The 'Wind Speaker' feature for a Storm Sorcerer definitely gives you the Primordial languages; but I see that the Sage background gives you two languages of your choice (I see you added 'Draconic' and 'Deep Speech' as your choices).
Marullus wrote:I really like swapping it for the ability to breathe underwater (a great explanation for how he is a scholar of deep ones and the sea in the first place!) but it doesn't impact play here greatly.
I didn't read about the Sea Sorcerer and don't know how they manage or handle the ability to breathe underwater, but that definitely raises a red flag in my mind when it comes to game balance (which is one of the main reasons I completely ignore UA content).

There are other ways to gain the ability to breathe underwater (magic item, spell, etc...) and, especially for the adventure I have in mind, I think it's important that a character earn that ability and not just start with it.

Just an update.

I've been debating how to actually start this one for quite a while now, and have multiple different drafts started. Every time I convince myself that I know what I'm going to do I get second thoughts. I'm still not positive what I want to do?

I'm feeling a lot of pressure to get this one right. Or at least make sure I don't paint myself into a corner that I won't be able to work my way out of.

I will figure something out. Soon. I promise.

You're putting too much pressure on yourself. Look at it this way. Whatever you have planned, we're guaranteed to send it off the rails almost immediately. :D

Seriously, you've proven you're a good DM. Whatever you have is going to be great. If you want us to help come up with some of the details of the setting that relate to our backgrounds, I would be happy to help with that.

I was in the middle of typing the same thing. PCs will find their own adventure in an open world.

No doubt about this. It keeps getting worse the longer I delay.

Ha! Almost certainly. Especially with a party of six and all those potentially different ideas and suggestions.

I'll get it figured out. Ultimately, I'm going to just need to select an idea and stick with it. Then make the best of it.

Once it launches, though, it will be smooth sailing (pun intended). It's the launch, and setting everything up, that is always the most difficult for me.

I've been wrestling with the start for an hour now, and I'm determined to not go to bed until I get this thing kicked off. Once and for all.

I'm having serious doubts about how I'm building up the start to the game, and feel pretty confident I'm going to regret not jumping forward in time and starting later into the situation, but it is what it is.

Shoot. Now I'm rethinking it again. The later start is probably better.

I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this tonight -- but DEFINITELY by tomorrow.

Apparently I need to be careful with my use of the word "definitely." I did go to update the game at the end of my workday, but the site was temporarily down and I missed my window.

Then, I fell asleep super early last night... while watching TV. I was overdue on a good night's sleep, apparently. No, definitely.

I'm going to attempt to get some work in on this now, but with both kids awake (and acting crazy), I'm not sure how much luck I'll have. But, I promise you, the next post I make anywhere on these boards will be the update in this game.

It took a loooong time to put together, but I have updated the NPC section with two groups:
What sucks is, you may or may not interact with any/most of them... but, when you (finally) get to read the introductory post (which I'm working on), it will make sense why they're necessary.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share to potentially pique some interest, and also hopefully spark your curiosity and/or raise some questions. :D

All will be addressed soon.

This first post is going to be massive as there is a lot of background and setup to establish.

Apologies in advance.

Since it was an edit and not a new post, and wouldn't have triggered a notification, I just wanted to point out that the game is finally underway! See:

Also note, the first post is largely exposition. There's a second update which actually gives you something to respond to.

We are in the year 989 and the cataclysm was many centuries ago. Do we count our time since the cataclysm that sunk a continent (as year 0)? If not, what year did the continent sink?

What is generally known about the continent cataclysm?

What is known by Tharmyr, who is a scholar of what lies beneath the waves?

Still waiting on actions for Loran and Rocco.

---

Also, I'm thinking there is enough roleplaying from your weeks aboard the ship that I will most likely create a new, separate topic to resolve it.

This part:
dmw71 wrote:Lebrellye closes her right eye and brings the spyglass to her left. She peers toward the shore.

When she lowers the scope, she is clearly distressed but trying to hide her worry. She approaches the group, all congregating together, and motions toward the far side of the deck, away from where most of the other colonists are located.

“Can I have a word with the lot of you?” she leans in and whispers.
We will continue to resolve the following in the main 'Session 1: Ocean Pearl' topic.

On Loran's drop down line it says I have 5 spells memorized when it is only 4 but Detect Magic is also a Ritual so I can prepare all 6 of my known spells plus Cantrips. Two as Rituals and 4 as prepared spells.

Working on responds now.
