The golden disc might fit through the hole, but it doesn't seem to be a close match.

Abrex says, "Did we put the pieces together that we found in the Vat room? Maybe looks different together?" Here let's put them together as he request the pieces so he can try and puzzle them together. If they fit together he has Dredd look them over.

ChubbyPixie wrote:"Ahem. My eyes are up here, Elsa." Eduardo says.
"And what a pair of big eyes you have," responds Elsa the Fair.

The half-orc sword mistress pulls back 15' from the door and its hole. She half-expects gas to shoot out, or a pit, or a collapsed ceiling, or some other dire trick of the lich.

Abrex takes both pieces from the laboratory and brings them together. With a "click," they fuse into a gold key.

Xale smiles upon seeing the magical key come together as it reminds him of his own Deity; Dalt; whose symbol was that of a locked door and key.

"Well then; let's try to find the door that enchanted key must surely be designed to open."

"Och!" exclaimed the dwarf. "Tis the keyhole right here, brother," Dredd said, pointing a fat stubby finger at the hole in the wall behind the door.

Dredd pushed his brass googles down over his beady eyes, raised a light, and spied the keyhole for traps before they tried the golden key.
Detect traps, please. Thanks.

Dredd tries the key in the hole in the wall. Nothing happens. The hole does not appear to be a keyhole, as far as you can tell.

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"Or not," Dredd grumbled.
Then he said, "Use yer magic* to pass through the hole, or turn back and try another door?"

*Magic options:
Abrex has Polymorph Self spell.
Abrex and Worren have Passwall spells.
Elsa has Polymorph potion.
Thoughts?

"Let's try another door. Perhaps the one to the east?" suggests Zoster.

"Aye, east," affirms Elsa.

Worren nods at Zoster's suggestion. "Though I have magic that would allow us to bypass these barriers, without knowing just where we should go it would simply be a wild attempt. I would prefer to wait till we have no other option or we know where we need to be."

Abrex helps out as needed. He nods as the move to check the east door.

You move to the east door, stepping carefully around the corner of the pit in the intersection as you do. Xale's spell reveals no traps on this door.

BTW, Zoster has checked the south passage, but I don't believe Xale has looked for traps in that direction yet.

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

"The sooner we use yer magick to break the rules, the sooner we'll stop playing his bloody game, lads," Dredd grumbled as he returned his goggles to their perch on his bald forehead and slowly plodded down the east hall, looking for traps there with terrible deliberateness and scrutiny; floor, walls, ceiling, and finally the door at the end. As he searched, he kept on grumbling.

"We need to leave his chessboard. He's got it all perfectly rigged to kill us. Take it from me, lads. I know. The longer we play his way, the more of us will die. We need to do something he didn't anticipate, something he didn't plan for. We need to stop being rats running his damned, bloody maze."
I'm serious! If you read the X-Men during the Byrne/Austin era, when they're caught in Arcade's trap-filled labyrinth, the way out is to stop playing along and start carving their way into the walls and floors. :)
When I'm referencing Chris Claremont you know I'm serious! ;)

Eduardo hikes up his loincloth, which ironically keeps riding down, and raises one hand. Yes, I agree, sir. But could we agree to a ten second warning before anyone fires one off? ;)

OOC - Wouldn't we need to know the existing tunnel layout to use pass-wall without risk at least to use it to get us to a point where we can bypass most of the traps and finish this quest? I'm all for thinking outside the box but we need information. Does anyone in the group have a map of the lair? Does anyone have a plan to kill this thing once we find it?
Abrex says,"I can cast a spell to get us passed some walls and I can change my form with a spell as well. If I cast the pass wall spell we must know a safe end point or we could end up in solid rock or in lava/water. While I can change for it won't allow you to pass where I go unless I find a mechanism that's not trapped I can use to open things up so you can. Let me examine where we have been and see if there might be a clue to how this lair may be set up. I'll follow along as I try and retrace my steps mentally.

Xale will take the opportunity to check in all directions and up and down as well, to search for any more traps while his spell remains in effect....

Passwall opens a tunnel 5' wide, 8' high and 10' long. If there is no chamber, tunnel, whatever at the end of that 10', then you just have a dead-end that lasts 6 + spellcaster levels rounds. If Worren casts the spell as well after yours, then we will have a 20' long tunnel and will have to hope there is something to connect to within that 20'.

Xale spots one more trap, in the door at the end of the south hallway.

Anything in the east hall or door? Thanks.
