It appears there are 4 "elf-only" spells listed on the link, and it appears there are 4 of us. What do you all think of the idea of each one of us taking one of the spells and then "making it our own"? In other words, making the spell really unique and personal to each elf... something that we might not even share with other elves. Totally optional, but I just thought it would be cool to get all of those spells into the game somehow. If we did that, Lanny's first choice would still be "Birdsong / Birdcall", but "Guiding Light" might be a good choice for him as well. Thoughts?
Bregalad the elf
Bregalad had chosen
Birdsong/Birdcall shortly after Lanny, as it seemed to be a spell that would be more beneficial when multiple scouts could communicate to each other with it.
Elf Mark (Vyalia variant) would be appealing to Bregalad, as he could use it for the protection of his forest homeland. It would be a spell he used sparingly, if at all.

I like the idea. But Birdsong/Birdcall is a spell that doesn't make sense if used by only one elf. Elf Mark is a Vialya spell (description indicates that other elves have weaker versions of this spell) so it would fit only Bregalad. And Ymarien's Choir requires that the caster knows how to sing, which doesn't fit how I view Meagnor (can't tell about the others).
I would keep Meagnor with his "general spells" only until TK comes with more spells, if TK and you guys think it's a better idea. Of course we would have to wait until he's able to find more spells.
I don't know even if it's worth mentioning, but I have a list of elf-only spells I'm working for my own game. But they will be playtested for the first time only next week.

I'm actually not entirely sure how Birdsong/Birdcall is supposed to work though. Here is the spell description:
Birdsong/Birdcall (Elf)
Level: 1
Range: touch
Duration: 1d6+6 turns
Effect: translates target's voice into birdsong This spell causes the voice of the recipient to be translated into bird calls for the duration of the spell. All those under the spell effect, however, are able to understand each other as if they were speaking normally.
Bsed on the phrase "All those under the spell effect are able to understand each other...", it kind of sounds like one spellcaster can potentially touch multiple targets, who then would be able to speak and understand the birdcall/birdsong. TK, could you clarify this for us?
Btw, I could totally see Tratiln as a Ymarien's Choir singer... especially whenever he has some good elven wine in him.

Of course, we could bypass that one and go with the other three... or else just stick with what we have (which is ok with me too!)

It's ok to me too. Let's hear what tk thinks. Clarification on the Birdsong spell would be nice anyway.

No, the encounter takes place soon after entering the hills (in hex 18.19).

Yes, that seems to be the case, that the caster can touch multiple targets. Seeing as it is a spell I stole from the Pandius website, let us assume the caster can touch a maximum number of targets equal to his level. So a 1st level elf could affect two targets; himself and one other.
I would rather not be swtiching up spells this far into the game. I will note, that an elf village seems like a potentially good place to pick up some new elf spells.

Fair enough. And Birdsong will probably be a very useful wilderness spell in the future.

Page 125 states that while exploring a dungeon the party moves at three times their slowest movement rate per turn. So, if the slowest character has a move of 20' the party would move 60' every ten minutes. This assumes you guys are searching for traps, secret doors, etc. Unless you all tell me differently I am going to assume you will move at double this rate through areas you've already explored. This rate will still allow for normal surprise chances.

@TK: Regarding the marching order: Can Lanny fire arrows over Thordin's head? I don't mean when the dwarf is right about to engage in melee (that would be dangerous), but perhaps when the targets are still far away (but still within the range of his longbow)?

Sure. Polearms/spears can also be used over his head.

Bregalad the elf
Lanny, after you are able to fire your arrows, it might be worthwhile for Bregalad to take up a position behind Thordin, as he is proficient in the use of his spear.

Sorry I haven't posted in a bit. Apparently, as soon as the die rolls are added to a post, our software at work flags these posts as internet gambling and blocks me from accessing the thread.

It sounds like at this point there are two suggested plans for proceeding. One is to remove the bars across the hallway, then continue to explore the level you're currently on, while the second is to leave the bars where they are and explore the rest of the level you're currently on.

Meagnor thinks we should leave the bars from now, removing them only once we cleared the level and are ready do go further.

@Zebediah - When you get a second, could you edit your post on the House Rules page (the one referencing cantrips, orisons, and elf magic) and just remove that "dot" at the end of the line starting with "example of elf magic"? That dot is causing a broken link.
@Everyone - I consolidated several OOC posts regarding rules on spell learning/spell scribing and placed it as a single post under the House Rules section (for future reference). I hope this helps!

@Thirdkingdom: did Quinthos accept the further offering of the Scale Mail?
@sulldawga: do you want the mail for Selene, in case Quinthos won't accept it?
@TK again: in case nobody wants the mail, may we assume that Meagnor donated it to the Church? And about the "Displacer Beast" bow, I've marked it as magical, but you didn't detail it as such so I should have assumed that its non-magical, right?

Quinthos didn't want the mail. And the bow is non-magical.

@TK: Could you clarify one more thing about scribing spells: Am I understanding the rules correctly that it would take half the normal time to scribe a spell than it would to just study it from a spellbook without scribing it? If so, would it take only 4 hours to scribe a first level spell? I'm not sure about
Ventriloquism or
Rainbow Attack, but I believe Drudsa was scribing
Shield (using the inks and materials that Lanny gave him), so would 4 hours be enough for him to scribe/learn the
Shield spell? And does the learning happen automatically after the scribing is complete, or does one still have to roll for the chance to learn the spell (as with traditional study)? Thanks in advance!
