures up the trail? Do you mean the talking stones? I'd like to see them. Not right now, of course. Now we should just stay out of the way."

"Liam. Somebody said you had cartography equipment with you. If you're looking for someone to help you scout the area, I'd be interested."

I do have cartography equipment... I only have a rudimentary idea how to properly use it mind you, but I believe we can make a quality map, all the same. Are you a scout by trade? Maybe an artist? I assume you mean to map the trail.

Bonnie

"Excellent! I am an artist and have scouted some before. Mainly urban locations, but it's similar. Right?" She smiles at Liam. "Would you join me on the trek? We'd hire some extra muscle for protection, of course."

"For right now, I'd like a word with Mr. Nehru about a shelter. Let's catch up this evening." She turns to Nehru. "Shall we go back to your office?"

Nehru

“I.....I.....suppose there isn’t much we can do about this dwarf situation at the moment but hope. Hope they don’t eventually want more than they say.”

The slender human thinks out loud to himself as you turn to leave the beach.

“I wonder if we could suggest charging a toll for using the trail?”

Liam

Looks reluctantly at the trail but sighs and nods. Yes.
I will set Joe in charge of the animals but I cannot leave until tomorrow. There are arrangements that need to be made, and if it is all the same to you, I would like to get a trip in with Jack to the river to replenishing the supply of water.

Since we have 3 groups all returning to town very soon, I think I will advance this thread along one full day so everything lines up timewise again.

Since it doesn't seem like much can be done about the invading dwarves anyway, I'm sure they wont mind.

If there is something specific that either of you want to do before we advance, let me know what it is and I will write it into the next post.

Thanks!

Bonnie

"No real hurry Liam. We can wait a day or two. Besides, some of the others will hopefully come back soon. They all can't be lost in the jungle for two weeks, right?"

I'm good with moving forward in time. Bonnie will spend the rest of the evening mingling and resting.

Liam with acknowledge this and move hear quickly to put Joe in charge of the animals since he seems to have a real affinity for them. He makes sure to let Marge, Caleb, and Raythan know about the plans. Marge is also informed he plans an early morning trip with Jack and the cart to the river to pick up a resupply of water before he heads out. He leaves his many letters not including more additions to all the recipiants about the invading force of Stone Gut Dwarves requesting immediate aid with details about what he can gather concerning their numbers both today and before, charging Raythan with getting them on the next friendly ship if it arrives while he is gone scouting with Bonnie. Once all arrangments are made, he will go ahead with the plan.

Godsday, 9th of Goodmonth
Early Afternoon

The dwarf ship continues to unload soldiers and crates of supplies the entire afternoon and into the evening on the 8th. There must be literally hundreds, maybe many hundreds of dwarves who have already made the trek up the trail, disappearing into the thick jungle. By nightfall, the action stops and the smaller boats are all rowed back to the huge ship anchored out at sea.

There is no trouble from the dwarves during the entire process. You can see lights and hear noises coming from the ship throughout the night, but there is no way to tell how many dwarves are still on board.

The night passes uneventfully around town and a nice hot sunny day begins anew. The new morning brings a few more trips into the jungle by the dwarves, but by the time Wes and Galanthas return with their little bundle of joy, that action seems to have concluded.

I have a few plans in the works from some characters, but anyone in town please feel free to do anything here that needs doing. Conversation about future endeavors can be held at your leisure and in whatever thread you find appropriate.

Wes

After returning to town with the rescued baby, Wes notices that there have been some alterations to his shrine to Obad Hai, the Shalm tree. He hurries over to investigate.

Wes finds his tree has been tampered with. The carving has been covered by a large towel or rag wrapped around its trunk, tied in place with twine. The flowers at its base have been removed as well.

He finds a folded piece of paper stuck under the twine.

It reads:

To whom it may concern.

Open worship of any deity is prohibited in Beachtown. Please cease and desist this practice immediately and remove this idol ASAP!

Wes

Wes reads the note, puffs out his cheeks and exhales. He frowns and glances in the direction of the Hi Lo. After a moment, he recalls that Mr Nehru was about the only inhabitant of the town who didn't show up for the return of the baby...Wes had wondered about that at the time.

For a moment, Wes thinks about going over to the Hi Li to see Mr Nehru, but then reconsiders. He can find me if he needs me.

Wes pulls out his dagger and cuts the twine, putting it in his beltpouch for future use. Then he turns and walks down to the sea, to clean off all his accumulated sweat, dirt and blood, and ready to dry himself with his new towel.

Wes

Upon finishing his ablutions, Wes heads over to the common houses to see if there are any sick people who need Obad Hai's aid. He also takes a turn by the vegetable gardens to see which one would most benefit from the use of Obad Hai's magic to increase the size of it's contents.

Then he goes to the Treehouse to get something to eat and drink.

Wes is greeted by the common folk as he approaches their side of town, some actually gather around him as he moves from place to place. He is led to one farmers wife with a bad case of jungle rot on her feet and legs, but he sees others with malaria type issues and less severe problems around as well.

He finds another food plot that would benefit greatly from his magic, right next to the now empty field he helped increase the yield of recently. As he looks through the farming experiments here, he is reminded that, despite the recent improvements, this area will never yield enough volume in this condition to keep these people alive.
