You can convert all coin up to platinum pieces at the Usurer for a 1% fee. A PP is worth 10gp, or worth 100sp. Also, gems are considered negligible weight. I'll put some of the cashed gemstones up for purchase through the Usurer at the Wooden Keep as well.
Prior to his 2nd relic journey, Markd purchases the blue-green turquoise for 75gp and sews it into his shirt for safety.

Earc Orctongue

Prior to holing up in the Golden Tooth Tavern for an extended period of time, Earc approaches the Usurer's office and inquires about a deed of one acre of land located north of the Ford on the Gaul river where the limestone rock outcropping is located. Having been there several times now, and its proximity to the river and the Ford makes it easy for Earc to easily describe and map the location.

"I don't want any claim to the river or use of the river, mind you, just the use of the land on and around the limestone rock, up to the river's edge, centered on the outcrop. I'd like to build a tower there. It seems a good way to begin expansion north. And maybe I can help the Ford patrols keep the riff-raff down in that area, as well. There were recent sightings of ogre and goblin activity thereabout and that's awfully close to the Ford..."

The gem is sold to Markd (removing from available gem inventory).

The Usurer takes down the appropriate documents regarding Earc's request. "The deed shall be established. I'll have your new construction assayed to determine your annual taxes. If you will pursue any revenue generation, I'll need to be apprised as well." He marks down "Earc's Tower" on his map at the appropriate location, unless you correct him.

Earc shakes his head at the script and says, "No, no... let's call it 'Toll's Tower', if you don't mind. That's T - O - L - L" He spells it out to make sure it isn't transcribed improperly.

After a moment of thought he adds, "I don't have any immediate plans for revenue generation; just a place to study that provides me some peace and quiet. But I'll let you know if that changes. Thank you."

Akkara reports that she has developed a firm grasp of the Morlock's language. She is then recruited by Earc to join the expedition.

Just take 1% of each type of coin for the easiest way...

4gp, 2sp, and 2cp with rounding up.

But you can't really convert all of that to Platinum. You basically have 420gp with 50cp remaining, which means you'd have 84pp 50cp and you'd have to pay a fee of 4gp and 2sp.

If that's the total of your coinage, then you'd have to not convert 5 of the gp into a pp. so you'd have 83pp, 5gp, and 50cp and you'd have to pay 4gp and 2sp (ish) for fees. That would leave you with:
83pp, 1gp, and 30cp.

Oh dear. Al's explanation makes me think that I have been paying 10% on my transactions. :(

Wait - 84 pp from 420 gp? Is there a house rule on pp value? BtB (LL Basic p. 10), 1 pp = 10 gp.

Thank you for the conversion. That should cut down on the weight.

Oh dang it. Sorry. No, I don't think so. I was using a house rule from a game on another forum I'm in where 1pp=5gp.

Hold on, I'll recalculate.

419gp, 5sp=
41pp, 9gp, 5sp with a conversion fee of 4gp and 2sp
Your coin remaining would be: 41pp, 5gp, and 3sp

The Archduke smiles warmly at Foxy. Sir Albrecht just frowns dourly. "It is good to see you recovered, Ms. O'Hare. Your stubborn refusal to reach the afterlife must remain a perpetual disappointment to the followers of Gwanwen."

As Foxy stands and requests payment of 2,000 gold pieces, the Archduke looks a bit surprised. "Herald... what were the terms of payment posted in the square?" The Herald loudly orates the public posting: "Reward offered for any willing to face the Dragon in its lair, leading to the dragon's death or to the cessation of its threats against the city and our fair populace." The Archduke nods, thoughtfully.

"Which of these two goals did you achieve, then, Ms. O'Hare?" Sir Albrecht asks.
